looks an interesting item. No idea about being a bargain and the cleaning parts look like they would need replacing but it looks interesting to me
SD Acoustics open baffle...nice condition and good price too...collection Dumfries..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/sd-acousti...kAAOSwuAVWxIcm
look nice.. not silly far away.
Specially when I'm working in Ayr..
Why have "Item location: walsall, West Midlands, United Kingdom", then must be collected in Dumfries? Which is it to be and why?
It never ceases to amaze me how misleading/uninformative some ads are on ebay, and how some folk don't seem to give a shit!
Marco.
Marco - They are being advertised by Glass-Audio (Commercial) who are based in the Midlands.
Item location is produced automatically from their registered address, regardless of the collection address.
At least it used to work that way, I don't think ebay have changed things. ;)
Poor Tannoys - Drivers look OK but look at the cabs...

Thanks, Ken. I didn't even see the Glass Audio bit. I was just looking at the description. I still don't get the Dumfries connection, though!
Why aren't they being collected from where the company are based, i.e. the Midlands? There is no explanation for why that is so, which I can see....
Marco.
they were rather nice looking. Fortunately I was just far enough away :D
wouldnt be srprised if Ali has grabbed them
Might be of interest to someone... I had a pair of Acousta's with Lowther drivers and they were just lovely..

Well maybe less ... they have stuck at £2,500 for a while now... so maybe my £4,500 estimate won't be too far out... do I win a prize for being the nearest ?
The serious bidders will come in at the end... At the moment, they'll be holding back, not wanting to put the price up any more by starting a bidding war. I think £4.5k will be about right.
Yesh, your prize will be a nice big cucumber! :D
Marco.
The boxes that come with these are contemporary...and more use.

Tannoy Cheviots in Leeds. Need a tidy and cone surrounds, but look solid enough and worth grabbing at £500.

Totally stuffed Tannoy tweeters. Stated as being "in good shape"! What rubbish. In every way.

Could we be heading for a record price here. A boxed original Goldring Lenco GL75. This ends in an hour and is bid up to £190 so far. It will no doubt go higher!

Grant's unzipping his now, in preparation for its evening 'airing'.... :eyebrows:
Anyway, £4100.00... You weren't far off! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tannoy-Red...torefresh=true
Would be interesting to know what the lucky buyer's intentions are with them :)
Marco.
It's just collector nonsense. Golds are superior to any Reds - early or late - that I've heard, whether in modern or period cabinets. They also improved the crossover. It's an interesting phenomenon but it's got nothing to do with getting a better sound.
Also, the seller has had some questionable moments, I contacted him some years back about attempting to flog a pair of HPDs as as Gold, he basically told me to naff off and blocked me from his listings. Seems to be more established now so has perhaps learned to behave himself but I'd still be cautious.
Having owned 15" Reds and Golds, and used them in the same Lockwood cabinets, I know where you're coming from, Tom - and of course there's a reason why I swapped the original Reds for Golds....
The Reds are more one-trick ponies, *but* what they do well (midrange lucidity) is stunning, and significantly better in that area than Golds, which in turn are significantly better in the bass. It's pretty much horses for courses, including the amps you use with them, in order to get them to sing, and most importantly the music you're into.
Ultimately, for me, as I'm into such a wide and varied amount of music, Golds were the more versatile :)
Marco.
kinda tempted by this.. and its only an hour down the road for me.

Has anybody got any experience, and are there any known problems to be cautious about.
I'm seriously looking for a good Japanese turntable/arm with a detachable SME type head shell for about this sort of price or cheaper
This might be of interest to the Bowie fans. He could of made an effort with the listing title though :mental:

Nice mc cart.... AT made them i think
Decca International arm. Boxed, unused, £180!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Decca-Inte.../322016168804?
I bought one of these recently from a US seller and it is a superb cartridge. The seller of the above item was also selling an MC-1S (which is the normal half inch mount variant; the MC-1x plugs straight into an SME headshell mount) but it was gone within an hour or so of listing and I was too slow! :(
I note that the Lockwood Majors (with Tannoy Reds in) went for £5101.90: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tannoy-Loc...c=1&rmvSB=true
Good price, and still a bargain, considering the performance that these speakers are capable of! :)
Marco.
Could be decent kit in these valves local bournemouth area
