Reread the last line of my last reply

That still doesn't follow. Certainly withdrawing or increasing the support is a hold he has over both Ukraine and Russia, if the war ends he no longer has that hold over either. But the war won't end unless Putin gets some concession and Ukraine agrees to that. If Ukraine is going to make concessions they will want a beneficial deal from the Americans as compensation.

Suspect everyone involved has by now worked out all the possible outcomes. Hard to predict how exactly it will pan out. But it will pan out.

100%, yes - and Ukraine will agree to this. And only sensible that they do - those resources are there, but Ukraine on its own doesn't have the ability to properly exploit them - US investment in the mining technology Ukraine doesn't have or can afford means those assets get realised - Ukraine will want (and will deserve) a US security "backstop" if they agree to what on the face of it is an exploitative deal by Trump, but in the end it's just sensible business. Sadly, so many young lives on both sides have been lost - anything that can be done to stop that continuing is a plus.

Yeah,
its a damn shame.
A glimmer of hope for the Russian people with Gorbachev, but the System beat him back.
Hopefully when Putin goes it will being about change again.

Speaking of Kompromat?
Trump now absolving Putin of responsibility for invading Ukraine (See what you made him do Ukraine? :steam:) and voted NO alongside Russia in UN Resolution condemning Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.
https://apnews.com/article/un-russia-ukraine-war-resolution-trump-zelenskyy-cde221e5850196776525403e788c272c
Happily the resolution went through, this is a first step to... something.

The US now stands beside Russia, Belarus and North Korea and Israel against Ukraine.
Europe and the UN are waking up to the danger Trump poses, wish America would do.

Signs are there though?

I'm not sure tbh whether Trump and his cronies stand against Ukraine, or its just a tactic to bring Russia on side. I've been reading on Twitter that they're trying to pull Russia out of China's orbit, the new administration is - apparently - back to the old school of int. relations that says big powers have their sphere of influence, and that should be respected. For me the Ukraine war was complex and I don't know whether the last administration's way of doing things would have worn Russia down, may be it would have, it's hard to tell, I don't know enough about it all to be confident of supporting either view. But here we are now, in the new reality. Next few months gonna be interesting, I do worry though that if a peace deal is reached, what that will look like for those Ukrainians left behind Russian lines, and whether Putin will seek to annex Ukraine completely, this ain't over yet, just cos orange man has made a deal.

Mikeandvan

One dimensional way to think.

Ok, I'll try to be clearer.
Some Historical context:

- In September 1938, Chamberlain met with Hitler in Munich.

The two leaders agreed that Germany would not make further demands for land in Europe in exchange for Hitler having the Sudetenland.
- Chamberlain returned to London and declared “Peace for our time”.

- However, Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia the next day.
- In March 1939, German troops took over the rest of Czechoslovakia.
- In September 1939, Chamberlain declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland.

If Trump keeps appeasing Russia, Putin wont stop at Ukraine, next stop probably the Baltic States.
Like with Adolf Hitler at the time, Putin needs stopped, and appeasement is a terrible idea.

Putin cannot be trusted.
Or do you think He can be?

Whats happening here is very serious, and the guy with the biggest stick is a compromised Fool and will do anything to evade justice.
Anything. Including throwing the whole of Europe under the bus (and provoke more War)
But hey...

If you don’t see the parallels here and just think “Trump is funny… cool” I don’t know what to say man.

*EDIT*
And Trump has done eff all, except destabilise the American economy and bring grief to working Americans
AND
aided and abetted Russia's aims toward Ukraine.

He's a danger to security in Europe, but of course Putin wants that...

I don't think Putin will seek to annex any other states, though he could well try again to take over Ukraine, though likely in an underhand way, like seek to impose a puppet regime. It's hard to tell whether Trump is going full dictator, it depends on how much American resistance there is. It's hard to tell when he speaks such rubbish most of the time, what his intentions are.

Mikeandvan
25-02-2025, 21:34
Ok,
I'll call it misguided point of view then. :D

Russia have surprised everyone by how shit they are milliatarily, sure.
Watch what happens if America pulls their support though?

Russia will.advance, and Trump knows this.
He's got his eye on the Prize now, Ukraine's resources.

Yes good point, without US weapons, that weakens Ukraine considerably, don't know how much they can get from European states? And yes Putin could well seek to overtake Ukraine, with its raw materials, and munitions industry, would he go further though? And why?

Macca

Meanwhile,

As I predicted right from the off numerous Trump executive orders subject to legal challenges:

Ending birthright citizenship Immigrants' rights advocates, multiple states Temporarily blocked ❌

Making it easier to fire federal employees The National Treasury Employees Union, PEER Ongoing

Creating the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Nonprofit groups, National Security Counselors Ongoing

Ending government DEI efforts Advocates, university professors, the city of Baltimore Partially temporarily blocked ❌

Ending federal support for gender-affirming care Advocates, transgender young adults, families with transgender youth, multiple states Temporarily blocked ❌

Suspending asylum Immigrants' rights advocates Temporarily blocked ❌

Reversing the offshore drilling ban Environmental groups Ongoing

Dismantling USAID Groups representing foreign aid workers Ongoing

====

This why I keep saying talk of what he might do isn't relevant. What can he actually accomplish with so many legal challenges?

Temporarily blocked is good, permenantly blocked and thrown out of Court is better.
Things are not ok in the US, and its down to Trump.

Exactly what I said to you at the start - the President cannot just do anything he wants to. He can try, and Trump likes to try, but a lot of it won't fly.

It will take time before any are blocked permanently, nothing to do with courts of law happens fast.

My bad, I read your post as saying Trump would try for a third term. But yeh, the Trans issue angers a lot of people because it's really a fringe belief that has been accepted by the mainstream parties, all over the West, not just the US. Why that is the case is another story. I mean men in women's sports/changing rooms/clothes, it's literally the definition of insanity.

Gazjam

Gazjam

Yup.
If he gets 10% of his ideas done, its a good day.

But like all good mob bosses,
he puts the word out and others do it for him.

Easy to dismiss him as an idiot, but not a good idea to downplay him I feel?
In 6 weeks Trump has effectively:

Gutted the government
Threatened post WW2 World order
Threatened government workers
Risked plunging US into a recession with all the personnel cuts
Eliminated most of the regulations that kept the oligarchs in check.

so theres that.

Macca

But what's happening now... isn't on anyone but Trump.
That's what we're talking about, right?

Trump also beat Hilliary Clinton, who's popularity as per polling was WAY bigger than Bidens when he left Office.
Tho James Comey kaiboshed Clinton's campaign with the timing of her email 'scandal', if not for that Trump would still be sniping at the sidelines from Mara Lago.

Happily Trump doesn't know when to stop, and people are pushing back.

True, but Trump did not make any secret of how he was going to approach things - and he got the votes.

He is testing the limits of what a POTUS can do - as I have been saying since the start he will find that is quite limited in the long run. He isn't the first President to come into office with his sleeves rolled up, only to be frustrated in his ambitions at almost every turn.

He's not a politician so he doesn't think or act like they do, that is his advantage. Nevertheless I still predict that we will see how the U.S system of government works in preventing any major change from happening. We have the same here, it just works a little differently and is more behind the scenes.

Sleeves rolled up? And wielding a sledgehammer I might add. All the signs are there for him to go full dictator, but at this moment it's difficult to see whether it's part cosplay (like Bannon and Musk with their Nazi salutes), or whether this will all end up in American civil war pt.11. Looking back at the events around the BLM protests a few years ago and all the defund the police bullshit this war was already in the offing. The culture wars have lit a powder keg, with the anti abortion laws being the first salvo fired by the right, turning back the march of progress by half a century, what else is to come? Who knows with such an erratic figure as Trump. This is absolutely unprecedented in US politics, including the choice of heads of dep. - have you ever seen such a bunch of goons? Hegseth, Patel as head of the FBI - the guy what wrote a freaking kids book about Trump 'the King', it's nauseating.

Gosh that was incomfortable watching, Vance's tone was very bullying. Snyder's prediction seems the most convincing right now. No deal, Trump/Vance will blame Zelensky, they can wash their hands of it, then how much support will Europe show, how much can it give? By that I mean military support, will they be brave enough to supply Ukraine potentially without US backing?

I've been fairly ambivalent up until now about Trump, and don't really know much about J D Vance, but (pardon the language) in my opinion they came across as a pair of "See You Next Tuesday"s from that interview.

He now supposedly has the EU mineral deal on the table, too. So maybe he feels he doesn't need the Trump deal?

He didn't seem at all keen on the idea of a ceasefire. 'Putin will just break it' is a pretty weak excuse.

Seems all he wants is a continual stream of cash and weapons so he can beat the Russians conclusively. Fair enough but can/will the EU offer that?

Maybe he could go and talk to the Chinese? Maybe he already did?

Your comments are a bit harsh. Z was just trying to get some commitments for the security of his country as Putin has broken his promises many times before. Therefore these are legitimate questions to ask before signing a transactional deal.

Maybe EU should have asked something back from USA before going to war for them after 9/11?!

He's holding one very, very important card - he is the democratically elected President of a sovereign Country that has been invaded by Russia.

Trumps ambassador to Finland (2017-21) on Newsnight just now spouting blatant Russian propaganda; 'Zelenksy bought a yacht with the aid money we sent him', or words to that effect, unbelievable, does she really think that? But now she's said it, she's planted another seed of doubt into people's minds. Trump repeatedly says they gave $350 billion of aid to Ukraine. Everyone outside of US thinks that figure is closer to $120 billion. And they want about $500 billion out of them in minerals? That's quite a mark up. Especially considering Starmer corrected Trump earlier this week saying our contribution was mostly gifted, and not a loan. What's the truth here?

Maybe Zelenskyy should consider out-trumping Trump in the outrageousness department, and see if China want to buy some minerals? ;)

That's quite a mark up. Especially considering Starmer corrected Trump earlier this week saying our contribution was mostly gifted, and not a loan. What's the truth here?

Maybe Zelenskyy should consider out-trumping Trump in the outrageousness department, and see if China want to buy some minerals? ;)

The truth is as Starmer & Macron both corrected him in the Oval Office but a lie repeated many times is never big enough to become Trump’s alternate reality that he sells to his followers.

China has already a lot of rare earths, hence why they are leading the battery raw material economic war against everyone else.

Well he could always up sticks and move over to California's Central Valley (which provides about a quarter of the nation's food), where if Trump has his way will have around 330,000 vacancies pretty soon. And those sugar beets won't pick themselves.

Trump now suspended all military aid to Ukraine.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/mar/04/us-military-aid-ukraine-pause-trump-zelenskyy-updates

Yesterday,
Kier Starmer when asked by Scottish MP Stephen Flynn said that Trump told him he had “no intention” of stopping aid to Ukraine.
Trump is a lying piece of shit, still don’t know why people are surprised at this.

Also,
Trump halts all Cyber offensive work against Russia, Prntagon Head saying it no longer recognises Russia as a cyber threat. Of course they don’t.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2er34w0jgdo

Also,
As of yesterday, Trump has imposed 25% Tariffs on its neighbours Mexico and Canada, and 10% Tariffs on China.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/saradorn/2025/03/03/trump-confirms-25-tariffs-on-canada-and-mexico-will-start-tomorrow-heres-how-they-could-impact-prices/

Canada supplies a third of thenUS’s electricity, oil and gas, and they have said they will respond to Trumps tariffs in kind.
Things may be about to get tough for America.

EU could easily supply him with enough money and weapons instead. UK alone is giving Ukraine 3 billion a year plus favourable weapons deals.

The Russian army is rubbish and has had its arse kicked continually since the start. They would like nothing better than for it to end. But Putin knows he can't be seen to back down.

Won't get peace there until either Putin dies or Zelensky is willing to make some concessions to Russia.

Trump thinks he can force those concessions this way. I don't think that will happen, Zelensky/Ukraine would rather go down fighting to the last man than give the Russians 1 yard of their territory. That's their mentality, which is understandable.

Remains to be seen if EU will step up to the plate. I think they should, but I don't think they will. Even though the Ukraine war is much more their problem than it is America's.

Still only at the 'talk' stage though. EU big problem is that they all have to agree. Obviously Poland and the Baltic states will be up for it - but since UK left, the only net contributor to the EU is Germany so it all depends on them really, as they'll be paying.

Agree it's a first step but there's no point sending messages as Putin won't be interested in that. He can't back down whatever the message.

All EU support will do is prolong the war. Now you may say that's better than giving any concession to Putin, and I'm inclined to agree. But we aren't on the front lines doing the fighting and the dying.

Neither are the people making the decisions, apart from Zelensky and Putin.
Zelensky's record is 100% so far - zero doubt of his integrity.

Bigger picture here:
and that is what Europe is factoring in.

Unlikely a now united Europe throws Zelensky under the bus to appease Trumps demands, now demanding Z resigns and someone else negotiate for Ukraine.
A line straight from Putin I'd say, he has form in mock Elections and installing puppet governments.

You think USA dropping out of NATO is 'likely'?

What's interesting is Europe has done nothing about Ukraine for years and all of a sudden they're rallying round to do something.

What's the catalyst for that?

Trump.

Now if Europe has to bankroll Ukraine, and the USA contributes nothing further, hard to see that not being a win for Trump. Not saying he planned it that way, but....

That was what I said.

Whats Europe been doing?
Europe were directly involved in the 2014 Minsk Agreement, under the guidance of French President and the German Federal Chancellor, so not sure where your getting that Europe has been hands off.

Also,
When Putin's Russia invaded Ukraine for its "3 day Special Milliatary Operation" (now 3 years and counting) Europe stepped up and provided milliatary assistance and funding to Ukraine.
Europe and the UK has been instrumental in providing support to Ukraine.

What was the Catalyst?
PUTIN'S INVASION.

Despite some folks having a hard-on for Trump, and are normalising his behaviour over time,
you'd like to think even THEY know it was Putin's invasion that got Europe and the UK to Ukraine's side?

Given the current level of gaslighting and misinformation though,
(not to mention lack of critical thinking) you gotta wonder.

Who knows wtf Trump will do next, it's very easy to infer that America has been 'captured' by Russia, I mean they voted for the UN res. that said Russia wasn't an aggressor in this conflict, alongside N Korea and all the other nutcases! It's early days yet, and remember the newly appointed head of the FBI wrote a book about Trump 'the king', alarm bells people! Twitter says a 'mineral deal' is close between Zel and Trump, but the same feed says it may not go ahead, on other words, nobody knows wtf is going on and anything could happen. Same with the tariffs - first they were being raised, then they weren't, or being suspended, now they're going ahead again, soon chaos could well come from all this.

Now Trump's saying protestors 'on campus'' will be imprisoned, once again, is he just clowning, who the f*** knows! And Vance the fat f***ing gerbil in Europe last week bitching about free speech, these nuts just say any old shit!

Some people say Europe doesn't stand a chance against Russia, other's say that's wrong, I'll be honest, I don't have a clue, I don't know the state of our militaries, may be we send over some men in dresses, so the Ruskies might die laughing?

I think that EU can stand up to Putin with military aids now. They have enough funds and they have already given more than the US in this war, despite Trump lying about the $300B+ that he thinks that they gave when it’s around the $110B.

Besides, there are also the $300B of RU frozen assets that they could use to fund Ukraine or leverage in discussion with Putin.

However, EU is lacking in the Intel and it will take several years to get back on track here. Ukraine needs the US intel and Musk’s Starlink communication.

This is why I think that Zelenskyy went back to Trump, as he needs to buy time until there is a clear EU plan forward.

Will see if Trump unlocks the military aids as the rare earth deal could be signed as starting point. It will be back to Trump to get Russia to get to the negotiation table with Ukraine, EU and negotiate a cease fire.

Stolen from hifisubjectivist.com

An intriguing analysis has been circulating online regarding the psychological aspects of Zelensky’s meeting with Trump and Vance, conducted using ChatGPT.

From this analysis, it becomes evident that we have witnessed a true masterclass in gaslighting, manipulation, and coercion on the part of Trump and his entourage. Let’s break down the key points:

1. Blaming the victim for their own situation

Trump explicitly tells Zelensky: “You have allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.” This is classic abuser rhetoric—blaming the victim for their suffering. The implication is that Ukraine itself is responsible for being occupied by Russia and for the deaths of its people.

2. Pressure and coercion into ‘gratitude’

Vance demands that Zelensky say “thank you.” This is an extremely toxic tactic—forcing the victim to express gratitude for the help they desperately need, only to later accuse them of ingratitude if they attempt to assert their rights.

3. Manipulating the concept of ‘peace’

Trump claims that Zelensky is “not ready for peace.” However, what he actually means is Ukraine’s capitulation. This is a classic manipulation technique—substituting the idea of a just peace with the notion of surrender.

4. Refusing to acknowledge the reality of war

Trump repeatedly insists that Zelensky has “no cards to play” and that “without us, you have nothing.” This is yet another abusive tactic—undermining the victim’s efforts by asserting that they are powerless without the mercy of their ‘saviour.’

5. Devaluing the victims of war

“If you get a ceasefire, you must accept it so that bullets stop flying and your people stop dying,” Trump says. Yet, he ignores the fact that a ceasefire without guarantees is merely an opportunity for Russia to regroup and strike again.

6. Dominance tactics

Trump constantly interrupts Zelensky, cutting him off: “No, no, you’ve already said enough,” and “You’re not in a position to dictate to us.” This is deliberate psychological pressure designed to establish a hierarchy in which Zelensky is the subordinate.

7. Forcing capitulation under the guise of ‘diplomacy’

Vance asserts that “the path to peace lies through diplomacy.” This is a classic strategy where the aggressor is given the opportunity to continue their aggression unchallenged.

8. Projection and distortion of reality

Trump declares: “You are playing with the lives of millions of people.” Yet, in reality, it is he who is doing exactly that—shifting responsibility onto Zelensky.

9. Creating the illusion that Ukraine ‘owes’ the US

Yes, the US is assisting Ukraine, but presenting this aid as “you must obey, or you will receive nothing” is not a partnership—it is financial and military coercion.

10. Undermining Ukraine’s resistance

Trump states that “if it weren’t for our weapons, this war would have ended in two weeks.” This is an attempt to erase Ukraine’s achievements and portray its efforts as entirely dependent on US support.

Conclusion

Trump and his team employed the full spectrum of abusive tactics: gaslighting, victim-blaming, coercion into gratitude, and manipulation of the concepts of peace and diplomacy. This was not a negotiation—it was an attempt to force Zelensky into accepting terms beneficial to the US but potentially fatal for Ukraine.

These quotes from the bible are all very interesting, but what are your personal thoughts?

Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.

A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes beat him, and left him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

So too, a Levite, when he came to the same place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was, and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denari and gave them to the innkeeper, whom he knew was actually one of the robbers, and said to him "Promise you won't bomb the shit out of him, and I see good things happening for the both of us."

Then turning to the man, he said "You owe me for the wine and the donkey".

No - Wostanton quoted Philippians which is New Testament. Ezekiel is Old Testament. It depends on which Christian sect you belong to but Roman Catholicism and CoE are both fine with the Old Testament, I think Methodists are too.

That it seems to be a different 'God' in each one (OT - vengeful and harsh, NT - loving and forgiving) just gets glossed over.

Jesus put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and slipped away. When the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the weeds also appeared.

The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

‘No,’ he said, ‘if you pull the weeds now, you might uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my barn.’ ”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came to Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

He replied, “The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed represents the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.

As the weeds are collected and burned in the fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will weed out of His kingdom every cause of sin and all who practice lawlessness. And they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.

He who has ears, let him hear.

It's Matthew 13:24 - 30. Parables are essentially riddles. They are not analogies.

The parable of the wheat and the weeds is that there is good and bad in everyone: the proportion of each is constantly changing. So one shouldn't point the finger at anyone, as the accusers are themselves a mixture of good and bad. It is not until the end of ones life that the mixture will assessed.

It is not unique to Christianity: the ancient Egyptians believed that after death the soul would be weighed against a feather. If the feather was heavier than the soul, that person would go to paradise and vice versa.

That's because a number of aspects of Christianity were borrowed from the Egyptians. The Eucharist ceremony is based on Egyptian ritual magic, and IIRC the concept of the Holy Trinity is also Egyptian.

Jesus allegedly spent the time between adolescence and becoming an activist in his early 30s, in Egypt.

It is thought by some that the whole of Judaism came out of Egypt. The Jews were expelled from Egypt as the pharaohs had reverted back to polytheistic beliefs. The monotheistic revolution of Arhkenaten and the worship of a single god, the Aten, as represented by the Sun, caused great resentment and anger amongst all the priests of the former religion.

Arkenaten's son was Tutankaten. After Arkenaten's death the priests revolted and convinced the boy pharaoh to support the former religion and to change his name to Tutankamen.

It is though that Moses was a high priest of the short-lived monotheistic religion and took it, along with the followers, into what would be eventually be known as Israel.

I'm trying to picture (when Putin tells them to stick their ceasefire up their arse), Big Balls and his ventriloquist's dummy getting in Putin's face and telling him "You're playing with World War 3!" Then we'll see just how big his balls really are.

Green card just means the right to work it doesn't make you a U.S citizen so they can still deport you if you breach the terms of the visa.

They are saying he breached those terms during the protests by "locking down buildings and destroying property". Federal Court will ultimately decide if that's the case.

He is married and has first child on the way. Seems to me to be a very foolish young man to jeopardise his own and his family's future for some self-important 'protest'. But some people have to learn the hard way.

It doesn't have anything to do with free speech. It's damaging property. Maybe he did not do that in which case they've no grounds to chuck him out. If he did then tough luck next time he'll know to exercise free speech without damaging property or committing some other crime.

psssst... There are scores of Europeans not on board with that.

Whether Sweden should be the poster child is up for debate; nevertheless, where are the Europe first leaders? UK first leaders? France first leaders? Who's fighting for you (and by "you", I do not mean "asylum seekers", "dreamers" or other such BS titles substituted for gate crashers who don't give two chips about the history or the people of the land they are invading, while you choke on your non-existent free speech and throw eye daggers at a leader who is decisively putting his house in order. Comical, if pathetic. Still good for a laugh.

Well …

(1) Unless you or your ancestors are Native Americans, you are all originally immigrants in USA. Actually, over 61% of the US population is of European descent. Were your ancestors as crappy as those you call crappy today?

(2) Mass deportation could have a long term cost to US of up to 6.8% in GDP due to labor shortages in vital industries like agriculture, housing, and health care, hence raising costs for all Americans.

(3) Added to the above are the immediate higher cost of living, and less government support, put upon you by your dear President (and his billionaire friends) through increased tariffs and the dismantlement of key agencies. I would not want to be in your shoes man.

Back to hurling insults, are we?

(1) My paternal grandmother was "native American". If you feel a little stupid now, I understand. You don't know my ancestral make up. Don't pretend you do. Don't make yourself an ass. And, cut the bullshit sweet pants, I did not call anyone crappy and you know it. But, when one only has blind stupidity to rely on, twisting someone else's words to fit a losing narrative is common place. That's wanker level garbage right there. Read. The. Words. Try to understand.

(2) Thanks for the "what if" and debunked media talking points. Sure, don't deport... we need illegal aliens to do menial jobs, underpaid for crap money and no benefits... and the young kids and women to be sex slaves of pedophiles. No sir, your regurgitation of the MSM is just more agenda driven rubbish.

(3) I'm sorry, do you live here? Got boots on the ground here? Do you know anything about my status before or after the election? Didn't think so because if you did you'd realize the ignorance you're spewing. What's key about agencies that have been laundering money back to politicians and special interest groups? Do you really think I'm upset about the prospect of external revenue replacing, in part or completely, my paying of taxes that has funded stupid shit like both sides of a war?? That's daft. You can't fill my shoes, so no worries.

You can take your MASA and stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

I'll stick with a desire and a wish for Europe to be Europe, the US to be the US and a return to the day when New Yorkers and Londoners could walk down streets admiring the architecture, observing the history and largely at peace with other residents.

If that's not something that's sensible to you (and I don't imagine it is) and, as I said, you'd rather see the UK continue a downward spiral, that's you. Make a banner. Add it to your others, like "Gays for Palestine". It'd fit right in and make about as much sense. FFS I'm talking to someone who prefers living in the toilet rather than cleaning it and sitting on top. Make that make sense. Nevermind. You can't.

Looks like I have hit a nerve here. To clarify:

- I have not misread you … In your message, you mentioned that Europe or London are crappy because of migrants.

- If you have Native American ancestors, where are exactly the insults in my comments? The fact remains that US was built by generations on immigrants coming from all over the world (Europe, Africa, Asia, …) thanks to whom it had become and remain this super power today!

- Your original message used the generic term of “migrants”, but in your most recent message you specifically referred to “illegal aliens”. What about legal migrants? My comment were aimed at them … dreamers who helped/are build(ing) your country.
Therefore your comments on “illegal aliens” are misplaced and insulting to the vast majority of migrants who came in the US legally! You should consider being more humble, changing your rhetoric and apologising to them!

- on your line … ”Your desire and a wish for Europe to be Europe, the US to be the US and a return to the day when New Yorkers and Londoners could walk down streets admiring the architecture, observing the history and largely at peace with other residents”

I don’t know in which world you live in … Today Londoners, Europeans and Canadians can admire their architectures, observe their rich histories and were largely at peace until your dear President decided to declare a commercial war to allies and strengthen his relationship with dictators like Putin. So you maybe partly correct but the migrants have nothing to do with this!

There are major problems in the West - most caused by the breakdown of authority, though an authoritarian like Trump is not the solution, as we've seen with the backtracking on free speech (that didn't take long). Putin watches with glee, as the west burns itself to the ground, and people point the finger and say he caused it all, what a joke, he merely exploits it. The same failure of authority which resists owning up to one's mistakes. The globalists thought they could rely on China to produce for the world's needs, forgetting all about their own people and the lack of meaningful work which results in hollowed out societies. So western societies with very low amounts of meaningful work for its citizens, further compounded by immigration from Asia/Africa, why do our leaders torture us like this? It's baffling.

I don't think the west is 'burning itself to the ground' or that it has major problems. Problems, yes, but largely the same problems it always had. Most of which are insoluable.

Most people in the west live happy, productive lives - which is why most of the rest of the world want to come and live here too.

A better solution might be to take a firmer hand with the dysfunctional countries that they all want to leave - but this is now seen as 'neo colonialism'. So won't ever happen. Instead we just chuck money at them most of which goes right into some despot's Swiss bank account.

Are you kidding? Walk in any high street in the land, beggars, e-bikes, shoplifting tolerated, too many non indigenous, people badly dressed, bad manners, stupid chavs going to the school gates in their dressing gowns, any semblance of respect or protocol gone out the window. What the hell happened to civic pride? All our manufacturing base gone, these are new problems, society is profoundly changed, we don't act as a society anymore, Thatcher was right.

Of all those things you list only e-bikes and collecting your children in nightwear are fairly recent and if they're the only new things we have to worry about I'll take that :)

Manufacturing - we make more stuff here than we ever did in the past - it just employs a lot less people.

Society changes it always has done. Some things for the better, some for the worse. Was it better years ago? I think it was, at least in some respects, but that might just be nostalgia.

You're failing to notice the seismic changes in our towns and cities in the last 50 years. When I were a lad you wouldn't see grown men begging - not in the numbers you do now, you;d see the odd tramp may be, but all these drug addicts are a terrible indictment on our society. The welfare state has mushroomed out of control, so now there are as many unemployed in some shape or form than working, add to that all the home working bollocks, and as a society we;re rapidly dying. There's lots of new glass buildings, but that hardly improves things for the masses does it? In Brighton most of them are student accomodation for rich Arab and Chinese kids, it's a joke. We've gone from a productive industrious country to a nation of spivs or shirkers.

Maybe it's different where you are but I've lived round here 35 years, it was a poor area then, and it still is. Not much has changed except there's a lot more foreigners, many of them students, but I can't say I've personally seen a downside to that. It's actually quite a lot more peaceful than it was when it was all indigenous personnel.

I think we've always been a nation of two halves - one doing most of the running in science, engineering, medicine (which we still do) and one of the pirates, spivs and chancers who actually got out there and brought all the money in.

Same as lots of countries but we were better at it. Probably because of the bad weather. While the foreigners were on siesta we were doing gun drill.

I would agree that these days there is far too much litter, graffiti and rough sleeping in our cities today. However I have seen no sign of 'chav' parents dropping their kids off at school whilst wearing dressing gowns.

I have noticed an increase of people of different colour and culture now living and working in the village: but I welcome such diversity.

As to bad manners, lack of respect - I have noticed the exact opposite: most people, regardless of age or background, are polite and helpful.

Agree with all of this, though the scumbags on e-bikes are a pet hate of mine.

There seems to be no accountability, they cover their faces, ride at ridiculous speeds on the roads and pavements, even taunting the police, and are almost impossible to catch. I'd like to see plain-clothes coppers on the beat, armed with a stick they could chuck spear-style through the spokes as they pass, though no doubt that would be seen as 'excessive force' :(

An 8 minute video about two incidents? In the first a foreign national is later referred to as an illegal immigrant without justification, and isn't it convenient that the person sitting to her left has their smartphone on video record?

The second clip concerns a woman who has a 'bee in her bonnet' about foreign immigrants and is making a lot of noise about it. It's called free speech: something which is still allowed in the UK, and something to be proud of.

Yes, apart from a few Youtube clips and a handful of sensationalist headlines I do believe 'free speech' still exists here. Unlike over the pond, where free speech is only there for those who agree with The Trump. Anyone with an opposing view can expect their integrity and competence to be shot to bits. A tactic which by now should be familiar to anyone visiting this thread.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!! One thousand percent agree, yes. (But, I expect that from a thinking and discerning man.) That's the entire point of this exercise. When someone is helplessly trapped in his own echo chamber (decrying all outside it as misinformation, disinformation, conspiracy theory, etc. etc.) you use his echo chamber (the fissures, cracks and breaks thereof) to expose him to reality. He will not consider other sources no matter how sensible. His cognitive dissonance will not allow him to accept that his "trusted sources" could be lying to him or, at least, presenting him with half truths and deceptions. You have to get him to look down, open his eyes and see that the foundation he is standing on is crumbling. That is the whole reason for posting youtube videos and content from mainstream media. That is the echo chamber; but, it is crumbling; truths are rearing their ugly head too quickly and too often. The censorship czars cannot control what is now a flood. All the independent sources on rumble.com, all the user eye-witness video and commentary... it's not going anywhere. There is only going to be more of it. Those who ignore it do so at their own peril, just ask the Washington swamp.

Yes, again, about London. I agree. Typical, no. Nevertheless, it is still very much a problem and should be of concern wherever such situations arise in the nation. Some here do not apply that same logic to American cities (NYC, Chicago, L.A., etc.). Instead, they swear that those cities are a true reflection of American values. Such a stance is nonsensical. They are not. "America" spoke that loudly and resolutely with the presidential election, each subsequent confirmation and speaks it with overwhelmingly with support of DOGE's work. That is why President Trump is in office again. MSM lied/lies to people here and abroad, BBC included. No, the unhinged liberal agenda was never the prevalent mindset but was/is propped up by special interest groups in cities that get the most recognition in the mainstream media that is owned by those same special interest groups with the intention of making people believe "the new normal" is normal. It was a nice try but, failed miserably and those special interest groups are pissed off about that foiled conquest, mad as hell actually. But, they and their "useful idiots" (their word) are not willing to let it go. More pain incoming.

Thank you for your comment.

I don’t see how Tariff on foreign goods would help improve US manufacturing industry if customers don’t buy the goods as too expensive + US companies being unable to sell theirs across the globe due to retaliations from foreign countries + long term negative impacts on US as these countries will find alternative routes. These will result in increased job losses across the US and reputations damages.

The common sense approach would have been to create tax incentives to bring targeted manufacturing capacity back to the US.

Unless I am missing something, is there any sense to Trump’s Tax policies?

USA has a big balance of trade deficit with Canada and Trump likes simple, crude solutions. IMO there's never a simple solution to an economic problem, but politics is all about being seen to do something whether it's effective or not.

Yup,
Trump doesn't care.

He's getting his jollies from being "the guy in charge".
Upshot is that its a wake up call on the reality of trade relationships, and Countries being complacent relying on America "the Great".

In hindsight, it will be a good thing I think?

Becoming more obvious by the week that Trump is a Russian Asset.
Nice to see Europe recognising this and firming up.

Just need to get over these next couple of years till the Mid Terms.

This is now beyond politics and simply insane as you cannot create more manufacturing capacity overnight. Ford, GM and others in the auto industry would need years to redesign their supply chain and create new production facilities.

Politic suicide surely!

I suspect they could take up the slack with their existing facilities - only figure I can find is 140,000 vehicles and parts imported from Canada in 2023

GM sold 6 million vehicles last year so 140K isn't a huge amount by comparison and that 140K includes parts not just completed vehicles.

Then there's Mexico as well - I think both Ford and GM manufacture in Mexico so vehicles made there for export into USA are also now subject to tariff. No idea about the numbers there. Obviously it's an incentive - or more of a stick - to get them to bring that production back home. There will be a lot of unintended consequences I think.

Here are the numbers:
- Total véhicules (cars and light trucks) sales in the US in 2024 was 15.9 million, which included 3 million cars
- 50% of the cars sold in US last year were imported
- GM sold 2.7 million vehicles; Ford sold 2.08 million véhicules
- GM imported over 46% of its car sales, 21% for Ford
- Both GM and Ford source many parts from outside the US, with a significant number from Mexico.
- Some parts included in the car production cross the border multiple times at different stage of the production process.
- Significant number of parts needed for after sales are also imported
- The supply chain process for those car manufacturers is highly complex and intertwined with those in Mexico and Canada, hence will take time to redesign.

- Even vehicles whose parts aren't subject to tariffs and that are assembled in the U.S. could face price hikes, as automakers attempt to spread new costs out across their lineups. While Cox Automotive expects price hikes of between 15%-20%
- Sub- $30,000 compact SUVs and crossovers that are the most popular are almost all foreign-made, with the exception of one or two, so they'd all be subjected to the 25% tariffs."

- 25% tariffs will push the average price of vehicles between $5k and $10k, which may cut US auto sales by 700k in 2025

You have to balance that against potential long term gains though. You get jobs back in USA and your balance of payments improves. Most people don't buy a new car for fun they buy one because the need it (plus fleet sales) - and foreign cars will be even more expensive, so in theory at least, more will buy American.

Can't have your cake and eat it. If you want more stuff made in your own country instead of in countries where labour is cheaper, then you got to pay more for it. No way around that.

I can't help but think there's better ways to do that than tariffs but tariffs is certainly quick and easy.

Tariff maybe quick and easy but it’s definitely not the best way forward, unless you have reached the cliff.

All indicators show that US economy is deteriorating as prices are going up. US is about to have their worse quarter since the Covid pandemic …

Biden’s incentive through the Chips & Science Act was the way to go!

My career taught me that the best and lasting changes to any great businesses are those where people are part of the journey and when you create long & lasting relationships with strategic partners. US is far from being a failing nation, hence drastic measures (I.e Tariffs & Trade war) are completely unnecessary.

Yes - like I said, there's more sophisticated alternatives but that's not the way of Trump.

I don't think it will last long as a policy myself. Face-saving 'deal' will happen down the line - give it six months.

I think everyone is underestimating the Canadians in this, which I think is the daftest of tariffs Trump is imposing on any country, perhaps because of his ambitions to make them part of the US? From what I see on Social Media (must be true, then...) Canada is boycotting American products in their droves - not just Tesla but groceries and other products. In reality though, can anyone boycott US companies without major inconvenience? - I'm not sure in this house we would survive more than a week without an Amazon order or a Netflix show...

Ridicule is all they deserve.
I've zero fucks left to give for those folks than knowingly peddal their BS.

In the world of the Con man, they are the target.
and a lot of them choose to double down rather than admit they made a mistake and critically think about whats happening.

Till it hits them personally of course, I mean, to hell with those "others"... right?

As the poem says:
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'd feel sorry for them, but they aren't stupid and do it deliberately.
Cult Deprogramming is whats needed, but its a hard thing to do when your neck deep in it.

Anyhoo...
Its gonna get worse before it gets better, then people wake up and do something about it, hopefully while they still can.
A fish rots from the head down, and thats whats happening in America.
You cant assume the old norms are going to hold any more.

I mean:
Who in the US voted for Oligarchs like Musk to run the US Government? NOBODY
Why do you think he bought Twitter - with the financial backing of those linked to Russian and Saudi Oligarchs?

Its all part of a plan, these guys dont do things by accident.

But hey...

America was founded by oligarchs, that's nothing new. Money talks bullshit walks.

The majority of voters thought the alternative to Trump was less palatable than Trump. Think about that. They're not all Trump fans by any stretch, but it was a binary choice.

If there had been an intelligent, considered, conservative option (Obama, for example) they would have voted for that instead. But there wasn't.

Insulting people and the choice they made will not make them reconsider, it only increases polarisation. Getting angry never solved any problem but it does make problems a lot more difficult to solve.

Sometimes right is right and wrong is wrong.
IF YOU DONT STAND FOR SOMETHING, YOU WILL FALL FOR EVERYTHING.
And unfortunately they are.

You think of this:
Stating the Election results as a constant is assuming everything was above board and all votes were counted fairly.

Lots of evidence, physical and ancecdotal out there to say it wasn't.
You dont think this lot would try if they thought they would get away with it?
Trump even said he was.

Look at all the voter suppression, gutting of Independant government departments and Political potential opponents, as well as other flagrant attempts to breach the Constitution this Administration is trying.
Its not by accident.

There are always those that keep making excuses for wrongdoing,
and thats how things end up bad.

So when Trump says the 2020 election was rigged against him that's fake news but when he gets elected in '24 that's got to be voter fraud? If you're going to keep denying that there was a big problem with the opposition to Trump then all you can expect in the future is another one - or worse.

Right and wrong is rarely a black and white issue, usually it's just subjective. I've read interviews with ex-Waffen SS officers who were still convinced they were absolutely right up to the day they died. Their wives too.

Of course no-one thinks the Holocaust was right but in their case they just denied it ever happened and saw themselves as fighting for civilisation against the eastern barbarians and they could never understand why the British and Americans wouldn't join them in that.

Everyone is confident they are on the right side of history - it's just a question of perspective. Assuming you have the moral high ground is the worst thing of all - the most terrible atrocities have always been carried out by people who were convinced that what they were doing was morally right. That's how they were able to do such terrible things and still sleep at night.

My point was that there's no evidence 2020 was fixed against Trump and as far as I know there is none showing 2024 was fixed in his favour. This came up before and no evidence was presented then either.

The poem I beleive is about Nazi Germany? As a student of that period I think such comparisons are substantially overwrought. Time may prove me wrong, I suppose, but we'll see.

4. Switch on Sky News to see what fresh hell Team Trump is considering.

Last couple of days it's been all about Prince Andrew bullying allegations. Not interested, I need my fix of car-crash TV... Though there has been a bit about Trump's buddy Conor McGregor, who would like to be Ireland's next president. General consensus among the Irish people seems to be that the man is (and I quote) "a weapons-grade bellend". So there's still a bit of common sense around.

I think the argument is that PBS and NPR are partially funded by the taxpayer and therefore should not be partisan.

Privately owned media has always had the bias of its owner(s) going back to the invention of the printing press.

I watch a lot of shows on PBS as the standard is quite high but with their more recent documentaries their left/liberal bias is very obvious.

The BBC gets attacked for bias by both sides, indicating that they probably get it about right - but the standard of their content has been falling since the 1980s.

PBS is good, watched quite a few biographies of presidents, gives a good overview of different eras, Kennedy/Nixon, Reagan/Bush etc. It's hilarious watching the 2 sides of Israel/Palestine culture war both having a good at the BBC, they literally both think it's a 'mouth piece' for either side, with no question of any leeway for interpretation!

BBC Russia correspondent Steve Rosenberg on X -
'One Russian newspaper today accuses the Trump administration of “administrative insanity, inexperience, immaturity…(of) bragging and arrogance…” Another paper: “On Ukraine talks, Donald’s mood changes as often as the wind.”'

Donald likes to trash talk in fact that's really 95 percent of what he does. Trash talk does have the advantage that it can put the other guy off balance, but if you do it all the time eventually he'll switch off from it and it loses any effectiveness.

All the crazy stuff he says gets reported as though it matters, because he's the POTUS and it's commonly accepted that anything the POTUS says is important. But that can only last so long if there's a continual stream of bullshit. Eventually everyone is going to switch off from it if he continues it at his current rate. Like the nutter in the pub, in the end all the regulars learn to just ignore him.

Yeah, it'll become as predictable as Putin's nuclear threats.

Trump is 100% bullshit through and through, a little rich kid pretending to be a self made man, a failed businessman bought out by stolen Russian cash, and now a Trump meme coin to top off all the bullshit, the most bullshit of things ever created - Crypto currency, a completely valueless ghost currency, so valueless that they have to make out its 'mined' from having 1000s of computers linked up or some such bullshit, 'mining' the crypto.

But then the nutter in the pub trashes the place and the regulars have to cough up more for their beer to pay for the damage.
