The live album 'Some Enchanted Evening' is a better way to check them out.
It wasn’t bad, a couple of tracks really good and Reaper is of course a certified classic. I’ll try the live album another time, for some reason that album made me want to hear Werewolves of London.

Two Christmases ago I had 'Tension' on my wishlist. Anita's lad got me 'Fever' by mistake. Last Christmas he did get me 'Tension'. So now I have both. On vinyl. That should pay for Kylie's underwear for an hour or two :)

Try the album I posted as well as Man Made Object. YMMV but I think they are their best albums, not so keen on the new ones and didn't really enjoy the gig as much as I normally do with them.

If that had been my first time seeing them Alex I would have been more than happy, but it was my third and they have, like most artists, evolved musically. They are less contemporary jazz now, more contemporary electronic jazz. You might prefer the later stuff to the earlier?

I didn’t know them until playing that. I enjoyed it, but not blown away by it, might need another play or two.
Have posted this before, play it almost every day, three times in a row one day - so I would say this is my album of the year so far. And I never thought I would say that about an album that strongly features the recorder!

That's a fair point Mart, though in the case of Made in Japan I remember the original being just this side of piss poor. Just imo of course. So at some point soon I'll be getting the Steven Wilson remix, and I'm confident I'll like it. I gave my earlier CD copy to my mate, who probably wouldn't notice if it were a recording of me farting the tunes.

Me too, on both counts. This one probably my favourite although ESCM is up there. Steve (Pigmy Pony) if you haven’t got any BT I would recommend him and I think would be right up your street.

I would agree with that. To use a Wham! analogy, Robbie was the Andrew Ridgeley. I always felt he held you back. But for him to then claim he'd gone solo, that must have stung.

I would agree with that. To use a Wham! analogy, Robbie was the Andrew Ridgeley. I always felt he held you back. But for him to then claim he'd gone solo, that must have stung.

We were never there at the same time. This was 1991 and by that point he was already become the fat dancer out of 'Take That.' I saw him mention in it in an interview that's all.

Lives in London now next door to Jimmy Page, says he didn't want his children growing up with American accents. So I suppose now they'll end up with Mockney or Estuary accents which are both a lot worse than Californian IMO.

Not bad - in fact quite good really. This is a double disc package consisting of an audio CD and a DVD.
Normally I dislike video discs of audio performances: they are often live recordings and don't really add much. This on the other hand is somewhat different and are a series of short films. Skillfully done using the whole gamut of video techniques; stop action; solarisation; image negative and action reversal, they are quirky, at times self indulgent, but interesting and worth watching.

I like her earlier albums, this is just as good, if not better. Very distinctive voice, if not dissimilar to Florence and the Machine’s Florence Welch, which again may be a good or bad thing depending on your taste!

I do remember now you mention it. My daughter is a big fan, and she couldn’t believe I had her early CDs in the collection - so of course she snaffled them for herself! She is great, but like a lot of artists I have sort of lost touch with her output the last decade or so, added a load to Tidal to try and get up to date.

A couple of earlier posts reminded me of this album, which I got a few years ago, but wasn't too keen on. Gets plenty of positive reviews, so I guess it's just me. Anyway, I thought I'd revisit, and no, I'm still not feeling it.

I tried Lucinda William’s latest when it came out but it’s not saved in my favourites so I am guessing she wasn’t to my taste but will try that one later.
One of my favourite artists, but I think you need to see her live if your'e unsure - after that, well, it's normally different. London shows of hers always have an audience full of A-list musicians. She often has Stuart Mathis as her lead guitar, who's crazy good. I've seen her with Doug Pettibone too. Cars Wheels on a Gravel Road is what most people list as her best, but I like West more - Essence is good too. So if you don't know her, those two are a good place to start. If you don't like those, she's probably not for you.

Yep, I think I prefer it to the new All Them Witches Album, which is unexpected and a tad disappointing.
A couple of earlier posts reminded me of this album, which I got a few years ago, but wasn't too keen on. Gets plenty of positive reviews, so I guess it's just me. Anyway, I thought I'd revisit, and no, I'm still not feeling it.

I wouldn't disagree, Steve, not an album (overall) I particularly love, either. But then neither is Music Has The Right to Children (their debut) - perhaps as I am loving the new one I should also give them a revisit.

Anyone know Aynsley Lister? English Blues/rock guitarist and singer-songwriter - had never heard of him, but he’s playing Norwich Arts Centre on Wednesday (I always get their newsletter via email on a Sunday) so checking him out.
Impressed so far, he can certainly sing and play the geetar, and the tunes are catchy. This is his latest album, and tinged with Pandemic inspired songs I am guessing. Another guess is that there’s a new album incoming, hence the tour. Will definitely check out his other stuff.

Yup, seen him a couple of times at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne. I don't really play him though, but as a live show he's definitely worth seeing, or was, been over 10 years since I last caught him live. You should go Alex, he'll be good in NAC, that's his kind of venue. He used to be a bit more raw live, his records are a bit safe and MOR for me.

Liked her 2013 first album, but haven't really enjoyed anything since then . . . however, this is growing on me. I doubt anyone here will feel the same though.

Yeah, it's not bad, harks back to where she came from. Try her first album at some point if you think about it, Same Trailer Different Park (her best for me) - she wrote it as a young 20 something, lyrically it's very good and why I like it. I've seen her a few times, but the last time I left for the bar after about 20 minutes!

:lol: probably . . . I played it a lot when it came out, Bob Harris was a big fan and had her on his show a few times. First time I saw her was in Bush Hall with about 60 people, now she sells out stadiums in the US!
Still working my way through the new releases - this one is grabbing my attention, had not heard of her before (no relation to Bruce, BTW!) but she has a lovely voice, and the production sounds really nice. Will have to try her earlier stuff as well.

Can either be regarded as the last Pink Floyd LP, or the first of Roger Waters solo releases. Either way it is, IMO, one their/his least successful recordings. I rarely ever play it.

I view it as a transition album, some is very good, especially lyrically - it's different and because of that a lot don't like it. My best mate thought it was their best album, but he was nearly ten years younger than me. It's certainly not terrible :)

Possibly, but I think 'The Wall' is utter crap, and unlike virtually everybody else, I don't think much of 'Wish You Were Here' either. :sofa:

Pink Floyd are one of those bands that I never really liked when I was younger - some of my mates were really into them in the 80's but I didn't really get it. I'm not a massive fan even now after acquiring all of their albums on CD with the 2011 "Discovery" Remasters but rarely play them... :sofa: Maybe I'll have a PF night tonight.

I don't give buttons for any of their solo output. I remember a mate getting Gilmour's first solo album and we all went round for a listen - major disappoint.
Water's is probably the most interesting in terms of content but I still don't rate any of it. Only one decent tune on each except 'Pros & Cons' which has zero.

Yes, I too dislike 'Pros and Cons ....', and think it the poorest of his solo output. My favourite is 'Amused to Death'.
Some Zappa-related insanity. I love how this goes from do-wop at the start, through the nuttiness of 'In France' and 'Truck Driver Divorce' to the brutality of 'Whipping Post'

That's not the version I have but the one I have is the same master as that one with the cards. Doug Sax I think, supposedly approved by the band.

Yup, I've got 9 of them . . . it's quite embarrassing really, but it made such an impact on me as teenager, it became an obsession. I probably can't tell the difference now, I used to be able to pick out the MFSL one and the Japanese Black Triangle - probably can't now.

I remember a good few years ago I was visiting London by train. Also on the train was a group of young Japanese. When the train got close to London, you could see Battersea power station in the near distance. The Japanese party went wild, pulling out their cameras to photograph the power station - obviously they were all PF fans. Shame there wasn't a flying pig for them as well.
