daughter did their back garden in it..well my son in law did lol... was expensive but its a great spot for kids to play footy and they can use it for other things like bbbqs etc. no effort really after fitting. the extra b is for byobbb... the extra b is a typo:eyebrows:

What's the lifespan before the UV starts breaking it down?
Most are pretty stable UV wise and will last about 20 years if looked after

from a fiver per square meter. Quite a lot of it round here where people have covered their front yards or forecourts with it. Looks okay, no weeds, no mowing, no watering.
Our local garden centre is doing a deal where if you buy more than 10m2 of Astroturf you get a free garden gnome. But their prices are still astro-gnome-ical. Ok, I can hear you groaning.

I'm going to stick with mowing the grass as all the artificial lawns on offer have a limited life, cannot be recycled and will eventually end up in the oceans. There is far too much plastic on this Earth as it is.
From an ecological pov they are not good that is true.
Have to say if I did have a lawn I wouldn't replace it with that stuff. I did have a small back garden in one place I rented. I let the lawn go wild, it grew to about two feet and got loads of wildflowers, butterflies and that in it.
The cat loved stalking through it, it thought it was hunting antelopes in the veldt.

Actually been warm today here, with no rain at all.
Not 'summer' warm you understand, more like a pleasant day in late spring. Not bad given the form of late.
Tomorrow forecast is for 'sunny showers' AKA it's going to rain all day.
Saturday is a deluge all day, they're not even pretending we'll see any sun. Goes into Sunday, clears up a bit Sunday afternoon.

Well it was such a lovely day today (23C) I thought "sod the lawn, let's go for a walk in the country" - so we did. When we returned around 16:00, the sky was starting to cloud over and look a bit threatening, but no rain came to pass, so I managed to cut the grass after all. :)
Productive days are just the best :) Rained overnight here, but sun has just come out. That won't last.
Spending the day helping my brother (who's just got the all-clear on his 2nd bout of throat cancer) to move house. The house he's bought is a right doer-upper in the most expensive part of Preston. Got to admire his spirit :) I will be having words though about why he's not using a removals firm, the tight git.

15C with a patchy, hazy sky.
I'll be out in the garden later, started sorting out an ancient ex-military wooden trunk/box thing last night, It's been in the family eighty years or more, it was my dad's tool chest, hefty old thing. Superglued some minor splits in the wood last night and clamped them, seems to have done the trick. A bit of epoxy Filler for the battered corners, then a sand down and repaint. That's the morning occupied then! :)

Another dull and boring start to the day, but at least it's not raining. High - maybe - of 17C later.
It's actually been so dull recently that we are experimenting with our heating. It seems that with "normal" weather there is sufficient solar gain to keep the house comfortable, but recently that solar input has been lacking.
We have to fool our system to turn on a small amount of extra heat by pushing the thermostat controls above the actual temperature.
Usually we don't have to do this, and our system is zoned and really relatively complicated, so it is a surprise to see that the dull weather is actually having an effect.
As I hinted - generally a bit of sun in the day will keep the heating completely switched off and it stays comfortable inside, but recently this hasn't been the case.

Going over it with my new detail sander, turned the trunk upside down and the bottom is RAF grey. The old man was in RAF through WW2. Think I'll preserve that bit with clear lacquer :).

Well the tool chest I was doing up did my head in yesterday, literally.
I was leaning forward to paint the interior and the lid fell with the catch clobbering the top of the nut. Blood everywhere, all down my face and even over the specs, got two bumps one with a gash! :eek:
Scalp injuries bleed a lot and being on blood thinners didn't help. Stopped bleeding after a couple of hours and it didn't hurt much, mainly annoying.
That's this week's accident out of the way. Got some ladder work in the next week or so, better be careful! :D

stayed dry here bar the occasional bit of spitting. only 14c tho.
There's not been as much spitting since Punk was in fashion. All this month almost every day there's been some.
Seems to have overtaken the tropical downpours in frequency. The return of proper British weather?

Looks like another day of incessant rain. The slugs and snails seem to like the wet weather, and have been having a right old go at our flowering plants. So we got these slug pellets, which come in a rather fetching blue colour. Now we'll wait and see how the slugs like 'em.
your old coffee grounds will help too.. sprinkle around plants etc. quite good for soil too

A bed of dried grass cuttings around the base of the plant will keep slugs off of it.
When I had an allotment I used that method to stop them eating my strawberries. Along with a net to keep the birds off.

Never heard of that one - I'll put that suggestion as well as Grant's to the garden boss when she decides to get out of her pit. But I do like the colour of these slug pellets - like tiny Subaru Impreza WRXs :)

Just driven up to North Wales from Essex. Sometimes the showers only lasted for less than a minute, but coming along the North Wales coast, the rain was torrential, making driving difficult.
Like a monsoon here, started as soon as the sun went down.

Spent early evening up on mate's roof - I don't like dormers at the best of times, and this one is not coping with the rain. They have a big plastic sheet with half a dozen buckets on it where their bed usually is. I don't know how well my bodge will hold up, but it'll have to do till the rain stops.
back again tomorrow if the rain stops.

Have you found that as you get older, that the back of your hands seem to suffer more cuts and bruises? I have, I wonder if it is just clumsiness/bad luck, or if the skin is just getting thinner. Also I seem to be less sensitive to pain, people around me often notice my injuries before I do :scratch:

Yes, skin is more vulnerable due to age.
As for clumsiness, since the stroke in 2020 it's been worse, but at least I don't wobble on the bike so much lately :). And "what have you done now" is often heard here.
I can't say a bit of pain bothers me much, but having a substantial urinary catheter yanked out last time I was in hospital was pretty memorable! :eek:.

Oil companies certainly have had hidden information - but I'm not sure that their agendas were so hidden.
Basically make a profit and screw [up] the places where the oil and gas comes from - but even that is simplistic.

Looks like we might have a thunderstorm, brooding black clouds on the horizon when I came out of work. Didn't think I'd make it back without a soaking but nothing yet. Gone very dark now though.

But yes there's no doubt if we did have a long dry spell we would also have climate nutters out starting fires.
I want to see that Greta girl go over to China and protest there. Makes sense as they are by far the worst for pollution and emissions.
But she doesn't because they'd chuck her straight into some dungeon and keep her there. Nothing to do with saving the world, all about self-importance.

I want to see that Greta girl go over to China and protest there. Makes sense as they are by far the worst for pollution and emissions.
But she doesn't because they'd chuck her straight into some dungeon and keep her there. Nothing to do with saving the world, all about self-importance.

Had a rain shower earlier but since then been sunny, off and on. Quite warm. I think due mostly to the high humidity.
Yes, it certainly feels hotter than 21C. High humidity always has a debilitating effect on me. :(
16/17c here now... 72% humidity making it a bit sticky tho
freshened up a bit here now, wind is up humidity is down and the sky is almost clear of clouds.

Did mine yesterday as soon as I got home, as it was looking like rain. Stayed dry since then.

Rained all night, and still raining. 90% chance of rain all day. Not a day for jobs, so after a couple of quick phone calls the day is my own :)
Rain off and on all day and a bit nippy in the wind, too.
An Indian summer our only hope now and that's rare.
We have had just one week of summer in June.

Rain for another week at least, we just don't have summers anymore, what a cesspit this country is.
May and June were lovely in Suffolk, too little rain. Only getting what was needed for plants/wildlife at the moment.
I’d rather have this than what is happening south of the jet stream
