The link you supplied also shows the true way of judging a club's success, and thus where it exists in terms of its true stature in world football.

You cannot judge the reputation of a club soley, or even mainly, on its current status or the recent results it has achieved - there is much more to it than that! :cool:

Not a smaller team at the time. Jack Walker was possibly the first serious millionaire who proved you could buy the title. I think most football fans let him off as he was a lifelong Rovers fan and just wanted to see them top of the pile.

In context they were spending the sort of money Chelsea did - all relative now of course but at the time they were seriously spending.

Now when Blackburn won the title it was a certain Scot managing them.
The same Scot is now in charge at Anfield.
He's still got a tall order, sorting out the ineptitude of two of the three previous managers (you can't blame Roy Hodgson for the crap that went on before his tenure), but I do think that Liverpool are going to be scrapping it out for honours come the business end of the season.

It'll be interesting if the top three teams at the end of the season come from the Northwest of England.

The problem with English football at the moment is the last 20 years and the Premiership. Youngsters and people jumping on the bandwagon seem to forget football has existed for longer than 20 years.

Listening to Talksport on the way to work this morning and they were debating the perilous state of Scottish football, and that goes back the big two buying in the talent rather than bring young local talent through over the last 20 years. You do wonder if the money in English football also decides to disappear what state a lot of the Premiership clubs, and those recently relegated, would be in.

Not totally convinced by Liverpool just yet, Suarez does look class but he's had a very long season with the Copa America and people were saying he tired on Saturday.

I also think that with Carroll up front and the likes of downing then Liverpool's play could become a little one dimensional when needed. Of course that would change when Gerrard gets back to playing.

They also need a decent centre half as well as they look short in cover in that area.

The Scot in question has very much gone back to basics in his purchases, excepting suarez, he has paid, a little over the odds, in getting established British Premiership players.

Of course O'Neill did that with us and has subsequently left us in a little bit of a financial mess.

I do think it'll be a Manchester 1-2 though and I still think it may be the red side but if City get those forwards playing, and Silva is a joy to watch and in Kompany they have the best centre half in the league, imo, then maybe they could be celebrating come May.
