I was so impressed by the TB W4-657D 4" full range driver in a double bass reflex enclosure that I've put together a complete kit, the DBR-100

Hi Steve,
You'll need to open a trade account to post in this area of the forum. What's your company/business called? :)
Marco.

Ah  I don't have a company or a business as such, I'm just a keen DIYer that's put together a kit. The success or not of these kits will determine if it's worthwhile for me to set up a business with a trading name.
Chicken and egg situation really.
Lol - well, you're selling stuff, so that makes you trade :)
For the time being I'll just put you down as 'Steve's Stuff'
What was your old dealership called?
Marco.

Thanks Marco
"Steve's Stuff" sounds good! :lolsign: Anyway, I've been thinking about this and reckon "Ashgate Audio" is a strong contender :)
Cheers,
Steve
Go for it, mate - so what was the name of your old dealership? :)

Marco.
Started off as a sole trader trading as 'Omicron Electronics', sometimes known as 'Oh my god electronics'! That was 1968.
When the business expanded I formed a limited company and changed the name to 'Micron Audio Ltd'. You'll find more on my site.
Cheers,
Steve
Cheers, I've just had a look. What lovely old 'proper' hi-fi shops you had! :respect:
I bet you must've seen/used some amazing (now vintage) gear in your time :)
Love the pics from the old shows! Unfortunately, the golden age of hi-fi has long since gone....

Best of luck with the business Steve! BTW, that seems like a good price for the kit considering all the wood work and design time at your end. Nice one! :)
I'm really tempted to try some simple full range single driver speakers like this but my wife would kill me if I bought more speakers. I need a bigger house first.

Do you think? Ashgate Audio has certain ring to it and sounds a bit more 'professional' ;)

Thanks for your good wishes :) Finding someone to machine the cabinets at a reasonable price for a small run gave me quite a headache I can tell you!
I'm in the same boat with 'she who knows best' regarding a house full of speakers but she's quite tolerant and supportive of the DBR-100. She actually prefers them sound-wise to some of my more elaborate efforts. WAF is high ;)

+1 for Ashgate Audio - sounds much more businesslike.

I'm now offering my kit with a driverless option so that the buyer can use drivers of their own choosing.
Price: £175 + £13.75 delivery.
Also I've adjusted the price of the full kit: £249 + £16.95 delivery.
Unfortunately the MDF is too heavy to export as the shipping charges are horrendous :(
Cheers,
Steve

I agree Ashgate Audio sounds far better.
Nice looking speaker, i fancy doing a little speaker project in the future and this would be perfect. Good luck with the business.

If anyone is interested in the CNC machined cabinets without the drivers and hardware I can do them for £140 per pair plus £9 delivery.
Cheers,
Steve
Very nice website, Steve, what a good read! I liked your IPL speaker article, I still have a set of S5TLs with the cabinets made and veneeered by my father and the rest built by me. They did and still do sound very good.
What a throwback those show photos are with stacks of speakers everywhere :)

Hi Hamish, sorry for late reply, e-mail notification doesn't appear to be working :(
At some point I might offer a small bookshelf kit but don't hold your breath! I really need to sell some DBR-100's first.
The only complete small speaker kit I've seen is the LS3/5A from Falcon Acoustics.
http://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/ls3-5a/ls3-5a-cabinet-kit.html
You can buy the cabinet kit on its own and modify the baffle for a single full range driver. A 4" TB or similar will probably fit in the existing hole for a B110 and the tweeter hole blocked off.
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Steve

Well I've finally mastered ARTA, well sort of anyway, and by popular request I've done some FR plots of the DBR-100.

Due to testing limitations, response below 200Hz is not an actual representation. The scaling is 5dB per division and shows that the speaker is reasonably flat from 200 - 20000Hz, possibly within 3dB. Below 200Hz I can only go by what my ears tell me. Bass is not lacking.
Cheers,
Steve
Steve's stuff is a great name. Steve, really enjoyed looking through your website, great pictures and enjoyable stories. Your an old don of hifi!
