My reaction as well - not because of taste (I don't like white chocolate), but of my boycott of all Nestlé products due to their appalling business practice in Africa.
they are good and there aint much white choc.
the amount of food products you cant get in scotland now is worrying. especialy fresh stuff as brexit has f-ed it all up.
No surprise there, as the lorry drivers are getting fed up with all the checks now carried out at the UK and EU borders. And since we made all the EU residents living here persona non grata, those that drove HGVs have returned home, leaving the UK with an acute shortage of drivers.
But don't worry - according to Rees-Mogg, everything will be fine in about 50 years.

Still 31 degrees. Lord knows how uncomfortable it will be tonight.

We just don't get happy mediums anymore... A couple of weeks ago the weather was shit, and no warmer than about 18C, now we're getting over 30C!
What's wrong with 22/23C? Just nice... No, it's either 'all or nothing':doh:;)

I sort of got some sporadic sleep. Woke several times though. As I've said before, it's only April and September that suit me (as a rule), the rest of the year the weather is rubbish. I wonder if I can get that nice Mr. Bezos to fund my move to a more suitable climate, he can afford it :).

According to the Accuweather site, it's 27C here. My outside thermometer (in the shade) is showing between 32 and 33 degrees. It's too hot!
about 21c here i think. one site says 19c but its warmer than that imo
28c here but we have a 30% chance of rain in the next couple of hours.
That will be a surprise if it happens as there's barely a cloud in the sky right now.
Forecast is for temperatures to plunge quite dramatically by Saturday, down to 19c.

Just getting some big spots of rain but they're few and far between (at the moment).
Still nice and warm with a breeze here, might go play golf now rather than Saturday...

It never materialised here either. It was only a 30% chance but it never even remotely looked like it was going to rain.
In fact I don't ever think I've seen a day where it looked less likely that there would be rain. At least not round here anyway.

The mutt makes a fuss if walkies are not on the dot. It's less than ten minutes a time and she seems not bothered by walking when it's hot.

Well it's a little cooler now.
Before it was just too hot to do anything. Too hot to eat, too hot to drink, too hot to read or watch TV, too hot to think or do the crossword, too hot to sleep or make love - and too hot to enjoy listening to music!
About the only thing that was comfortable was to have a cool shower or bath.

The temperature is down to a more manageable 27C and will probably go a bit lower, so a less uncomfortable night hopefully.
The sky is largely clear, but in the distance I can see huge towering clouds and they're heading this way, so maybe some thunder and rain later.

You have reminded me of my biology teacher at secondary school (scary but wonderful woman) - fifty years ago but still clear in my memory
I ran in to her lesson, a little late, after playing football at break time.
I apologised for being late and for being rather sweaty
Mrs Woolens replied:
"Animals sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow"
funny; but she is one the few teachers that I respected and I still remember many of the things she said (even used some of them in my own science lessons :whistle:)

No way would my wife (or really either of us) sleep with the front or back door open. She certainly wouldn't feel safe. When I've been sleeping out in the backyard for the last few nights, because of the heat, I always lock the doors and keep the keys with me.
In any case, I'm looking forward to some rain and lower temperatures at the weekend. This heat is just getting a bit too much now, as our south-facing house, built from thick sandstone bricks, baking in the sun all day, and upstairs bedrooms, which subsequently become almost akin to walking into a sauna, simply aren't designed for this weather!

Yes it worked quite well so I've substituted the holding band and wire tie to a couple of reusable cable ties and a fresh cold pack.

No such luck here earlier.... Solid blue skies all day, with searing heat and no respite from the sun until around 9pm. Highest temp peaked at just under 33C, which is fucking ridiculous for North Wales!:doh:
Temp inside our bedroom now is just a shade under 30C, downstairs is 27.5C. Outdoors, where I am, is rather more manageable 21C! Hopefully this will be my last night sleeping under the stars lol, as it's due to be much cooler tomorrow.
Trouble is, it'll take 2 days for the house to cool down!:rolleyes:
Let's hope that this is the end of the heatwave.

It's grey and boring here so far - which I find depressing - but I think it'll brighten up later. It was pretty hot and sunny yesterday. Still virtually no rain - so garden watering a significant exercise.
Lol - don't get me wrong. I'd prefer blue skies, to grey skies, but the vast reduction in temperature (although not yet humidity) is extremely welcome!:)
I don't think people who don't suffer in extreme heat, especially what we had here yesterday, quite appreciate how much those who do (such as me), especially if (like me) you 'run hot', which essentially means, outside of extreme cold temperatures, you're generally never cold, and so your body temperature 'ticks over' at a higher average level than others.
At almost any time of the year, therefore, my hands are always nice and warm, even in the middle of winter, and so consequently I don't need to 'wrap up' the same as others, or keep rooms in the house heated to the same degree.
However, this means that when the weather gets really hot, you feel it more/suffer more than others, as you're coming from a warmer starting point, and so much more prone to overheating, becoming lethargic, dehydrated and all that goes with being WAY too hot, such as sweating profusely and never feeling clean!:rolleyes:
Yesterday, even making myself a cup of coffee (grinding the beans, frothing the milk, etc), which normally would pass without incident, had me dripping with sweat in seconds - and that was with next to no clothes on! It's very uncomfortable and unpleasant - plus the lounge has been in darkness for days (making it rather dreary), to keep the sun (and heat) out, with the air-cooler on 24/7, in an attempt to keep temps down to some sort of acceptable level.
So to no longer have to do any of that, including sleeping outside at night to stay cool, you can appreciate why I'm rather glad not to see the sun today!:cool:

a bit cooler today so far. i expect sun to burn off the cover shortly tho, as it did yesterday. slept fairly well too. put ceiling fan on winter mode and i think it was better overall
a bit warmer now so cooling gadget is out chilling air nicely:D 25c in livingroom and 65% humidity
middle of night it got cooler and no need for fan or too many windows. cooler again now. 14c and cloudy. to warm up a bit later

Yes, that last bit is rather disappointing, *BUT* for the first time in nearly a week, I managed to sleep indoors (with the help of the air-cooler) and get a full night's sleep!! :carrot: Just up, after having gone to bed at 10.30pm, so making up for some of the sleep I've lost recently.
Anyway, it's a gorgeous 17C, perfectly pleasant, and for a change, the air is fresh!:)

Maybe you have a huge garden. I have taken to filling water butts with a hosepipe, and then also filling watering cans similarly.
Splashing water round the raspberries looks as though it's going to pay off this year.
Another dullish day - so far - but mostly likely it's going to turn sunny and hot again, as it has done in many days recently.
I don't like the dull starts - but I suppose that having seen these before and knowing (or hoping) that things will brighten up later - is encouraging.
It's really miserable when it starts dull, and stays that way for the next day, or two, or three....

It is rather therapeutic, especially seeing the results of flowers and produce growing, but I prefer doing it at sensible times of the day, instead of either 7am or 9pm, in order to avoid the sweltering heat of the sun!

Not huge, but pretty big. However, Del's been planting all sorts of veg recently, in our quest to become largely self-sufficient by this time next year (once everything planted has matured), and most of it needs plenty of water, especially as it's been so hot here recently.
We've got various types of corn on the cob/baby corn growing, different varieties of courgettes, leaks, peas, broad beans, borlotti beans, French beans, artichokes, kale, heritage carrots, various squashes, and all sorts of other stuff, not to mention two polytunnels full of different varieties of lettuce leaves, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, chillies, sallsify, gherkins and parsnips. plus too many herbs to mention!
And it all takes looking after, including watering directly at the roots, so 'splashing' or water butts don't really work.
However, it's very satisfying seeing all the stuff grow, and most of all, eating it (for free), as it tastes *SO* much better than anything bought in a supermarket! Del just goes out to the garden every day and cooks what's grown and ready to eat that day, and it's on your plate, fresher than fresh, in no time!

Yup, and that's another reason why I prefer it cooler. It's quite simple: extreme heat (such as 30C+ temps) and high humidity (i.e. 80%+) = SHITE air quality! And you can't really BREATHE properly. Yes, air gets in, but it's so stuffy and simply not the same.
Air quality is a massively important thing for me (and your well being in general), which is why I hate big towns and cities, where it's often so poor. It's also why I simply cannot sleep in a small, stuffy upstairs bedroom, which is 30C, as there's no air quality to speak of!
At least when I'm sleeping outside at night, I'm breathing in fresh air, and so despite not being as comfortable as I would be sleeping on a proper bed, I'm able to get to sleep, not tossing and turning, dripping in sweat, and getting nowhere...:rolleyes:

Lol - I don't think I've felt cold since January!:D Duvet?:wowzer: We've been sleeping naked on top of the bed [zero duvets or covers] for the last few months, and it's still too bloody hot!

It is rather therapeutic, especially seeing the results of flowers and produce growing, but I prefer doing it at sensible times of the day, instead of either 7am or 9pm, in order to avoid the sweltering heat of the sun!
Not huge, but pretty big. However, Del's been planting all sorts of veg recently, in our quest to become largely self-sufficient by this time next year (once everything planted has matured), and most of it needs plenty of water, especially as it's been so hot here recently.
We've got various types of corn on the cob/baby corn growing, different varieties of courgettes, leaks, peas, broad beans, borlotti beans, French beans, artichokes, kale, heritage carrots, various squashes, and all sorts of other stuff, not to mention two polytunnels full of different varieties of lettuce leaves, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, chillies, sallsify, gherkins and parsnips. plus too many herbs to mention!
And it all takes looking after, including watering directly at the roots, so 'splashing' or water butts don't really work.
However, it's very satisfying seeing all the stuff grow, and most of all, eating it (for free), as it tastes *SO* much better than anything bought in a supermarket! Del just goes out to the garden every day and cooks what's grown and ready to eat that day, and it's on your plate, fresher than fresh, in no time!
You can't really beat that, can you?:)

Yeah mate, that defo won't help. The air quality is pretty good here, as we don't get much traffic and are surrounded mainly by hills and sheep! So when air quality notably deteriorates, you feel it right away and suffer accordingly - and I hate it!
That's also why I prefer holidays in the mountains, as apposed to the beach:) In that respect, the air quality up in, say, the Austrian alps, is just stunning. It's SO fresh, it almost cuts your lungs!

fairly good air here all year; we are relatively high up and only one main road about 30/40 yds away i guess which can be fairly busy. and a motorway about a mile away but a little lower. some light engineering etc around but nothing smelly. Used to have an abattoir just along rd and when they were draining bloods etc it stank(they were always getting fined)... fortunately its knocked down now or in process of. its not been used for a good few years.

However, I *do* live well away from any major cities/gross urbanisation, mass commercialism and consumerism - ALL of which affords me the lifestyle I enjoy, regardless of how much money I have to spend...
And the above BIG positives, are the reason why I can shop locally at small, privately owned family businesses and farm shops, not just soulless supermarkets, why numerous bank branches are still open, record shops, great cafes, pubs and restaurants, plus a thriving Portuguese and Polish community, bringing their own brands of food culture with them, and why I can fill up my car at an empty petrol station at most times of the day, among many other simple but priceless pleasures.
It's essentially because here we're largely divorced from the worst effects of today's rat race, and so can still enjoy many aspects of life, as it once was, when people had TIME to do the things they enjoyed. Firstly, in terms of the Romanian influence, have they opened up some nice restaurants or delis, selling authentic food and drink from their country, or is it simply in the sense of them running those rather grim 'minimarts'/corner shops, selling mostly cheap cack for chavs? Or is that solely an Asian thing?
If it's the latter, then that's not an asset or, IMO desirable, whereas it's quite different here with the influence of the Polish and Portuguese.
Secondly, I can imagine someone coming from Cardiff saying that about Stoke. However, I can assure you that Stoke feels very much like a 'big city' (especially the traffic levels) when you come from Wrexham!:D
When I come to visit you, the traffic congestion (and overall level of busyness/levels pf people milling around), in comparison with what I'm used to, is the first thing that hits me.
Also, I wouldn't thank you to live in Cardiff really any more than I'd do you for London. South Wales is like a different country from North Wales, mainly due to the effect of the proliferation of cities and very large towns in close proximity to each other, such as Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Merthyr Tydfil.
Wrexham is the only place of any sort of decent size in the whole of North Wales, where there are more sheep than people, lol! And that suits me just fine. If I were going to live in South Wales, it would be in somewhere like Caerphilly, or preferably Llanelli or Barry - well away from the great unwashed and the ravages of life in the 21st century!:cool:

The bread thing will be a DEFO. Europeans simply won't eat pan-loaf Brit-mush, so there will be a bread section, selling all different types of fresh bread and rolls. I'd put money on it - but you'll have to go early when the baking is done!

Lol, that's madness!:D Totally different world, mate. The only 'fires' I experienced was either the one in our lounge (coal fire) or the BBQ my dad was lighting in the garden to cook the steaks!;)
When I said 'quiet suburb', what I really meant was quiet middle-class suburb. You know I hate labels, but I guess where I lived back then would've been classified as such, ditto the two other places where I lived (in Glasgow and Paisley) before moving to Wrexham.

The best part of two hours of my days recently have been spent watering the garden - another reason why I don't 'worship' the sun!;)

Gardening is something I happily leave to Ursula. I enjoy appreciating the results but I have no interest in gardening beyond mowing the lawns and keeping the hedges neat. And I’ll be honest - I’m still tempted to get a gardener to do that as it’s only my OCD that forces me to do it , plus a typical engineer’s love of big petrol-powered tools! :)
As to the weather down here today, we had some mizzle this morning but this afternoon on the golf course was 23 degrees and sunny so very happy with that! Sadly it didn’t improve my round…
tbh i wasnt so keen on gardening as in my greenhouse, where i could spend all day in if i got chance. :D quite liked cutting grass and hedges too.. my bro had a tractor with grass cutter and a hedge cutter attatchment too, and a small tractor grasscutter as well. i mean, ...such fun

I have to splash water on the raspberries, since last year I put up netting to keep the birds off. Arguably better would have been to put in a soaker hose thing along at ground level, though I've not always had much success with irrigation systems. It helps if you don't employ a gardener (otherwise rather helpful ...) who puts forks and spades though various pipes ....
Still now we don't have a gardener any more - so have to do it all ourselves.
Re taste - yes - can be much better, though we're not going to put Tesco or Sainsbury's out of business.
Lol, the gardener from hell... We've never had a gardener, but employed folks to do some of the hard graft, such as when the summerhouse was built, and cutting down some of the rather large trees we have running around the perimeter of our garden! We've also got some raspberry trees, but the birds seem to leave them alone, and they get regular watering along with everything else.
We've also got a small amount of strawberries, which the birds (and other things) will eat, but we use nets and keep an eye on them.
By next year, we won't need to go anywhere, bar out to the garden or into our polytunnels, for any of our veg (or tomatoes). Raised beds will be getting done, and then we'll have cauli, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, potatoes, etc. As I said, our focus is on being largely self-sufficient by next year, when we'll hopefully also have some chickens!:)

As for gunfights - the closest we ever got was in a railway station in Paris, when gendarmes rushed out chasing ... well .... one presumes .... some bad guys. I have seen cars on fire though - accidents I assume. A friend of mine had a car burn out as a petrol pipe became disconnected. Nothing we could do to stop it when the flames started.

I’m not sure where you got that idea from! We eat at least one portion of veg every day and I take various fruits with me for lunch at work as well. Although I am a big fan of many hideous foodstuffs that are horribly bad for you, our basic day to day diet is very healthy - plenty of veg, fish and lean meat.

Going to give it a try tomorrow. Can't decide whether to go Polish or Rumanian. The Polish deli is a bit bigger so might try that.

I have little experience of the latter, but it could be great. However, I can thoroughly recommend Polish bread (and many other things Polish). Will be interesting to see what you think:)

We eat at least one portion of veg every day and I take various fruits with me for lunch at work as well. Although I am a big fan of many hideous foodstuffs that are horribly bad for you, our basic day to day diet is very healthy - plenty of veg, fish and lean meat.

A bit muggy here, though the sun is coming out now.
There were a few drops of rain yesterday - but really not very many. There might be more rain here later on - difficult to say right now.
A modicum of garden tidying is in order, and putting tools away etc., in case things get more problematic in the next few days.
Latest development is a compost bin, so that I don't need to go down to the tip with small amounts of garden waste.
I guess the bigger stuff will still have to be collected and driven to the dump.
Hazy, 19c, feels a bit close. Maybe rain later, thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow although it's rare they are right about that.
18c now... up to amber for thundersorms from 5pm on.

That was some mad rain this afternoon, three drops would fill a cup. I expect there will be some flash floods on the news.

Pouring with rain here today - first time we've seen rain for quite a time. Supposed to be most of the day. Looks as though that might be the case. No hills in sight.
much cooler here. 13c.. cloudy which wont lift to my mind so shouldnt get too much warmer. humidity in house at 62%
Quite a pleasant start to the day. Warm, if a bit humid, so I took the dog for a walk to the local reservoir only for it to start pissing down once we got there.
Fifteen minute walk home in the rain (no waterproofs) and I really enjoyed it.
isn't there a song about walking in the rain with the one you love? :)
Finally had the thunder, lightning and torrential rain. Only lasted 10 minutes though.

Rain has kept up - and visibility not so good this morning - though I've known worse. It actually got warmer and sunnier yesterday afternoon - which was not my interpretation of the weather forecast.
What'll happen today? Who knows? If it's like yesterday it might be pleasant enough, otherwise it'll be on the grim side.
cloudy but dry. 15c and breezy. feels slightly cold actually.

18c with a 'feels like' of 14c - so yes it's chilly. I actually asked the youth in the shop if he thought it had gone cold, to check it wasn't just me, and he agreed it had.

You see, it's conversations like this that demonstrate why you like (and can handle) the heat much more than me, not because we live in different areas, but because I 'run hot', and you probably do the opposite.
In that respect, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'tick over' level of my body temp is several degrees higher than yours, which is why despite us being similar ages, you feel the cold much more :)
That, and with greatest respect, you're a bit too skinny for your own good, so have little 'insulation'. Perhaps smoking contributes to it too, I dunno?

Lol... No skinny isn't good, mate. HEALTHY is! I.E being the ideal weight for your height, which I suspect few us here are.
The reason why you don't see many fat old people is because you eat much less when you're older (due to a suppressed appetite) and also lose muscle mass, simply due to the effects of old age. I've seen it in my dad, who thankfully still eats like a horse, but isn't fat in any way!:cool:

A deluge of rain overnight, so good for the garden and produce! Currently grey, 14C and 'cool', which will be the theme now for quite a while.

Going to be very interesting this morning - seems to be high winds at cloud level, so in the last few hours we have had heavy rain, still and cloudy, bit of sun looks like another rain cloud coming in. Quite wonderful watching the clouds flying over.

There's a reason why the most interesting (and often breathtaking) pictures photographers take of landscapes are of pretty much ANYTHING other than boring beaches on hot summer days!
That's why we LOVE snowy scenes so much, as 'winter wonderlands' can look simply spectacular! Or even the gorgeous rich, russet hues of trees during autumn, which is probably my favourite season:)
All calm here, though. Just a hazy bluey/grey sky, a gentle breeze, and now 15C.

Dull here today, though looked at the forecast and limited chance of rain. Not now supposed to be much rain after today for a little while - but not much sun either.
I suppose that could be useful - maybe mow the back lawn or set my robot machine on to it.

Only weather that I'm not keen on is "dull and floor to ceiling grey" :)
Out walking with dog in wet weather can be great - as long as I'm in appropriate clothing (shorts and walking boots as I hate wet trousers clinging to my legs). The scents can be marvellous.
I grew up in Hertfordshire, but have now spent the most of my life in Suffolk. I remember driving on the A1 through Hertfordshire (near Welwyn Garden City) a few years ago when there was a sudden heavy downpour. The scents which came through the car vents just took me back to my youth - I had to drive for a short way with my window down, just to fully appreciate it.
I think heavy rain kicks up particular soil and microorganisms which are unique to different areas - may just be fanciful thinking though :)
But, yes Marco, one of the great things about the UK is the range of weather types.
