Ah I see... This is where you and I are different, especially in terms of where we derive our giggles: you = The Simpsons and old Carry On films (lol), me = Little Britain and The League of Gentlemen [plus other non-PC/'alternative' stuff of that ilk].

I liked the league... got all the dvds etc... Young ones, little britain were more my sons domain. Older Simpsons were very clever, and worked on several levels; the newer ones are utter tosh. Carry ons are, well an institution as were St Trinnians etc. was a time when it was just good fun as opposed to outright rudeness I guess.

Yup, I think you've hit the nail on the head there. It's probably the age gap between us reflecting our different tastes, in that respect. I suspect it will also apply to films:)

I never 'got' The Simpsons, simply because, aside from Cheers, I've never really got on with American humour, and I can't stand (or get passed) the child-like 'cartoon character' aspect , and that affected 'yanky drawl' that they speak with, regardless of how clever the dialogue is/was.
Just fundamentally NOT my thing!
And as for Dad's Army, Carry On films and such like, they were just a bit too 'British' (read as English) for me. My parents weren't into them at all, so they were rarely on the TV when I was growing up, and since then nothing has made me inclined to investigate them further...

Lol... It was more for the performances of Adrian Edmonson, whom I think is a comic genius, although I thought that the two of them played off each other well in that series.
Ah, Blackadder, another rather overrated 'British classic' that I can only take in small doses, largely because of the brilliant Rowan Atkinson! 'Queeny', on occasions, was also a giggle. But after you'd seen a few episodes, it was all rather 'samey'.

I acknowledge that TC is considered as one of our comedy 'greats' (and rightly so), but you're correct, his wasn't really my style of humour.
A bit too traditional and old-fashioned. Dave was the man, or Spike Milligan. I prefer 'edgier', satirical comedy. In that respect, I'm also a big fan of Alexei Sayle... His series called 'Stuff", from the late 80s/early 90s was great:)

Glitch Season Three (Netflix)
Sadly the final season of this interesting and clever Australian sci fi thriller TV show. Season three, so far, is uping the anti to make the events that happened in backwoods Australia cosmic in scale, with those events threatening the entire Universe. The mysterious ones (my name for them) are increasingly taking on an almost Sapphire and Steel typed role within the story, to correct things.

Typical Hollywood schlock horror - unsubtle, predictable and tedious. If you want horror that leaves much to the imagination (and because of that, is far more creepy and disturbing) check out Japanese horror films. Now they know how to do horror.
Lol... Yup, I was just pulling Grant's leg and also playing on the 'of the dead' zombie theme. Actually, in terms of Day of the Dead, I much prefer the original from 1985.
However, totally agree on the Japanese stuff, but unfortunately am rather put off with subtitles. Italian horror films can also be pretty good. Dario Argento, for example, was for me a master of the macabre/supernatural thriller, and which joking aside I'm much more into than outright horror.
I rather enjoyed his 'Suspiria', from 1977, among many others, which was very creepy:

Don't know anything about the latter, Barry, but sounds intriguing. I've heard of Giallo, but haven't explored it much. I just like anything that's rather 'dark'. And when it comes to comedy, I much prefer the black variety, than the 'happy-clappy', overtly cheery, family-friendly stuff. I just don't find that in any way entertaining.
The worst though are those mind-numbing, vacuous 'rom-coms'. I utterly detest them!!:doh:

Just started watching this about Carlos Monzon on Netflix.
He was an Argentinian world champion boxer in the 60s who's wife was found dead on the patio under a first floor balcony at their home.

Has anyone been watching the BBC WW2 drama "World on Fire"? We have, it's brilliant, well worth a watch on catch up if you've missed it. (Although it's not finished yet, so you'll have to wait to watch the last episodes, or wait a few more weeks and binge watch the box set!)
Talking of binge watching, we did that with "The Capture" - really loved it but wasn't happy with the ending... But would still recommend.

The shadow filming is great, and considering its about 90 years old it's still good, but be prepared to watch it numerous timesMy favourite of that time is the Black Cat (the 30s Karloff/Lugosi film not the silly film made about 10 years later about some people trapped in a haunted house or something). In my opinion it's the best horror film of that time, although Nosferatu and Freaks are on a par and possibly technically more impressive.

It's fast, funny, tragic, sharp, and surreal. Having revised my opinion, I'd rate it 8/10.

Bit of a curate's egg - part fictionalised documentary, part thriller, and part love story with a sadly ludicrous "39 Steps" ending. I enjoyed it, but if you are looking for a history of the wartime breaking of the Enigma code - look elsewhere. That said, the period detail (apart from the railway footage) is well researched and correct, and the incidental music by John Barry is a plus. 6/10

Best seen on the wide screen, this film is more about the singular, bluff and not very pleasant character of J. M. Turner, than it is about his paintings. Beautifully played by Timothy Spall and directed by the excellent Mike Leigh, this film is well worth watching. 8/10

That's something easily missed with Tarantino until you get how he ticks. It's even more prevalent in Kill Bill - he likens a lot of his work as fairy stories and has said people regularly take them far too seriously. I had to check myself during the final 'gory' scenes of his last film, when I realised I was laughing and everyone else was going 'errrrr'. They missed the point entirely.
His dialogue in PF though, it's priceless and possibly his best work and without doubt the pinnacle of many of the actors careers. Christopher Walkens 'gold watch' speech is a masterpiece.
It's a classic.

Interesting that the 4 actors did their own stunts, and were uninsured. Film was made for 2mil dollars and made a very tidy profit.
