View Full Version : Beatles Mono box set - Real ?
Hi All,
Just wanted to know if people think i have a "real" copy of the Beatles Mono boxset. I bought it from Amazon.com direct about 6 months ago. The art look ok, CD's came in a fitted plastic cover as well as paper sleeves. Thing like the MMT book is attached to the sleeve. Also ripped the CD's with DBpoweramp and came up with Accurate (200). I've heard of fake boxes around from places like ebay.

There are a lot of fake ones about.........
Do the centres of the discs look like CD-R's or commercial CD's?
What's the glue like on the wraparound tabs of the sleeves?
If you bought from Amazon it should be OK..there are a slew of boxes on the bay which are dodgy..

Have all of the box sets been manufactured in one country, or have they been produced in each of the market territories ?
Pinning down a kosher set is made more difficult if it's the latter.
I haven't had the pleasure of seeing either of the box sets - I bought mine ad-hoc as single CDs, mainly from my local Tesco as it happens.
So mine are all stereo, as the mono stuff has not been released in such a manner.

As far as I know, most of the fakes are purporting to be genuine releases from the Far East. I had a dodgy set very briefly. If it's cheap, it's almost certainly a fake, but if it's full price, it still could be!
Mine had very convincing sleeves & other printed material, in every way except for the fact that the glue was giving on the wraparound tabs on some of them. As I intimated above, the centre rims of each disc were the giveaway, though.

Ah, so John's (sparrow) comment about buying from Amazon is very salient then.
I must admit, I hadn't heard about the market being awash with pirated sets, but to hear that it is does not surprise me:(

I paid a lot of lolly for mine (almost full price) & the guy who sold it to me got it straight back pronto & I made him pay my postage & Paypal costs on top of the refund.
I had a look at a couple of disc's, they look ok. Amazon.co.uk should be a safe place to buy one ? I paid full price for it. Artwork seems to look ok as well, the plastic covers for the discs don't seem to bit cheap and rip easily like reported.
Found a link of pictures of the fake and real. Its really hard to tell. I'm a bit worried now, mine seems to look ok though.

I looked at them last night. Surely if i bought direct form Amazon.co.uk for £170 odd pound i should be ok ?

And ?
How do the discs you have stack up ?

If it was from Amazon directly then the chances are you've got the real deal.
What's cost got to do with it ?
The reason why these counterfeits have been made is because of the high asking price for the real thing.
How do you mean, "how do my disc's stack up" ?

How do they compare to the proper ones in the Youtube videos ?
The label print on the top of the disc ? Checked a couple and seemed ok. Will have a look again.
I e-mailed Amazon.co.uk direct and asked them about counterfeit mono box. They informed! All items bought directly from amazon.co.uk are brand new. Only third party sellers can list used and pre-owned items".
so i should be fairly certain i have a legit copy of the mono box set ?

Do they play all right? If yes, who cares if they're genuine or fake?
They sound great on my Sneaky DS ! I'm pretty sure its the real deal. I did pay £180 from amazon for it so i do care a far bit :)

Um, with respect, that's a bit of a dopey thing to say! I think I'll just assume your yanking our chain again, Alex...! ;)
I've checked my disc's and they look real and not CDR's. Art work looks good, MMT book attached to the album. Comparing to the video's that were attached.
