Umm! That's much more to my taste. :)

51 minutes past 20 o'clock?
It’s clearly 39 minutes to 55 o’clock.

That's better.
A few questions:
What are the differences between "Quartz" and "automatic" watches? Or are they the same thing? Why do some watches call themselves "chronometer"? Any makes/models/sellers that need to be avoided, especially if buying secondhand? Thinking along the lines of something like this:
https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/...83/item/304209
Basically quartz = battery operated, automatic = mechanical and wound via a rotor whilst being worn.
A chronometer should have certified accuracy.
If buying second hand look for reviews / feedback about the seller to establish if they're 'trusted'.
Nice Omega but I'd expect box and papers and I don't know how big your wrist is but the De Ville is quite a small watch at 37mm.
As far as makes are concerned you really get what you pay for, look on youtube at some of the watch channels - for affordable watches in particular check out 'Just one more watch' for a bit of inspiration. Avoid fashion brands like Armani, Michael Korrs etc.
A lot of people frown at Invictas but for £70 odd quid you can get a decent diver's watch with a Seiko movement.
If 37mm is "quite a small watch", then what does that make my Rolex at 34.5mm?
Size isn't everything. ;)
I do have quite large wrists and my hands are like shovels, so I could get away with a large watch, but I'm not too keen on diver's watches. They just have too much of everything for my tastes, I prefer simple.
I like this one a lot, but really I'm some way off affording one. I'll check out some of your less costly options, like the Invictas.

Have a look at the Seiko Presage range Steve, looks like your looking for something smart rather than a tool Watch like a diver.

Cheers Roy - I've just been checking out these 'Presage' models, and some I really like. I was quite surprised at the prices asked, it puts them into "Christmas pressie from Anita" category, which will keep my hifi/music budget free :D
I might be pestering you for guidance nearer the time, hope you don't mind - as you may remember, my last watch (3 years ago) was a Mickey Mouse watch, which couldn't accommodate a strap large enough for me, and is now lying around waiting for one of the grandkids to grow into it
You're welcome Steve.
Also have a look on Ali Express at San Martin and Pagani watches, like Invicta they use a Seiko movement in most of their automatics and some of the designs are quite smart.
Wot? No watches??

£735,000, and it's not even new  I suppose it could be handy for anyone who ever worried about not having a level wrist, though personally if I'd got one in a Christmas cracker it would end up in the drawer with all the spare batteries, dried up felt pens and and lighters that ran out of gas.
RMs are ridiculously overpriced for what they are. They’re confirmation that the wearer has more money than sense.

Yeah I could live with something like this, though I'd still prefer a full size second sweep.

No idea, bezel rotates though.
Seiko today.

Quite like that one Roy.
Regarding yesterday's watch, if the bezel can rotate I wondered if the extra 'minute' divisions could duplicate as a 'seconds' countdown.
Possibly?
Something more conventional today

Getting there, but the bracelet is totally out of place - it needs a nice black leather strap.
Going to see Deadpool film later so
