New month starts and it is dull, dry and warm here.
High of 21C predicted. Currently 23.4C in my living room, I find that a comfortable temperature unless I do anything strenuous, which I don't plan on.

A sunny 16c after a very wet night
31c and sunny. In the office today with aircon but was a bit warm when I walked to Asda at lunchtime in my three piece suit!
Dramatic change expected tomorrow dropping to 20c and rain/thunderstorms.
32C at the moment. Hot, dry and sticky; fortunately I don't have to do anything except eat, drink and take showers.
In fact it's too hot to do anything. Too hot to do any gardening; too hot to do housework; too hot to read, watch telly or play music. It's even too hot to make love!
If this is what summers are going to be like in the future, I don't think I'll be able to cope with them. :(

Looks like air con at home is the future. Won't help with the gardening, but will with the important stuff (reading, watching telly, playing music). Not sure about the making love bit, my memory doesn't go that far back :doh:
I have considered a 'portable' air con unit (they start at about £300), but at the moment it's cooler oop north, and I've just spent a shockingly large amount (for us) on a holiday.

Yes, I was thinking a portable air con unit would be a good idea. We already use an electric fan in the bedroom, but that is a bit noisy to leave on all night.
Things could be worse - I could be using my Mark Levinson ML-2 power amps. Only 25W per channel, but being purely class A they are inefficient (theoretically 50%, but the ML-2s are more like 25%), and what power that is not used to drive the speakers, is dissipated as heat.
Feels like real thunderstorm weather here - warm, hardly a breeze, heavily overcast - but there's none forecast. Not even any rain.
Birmingham and Manchester look like they will get some rain overnight but nothing here in the middle.

Raining here now, started as I was halfway through cutting the grass. So half of the lawn was a bit hurried, and looks it. If you can imagine what your hair would look like after clipping it yourself with one of these:

A cooler 12c and cloudy
Dull again, think we had a bit of rain overnight but not much.
Supposed to be sunny later but max of 18C and high winds.
Complete change from yesterday. Started at 17C and forecast to reach 23C early evening.
It rained a little last night and rained again this morning at 06:00. Chance of showers all day until about 16:00.
It is currently 29C here today.
We have lost 10C overnight.
Absolutely splendid.
Yes, it was definitely a case of "what a difference a day makes" 31c yesterday but barely hit the 20s today, with rain on and off, but was quite sunny this evening. I've been sitting outside in t-shirt and shorts until around 23:30 the last week or so, not now! Tomorrow a little warmer/drier and then Friday is looking like sunshine again and 25c - then unsettled again for a week or so before the next heatwave by the look of it.
I must admit, I've not been bothered by the heat at all these recent few days when normally I can't stand it above about 21c, not sure why really, but a bit sad it was "chilly" today!
15C with a clear blue sky. Expected to reach 24C around 17:00, when it will become overcast. No rain expected.
A cool 22C at 6:00 this morning.

About the same here, predicted to be cooler and cloudier tomorrow, with rain possible on Sunday. Always typical that the nice days are work days.
Still sunny and warm here but rain due at tea time and continues all evening. Temperature down to 14C by 2200.
95% chance of rain so looks like that will happen this time.
Temperatures don't pick up again until Wednesday.
Still 22C in my living room, hopefully there's enough residual heat in the building to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature during the next 4 days.

19C at the moment and overcast. Expected to reach 22C later in the day, with a possibility of rain around lunchtime.
We had a few hours of drizzle yesterday evening but not really proper rain.
Today is dull and set to continue like that, tomorrow's forecast is rain all day.

Woke up wondering what the noise was. Turns out to be heavy rain. Still going now.

Been raining all night and still is. Not heavy, but it is relentless.
Update: sun's out! Still raining though.
Brightened up a bit here but no sun. I think it still is raining, or it's started again.
Need to go round to the Sainsbury so might give it half an hour as it looks like it's slowly clearing.
Suns out now and blue skies although it's windy and not so warm in the shade.
Had a brief rain shower about an hour ago. Now it's blue skies again.
According to the weather forecast there is a 90% chance of a thunderstorm right now! No sign of it yet.
Sunshine was short lived here. From the look of the clouds we might get some more rain.

Been mostly grey today and spitting a bit. Starts to improve from tomorrow, and stays good well into the following week if the Beeb's weather is to be believed.
Lots of rain today, some heavy, but no thunder tat was predicted. Again, if the Beeb is to be believed, that's all the precipitation we will see for the next two weeks, and as the week goes on it gets warmer, hot, hotter!
The thunderstorms forecast never materialised here. All we had was a couple of rain showers. Not complaining mind you.
I like a bit of thunder and lightening. But it's very rare here.
Rained overnight and the rain will continue a little more this morning. At the moment it's 14C and only expected to reach 20C later in the day.
So my intention to cut the grass is put on hold, but the weather will not prevent me repairing the catch on the back gate.

For sure it is a bit of a pain, but it does come with some job satisfaction when done. Keeping your lawn is also the 'green' option in more ways than one - I'm convinced that much of the flooding that occurs in towns is due to the lack of plants soaking it up, when folk tarmac their gardens to increase off road parking, as well as the epidemic of new builds. The drains just can't cope.
Sunny spells 19c and quite breezy, will be a good day to catch up on the washing.

Anyway, the council now charge me £60 pa to collect my garden waste so I make dammed sure I get my money's worth!

We make sure we get our money's worth too - last month we had a quiet time of it, so we put the dead branches from next door's monkey puzzle in one of them. In return for things like that the neighbour always bakes extra of whatever she's making for us :)
Have you ever tried handling a monkey puzzle branch? They're the work of the devil. Imagine a few hundred Stanley knife blades stuck into a plank of wood and you'll be close.

Last week I did a job for a couple who had tortoises - they are just the coolest things, and I was told they practically live on weeds. Maybe you could get one to deal with your weeds, though it may be slow going. Them tortoises won't be hurried.
I'll be down in the coming weeks to look at that door problem, which I forgot about when I last visited :doh:

I don't know that it's a problem as such. You know where the locking bolts go across? Where one of them is, you can see through to daylight on the other side, whereas with the other two it seems to be sealed by the foam - or whatever that is.
Not sure if it's meant to be like that or something is missing but obviously it lets a draught through. I thought when winter comes round I can just do a bodge with gaffer tape.

Very fresh here this morning as more rain overnight. 18C max today, temp in my living room is down to 20.7C
Starts picking up again from tomorrow then 29C at the weekend. 11C change over just 4 days.

Just been out for food - sun is out, no wind, properly warm out there now.
22C at the moment and is expected to reach 30C later today.
We're in London to meet some visiting guests at Heathrow to take them to our home for a stay. So thank goodness for air-conditioning and sat-nav.6
The next few days are expected to reach 30C or more, which is when I shut down. However we shall feel obliged to take our guests out to show them the locale.
20C here, forecast to reach 27C by late afternoon.
Tomorrow and Saturday - 30C - That's about the temperature where I start feeling that it's a bit too warm.

24C here already. I am going to the coast.

A chap called Marcus came round earlier this morning to measure up for air conditioning downstairs, office and bedroom. Hope to be climate controlled early next week, so this may be my first and last post on this thread.
We spent a week at a spa in Mallorca a few weeks ago, it was cooler there than here. The world’s gone upside down.

We had a Flying Ant Day a couple of weeks ago. That's not to say we won't get another.
Was a lovely day today, got to 28.5c on car thermometer around 6pm. Not been a cloud in the sky, and for once the weekend looks like it will be good, too. In fact next week is looking pretty great.

After a few days of heat and sunshine, now back to normal and chucking it down.
Dull to start and pleasantly cool. Milk was still cold when I got it off the step at 0630.
Sun has just come out so now on the way to 23C. Going to be very windy too.

Same here. Forecast to be ok tomorrow and first bit of Thursday, before going to rain and staying that way well into next week. I have an unfinished job that needs completing so I can get paid, but finding some available warm bodies to do it in my absence, working around the weather, is like herding cats.
19C now, but will rise to 22C around midday. Rain expected late afternoon.
Just had a short but heavy rain shower. Fortunately I had finished cutting the grass as the shower started. Phew!

Dodged a few showers, looking very dark again just now, 20c. Thursday looks good (Sunny, 27c) but the rest of the week all a bit "meh" - weekend looks drizzly. Supposed to be going to Snetterton again on Sunday, at least I won't get sunburn!

Heavy rain last night, 18c and cloudy now
A totally dull and overcast day today. It rained a little this morning and looks as though it's going to rain at anytime.
Stopped raining here now.
Humidity in my living room at 70 percent! Never gets anything like that high usually. Had to open all the windows get a bit of a through draft.
Started to rain heavily about midday, but from about 15:00 the weather changed, the sky moved from being overcast and grey to large white cumulus clouds with patches of blue in between. And the sun even shone for a short while.
We have sun now - BBQ back on the agenda, thought I would be doing it in the air fryer!
Thunderstorm here, pretty close too, less than a mile.
It's been a lovely evening, BBQ done, dog walk done, sat in the garden for a while, then realised the chairs were soaking - it's ok drips don't get wetter, they just get bigger!
Yes - it's been a fine evening weatherwise. Now kicking back with a glass of wine.
Thunder went on for about an hour plus about 15 minutes of monsoon rain. The gutters were overflowing onto the pavement.
It's pretty fresh and clear out now. Can't beat that 'after a thunderstorm' air.
The smell after a rainstorm where the dust on the asphalt has been kicked up by the rain is quite unique to the UK. Nowhere else in the world can you smell that smell.
Strange but true.

Got back to Manchester airport at 4.30am to wet roads and a proper downpour on the M60. First rain we've seen in two weeks. Though upon getting home I find that the grass surprisingly (and annoyingly) resembles what they used to stuff mattresses with in the olden days :(

17C and overcast. According to the forecast we should be suffering a rain shower, but no sign of it so far. The temperature is expected to rise to a maximum of 21C.

Been out of town a few days so opened all the windows to air the place out, humidity inside actually went up.

It was rubbish here the last two years I can't remember further back than that.
In fairness it's been sunny here almost every day from mid February to the end of June so can't really complain.

Weather seems to be following the same pattern as recent years (warm and dry spring/early summer, crap summer), we'll have to see if we get some nice weather at the end of summer as has been the norm.
Local plant life doesn't like it though - grass much browner this year, and our acer's leaves have been super spindly and are dropping off already.
Though the local chestnut trees have been turbocharged by these conditions, conkers are already a fair size and I'm sure that usually happens September. I've been telling myself for the last couple of years that I would get out and forage for giant conkers (I already have suitable scales), but was to lazy to go through with it. I'm determined this year.

BBC predicts a week of clear skies, sunshine and mid twenties temperatures from next Tuesday, so hopefully we will get some summer. Bound to be fantastic here from the 13th as that’s when we head off to Greece! And camping booked for the 29th for three nights, so it will be terrible again by then!

Surely it's far too early to look for conkers. That's an autumn activity. I always have a lookout for giant conkers; and since you have thrown down the gauntlet - you're on! Any large ones you find and weigh, we will have to see an image of the conker on the scales along with the reading. :D

Surely it's far too early to look for conkers. That's an autumn activity. I always have a lookout for giant conkers; and since you have thrown down the gauntlet - you're on! Any large ones you find and weigh, we will have to see an image of the conker on the scales along with the reading. :D
It is at least another month away yet, maybe more, I just meant that the ones I'm seeing on the trees look more advanced than you might expect late July. As for providing photographic evidence, well, that might just be the kick up the bum I need to 'develop' an ability to post pics on here :)

It seems the top spot for giant conkers in the UK is Danbury Country Park in Chelmsford. I don't know why I'm sharing this information with "the competition", probably because I suspect you already know this. Still, it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts. I've been consoling myself with that one all my life :)
Edit: Ickworth in Suffolk gets more mentions, just as well we don't know anyone who lives down that way, eh Alex :)
The conkers I look for are only those that fall from trees within a couple of hundred yards from my house. I don't know why I do it, it's probably because I like their colour, which sadly doesn't last for more than a day.
I do know of Danbury Country Park, having walked there a few times, but it is a 15 minute drive, and if I'm out that way it is usually to visit the estuary village of Maldon.

Lest we all get a bit too serious about this, I should mention that The Guinness Book of Records will not accept, confirm and record the weight of 'conkers' for fear of damage to horse chestnut trees by over-enthusiastic collectors and entrants.
But as an example, I found a conker weighing 33.7g (https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?73810-Second-childhood/page4&highlight=conkers); so maybe we should set our own goal to be 35g or more.

I ended up re-reading the whole thread. That was entertaining :) So it looks like early October is the time for conker hunting, might be a bit sooner this year, given the weather we've had.
