I didn't know coffee beans needed a settling down period. Shows what I know. Can you not buy beans that have been pre-settled at the factory?

you can; they are called supermarket shite:eyebrows: you dont 'have' to but its advisable to help dissipate the co2 that comes out after roasting. fresh roasted can be used but its better to give them a few days. i usually do a week. you can see the build up in bag as it inflates a bit, even with a valve on bag. after a week or so they will steady up. still be super fresh too.
a kilo is about £30 or so delivered;; that does about 40+ coffees

No point wasting a perfectly good tea bag. On the other hand you've just binned a 5p carrier bag. Stewed tea is ok up to a point, but don't be making my brew the night before, I'll call you ten minutes before I land, to put t'kettle on :)

Nope it was from the era when they were free. My stash of carrier bags dates back to the late 1990s.

Plus I get a free supply delivered by those 'charity' people who give you a bag to put old clothes in which they then never come back to collect. I don't get enough of those to cover my total use but it does slow down the depletion of my vintage stockpile.

Why don't the coffee makers add some margin by offering a settling in service, same as cable manufacturers burning them in for you for a fee?

since someone discovered about twenty years ago now that people will pay a fiver for a paper cup of not very good coffee I don't think there's been much pressure on them to deliver even more profits.

Works out quite pricey, but still way cheaper than Costa et al. I look forward to enjoying one of your posh coffees one day :)

Not exactly arduous taking your newly arrived coffee and letting it sit for a few days. You don't have to of course and many dont

used the self service thing in the supermarket today.

Just no option, was in a hurry, only two tills open and both with long queues. Profiling of the queuing punters suggested that I'd be in for about a 20 minute wait regardless of which line I joined.

Self service and I was done in sixty seconds. I feel dirty but needs must.
