went out to go to the supermarket. Surprisingly balmy out, in fact feels warmer outside then inside, so I opened the window when I got back.
Bit of a breeze going, but it's not a cold one. Amazing how it can change so radically in just a few hours.
weather has gone stormy... about 10c and wet n windy..
Rained yesterday and also this morning, so all the snow and ice has disappeared (thank goodness). Also noticeably warmer. :)
light cloud and about 6c..wind has dropped
Not been too bad today, cold but not stupid cold,
Shortest day tomorrow then perpetual darkness starts to recede. 7 more weeks I'll be leaving work and it'll still be daylight. Just.

Dry here, but the rain is on its way. I don't care, I'm done with work until after the New Year. And apart from the usual family obligations I won't be moving more than a few feet from where I'm currently sat.

Gradually improving. Not limping so much now. I go for (hopefully) last dressing change next Thursday, then I can go back to wearing my regular footwear. It's been itching like a bugger under this compression bandage, so I have been taking antihistamines, which seem to help a bit. I told my favourite dressings nurse (yes I do have a favourite) and she gave the leg a good old scratch, which was not necessary but still appreciated :)
She told me to bring some E45 cream for my next visit, which I'm looking forward to :eyebrows: I feel like Michael Gambon in The Singing Detective (I wish!)

Yes I have that as well, and I use it as far down the bandage as i can reach. Works well. Unfortunately much of the itching is unreachable.

yeah i know lol... ive a long applicator which helps but i also get daughter to do it if she is here like this morning... funny how itches are almost always out of reach?
rain here all day. Knocked off now for xmas though not back until 3rd Jan so it can do its worst.
Rained here early afternoon, but only for about an hour. Went out to do some last minute shopping - now I can batten down the hatches and become a recluse until the New Year.

Minus 15C in New York with snow, gales and flooding. Don't even ask about Canada! :eek:
I can never understand why people wish for a white Christmas. OK if you can view the freshly fallen snow from the comfort of a windom in your home, or say, from a train window; the snow covers up all the ugliness and litter of modern life, but otherwise it makes life very difficult.
And then when life gets back to normal, traffic turns the snow into dirty slush, snow on the ground ruins leather shoes for pedestrians, so one is obliged to wear rubber boots, .... . Then it might re-freeze, causing the thawed snow to become ice, making all travel potentially dangerous.
No, leave the snow scenes to the Christmas cards.

Yup, typical Christmas morning. Grey, damp, not too cold. I'm with Barry on the snow thing - total PITA unless you have nowhere to go and nothing to do.

Hovering round zero right now. Snowy frost on ground. Not much wind - so quiet - but doesn't look as though the ground situation will change all day.
Should get slightly warmer in the next few days, but then another cold spell over next weekend - if we believe the weather forecast.
Cloudy with moderate visibility. No sign of sun!

Update from earlier. Now have snow which seems to be settling. Still fairly quiet with little or no wind, but visibility has dropped consderably.
Again - if weather forecast to be believed - should warm up a bit by tomorrow, so most snow should go, but right now looks as though there could be enough for a snowball fight.
Not sure about making a snowman though.
currently 5c and dry but heavy rain is due by 11 and to be on all day.

Given rain for most of the day. Might let up briefly later this afternoon, but it'll be going dark by then. I had said I wouldn't mind a few days of doing nowt, but I'm getting bored now.

You're quite right - I did take a trip over to my stereo about 20 mins ago to switch everything on, and now I have to go back there to put a CD on. But first I need to make myself a posh coffee, which is twenty feet in the opposite direction. This lot may take some time.
raining here. Think I slept too long as woke up feeling drugged. Or maybe someone did drug me in which case - thanks, whoever you are.

Struggling to get above zero here - so snow still on the ground and also visible on the hills.
Supposed to get gradually warmer, and rain most of the afternoon - probably from 2 o'clock and on through the night.
No sign of any sun.

yeah quite mild here, pissing down but can live with that.
No music at my mother's house not unless you make your own. There's a piano and a classical guitar although last time I went to play the piano I discovered that I'd forgotten how.
Passed the time watching incredibly long war films (Longest Day, Battle Of Britain) and old episodes of 'Bangers & Cash.' There's a fantastic new chippy just down the street too so that was a bonus.

Can't beat a proper chippy. There seems to be a trend for "Traditional Fish and Chips" shops that sell kebabs and burgers. With chips that started life in a big polythene bag :( Dished up by young blokes who also do mobile phone repairs in the daytime.

one of the shops around here call them 'golden fries'. thin overcooked frozen chipettes. nasty. it does decent fish n chips etc too tho.
Sounds like those awful thin chips McDonalds sell.

Similar in appearance, but even worse - at least the McDonalds ones have a degree of stiffness. These you could tie into knots. Fortunately these type of shops are easy to identify - even of you don't see the rotating slab of "meat" and the huge pile of takeaway boxes, there are always the photos of their offerings displayed overhead, which are supposed to whet your appetite, but just look to me like something vomited onto the pavement outside.
Theses shops are most prevalent in areas densely populated by students. I worry for our future.

I have a couple of outdoor jobs need doing, but with a two hour fine weather window forecast it wasn't worth starting. Turns out it didn't rain all bloody day. If I was as bad at my job as these forecasters I'd be in all kinds of shit, but I bet they didn't get so much as a smacked bum.
In the olden days it was easy for us to predict - if Michael Fish came on the telly you knew the weather was going to be shit. These days we have to rely on technology, which can't even make the family car reliable, never mind weather predictions.
2nd last day of year and it is pouring and has been for a while. temp went up to 8c. rain is forcast for all day. some parts up here to get serious floods

We are supposed to be experiencing heavy rain, and there is a weather warning for our area. However there is no rain, and I'm hoping that the ice which was absolutely lethal last night when I tried to put the bin out has now gone.
I could hardly stand at all but managed to use the bin as a support to cross the ice field, and then hang on to a tree in order to get it down the slope and round the corner to the pickup point. Basically I slid the bin, rather than wheeled it - which would - for me at any rate - have been likely to deposit me on the ground. My normal route in difficult times would have been to use the neighbour's fence to help me down a few feet, and then to a relatively flat part, but that looked even more hazardous having completely filled with water turned to ice.
You could use salt to melt the ice on the driveway. I've done that in the past - although I only have to get the bin from the forecourt to the pavement it can still be a dangerous endeavour.
In the summer I use the salt to stop weeds growing through the flags. A big tub of salt is only a couple of quid.

In the summer I use the salt to stop weeds growing through the flags. A big tub of salt is only a couple of quid.Just getting to the part which is most lethal to apply the salt and grit would be hazardous.
I have bags of rock salt for use on the flatter areas, but the slope at the end of the neighbour's drive is a major problem, and can go from manageable (merely wet) to treacherous in a matter of a few hours.
If the weather gets really bad I don't bother to put any bins out, but wait for the next time - usually 2 weeks later.
I perhaps should have done that this last time, but I got about 80% of the way to the kerb side location, and didn't want to turn back. It was, however, touch and go whether I was going to fall over, and there were several "dynamic" moments.

Today it actually looks pleasant - some sun, shadows and blue skies. It is cold - with frosting on the ground - probably around -2 to 1 C, but no wind
Last night the weather was disgusting - lashings of rain and high winds - but now it's quiet again.

good to hear.. was some flooding here in the county too but its subsided now apparently
after the rain this morning stopped we haven't really had any weather for the rest of the day.

Went out this aftenoon, and the weather worsened. Temperatures around -1 to +1 C are a pain, with either slush or ice making it hard to walk safely. Driving back was also a bit of a challenge, with part of the route back snowing hard, so driving into falling snow in the dark really quite difficult.
