The "lawns" have deliberately been left pretty much untouched this year so far, partly as an experiment. I want to see what kinds of plants and creatures will come.

So far it seems that there is now a lot of clover, which I think is good for bees, and there are bee keepers round here who may appreciate that.
Another factor is that there hasn't been much rain lately, apart from the deluge a couple of days/nights ago, so I'm again reluctant to tackle mowing, as looking at the neighbouring gardens that simply seems to dry out the soil, so they end up with a brown mat - almost bare earth.

They haven't complained yet - but I'm pushing it a bit. It's not just that I'm lazy!

back in the day you could get all sort of weird and wonderful cheap booze. Titan lager, Trojan lager.

Trojan was like drain cleaner but you only needed one can and it was only ten bob.

Titan was weaker but there were three types - yellow, green and red. Red was strongest but really nasty. I never worked out the difference between the green and yellow cans. Nowhere seems to sell that stuff anymore.

Anyway that's slumming it. Next stage beyond that is the exciting world of cheap, super-strength ciders. And then, inevitably, on to British sherry.
