Just watched Eroica on BBC4.
Absolutely brilliant - a drama reconstruction of the very first rehearsal of Beethoven's 3rd symphony. It does for Beethoven what 'Amadeus' did for Mozart.
It has been a while & it has to be done - again :eyebrows: Star Trek on BD, this is superb...

just finished "Larry Crowne" from blu ray, not a brilliant film but very enjoyable
Just finished City of Life and Death.
I did this in two goes as frankly this film is grim in the extreme and I had to do it in stages. I thought Schindler's List was about as bad as this sort of thing gets, but no, City of Life and Death depicts what I have heard called the 'Rape of Nanking' and to say it is awful is not doing justice to what the Japanese did to the Chinese in that city.
There is no relief in this movie, a few glimmers of humanity is swamped and crushed by the total inhumanity and brutality depicted. Worth watching but hard going. I won't be watching it again.

One of my favourite films of all time :eyebrows: Donald Sutherland & Jane Fonda in Steelyard Blues. Just got the French DVD today cheap, English language & subtitles turned off I'm loving it....
Mono sound, but I haven't seen this film in so many years I just don't care :eyebrows:

Well, I'm just sitting down to watch Toy Story 3 :eek:
I was frankly taken aback at the picture quality of this DVD. I just wasn't expecting a 1972 film & as far as I know not a blockbuster to be so damn good :scratch: As it was a French DVD I had to set it to an English language - which turned out to be Australian :eyebrows: Subtitles set to off & I had the time of my life! I have to say, I really enjoyed it. The folks at work warned me it was darker than the other two, but for me it made the film. Very entertaining indeed. Tonight it's a little different as I am just about to roll 'The Sands of Iwo Jima'

Have any of you guys seen the Tourist with Angelina Jolie and Jonny Depp. Dom and I watched it last night, thought it would be rubbish, but it quite good really. You only ever see Jonny Depp in films by Tim Burton, but this is a little different for him?

Funnily enough, I did watch The Tourist last night. I thought the visuals were breathtaking and Jolie looked suitably alluring, but really what a waste of two fine actors? Why the 'knowing looks' and dreamy feeling all through the film? The story did not convince and made no sense at all and, after investing in the tourist's innocence, the ending was frankly utterly daft writing. A terrible waste of resources.Quote:

Basically a fan project including original cast members and pretty good acting (from the new ones) and special effects. What we have here is the second series of original Star Trek which was to be called Phase 2. These folks have taken the stories and made them. On average one a year.
I have watched a couple of the stories and enjoyed them a lot.
Here is the link to the first one Episode One "In Harms Way" in which the Guardian of Forever makes an appearance also, Captain Pike (including the original Enterprise), the Doomsday Device, The Kirk period Enterprise and the Enterprise A. Its a 60 minute story and very good considering the source.

Unstoppable. A very superior action film directed by Tony Scott, who is getting closer to his brother all the time. Most enjoyable apart from the slightly silly train-almost-coming-off-the-rails sequence.

watched the Abba definitive collection dvd last night, i'd forgotten just how gross some of the 70's clothing looked like, even though i was forced to wear some at the time. But the girls looked gorgeous ;)
Had the misfortune to watch the 2010 sci-fi film 'Knowing' last night. What a stinker - I should really have known as it stars Nicholas Cage - with a few exceptions he is the man they call when the A listers have turned down the script because it sucks. Don't waste 2 hours of your life on this one folks, pre-warned is pre-armed :)
