New month same weather....so far
Beautiful weather here: quite warm with hazy sunshine. :) The weather report says things could change for the worse as the day wears on.
Quite different from yesterday which was surprisingly cold, with occasional, but brief, light rain! :doh:
yes, it is a roaster here too(by scottish standards anyway) certainly over 20c i think.

Been a beautiful here all day, currently 21C, and just about to enjoy dinner al fresco (Del's homemade gnocchi with homemade fresh tomato and basil sauce), washed down with a nice Chianti DOCG Riserva!:cheers:

True, and the Lake District is a beautiful place regardless of the weather or the season.
Raining here, been going most of the night I think. Did have a good kip though, slept right through.
It rained overnight - so all the bootsales around here have been called off.

very humid here. in high 80's and to go to high 90's.. rain, and maybe hail this afternoon.. thunder tomorrow. hoping the cover on my scooter does keep it dry.

Just checked and we've got a 60% chance of a thunderstorm at 1600 hrs. Excellent. Bet it doesn't happen.

Thunder and torrential rain at about four - meant that I stayed at the pub (under cover) a bit longer. Cleared up nicely and a very pleasant cycle home in the sun.
Nothing at 1600 here but now there is some thunder in the distance.

Turned out to a beautiful sunny evening; warm, blue skies, fresh air and very green.i took puppy for a short walk and no one was out (football I guess) absolutely delightful.
Dull, overcast and dreary here, but dry. Overnight rain caused all the boot sales to be cancelled - so we did a charity shop run instead; bought 20 CDs.
Cleared up around lunchtime, and now it's a fine evening.
Hope I can cut the grass tomorrow. :rolleyes:

Thunder/ lightning and rain
Lucky! We got nothing but a few distant rumbles yesterday despite the prediction. Today they are going for 1900 for thunderstorm time, we'll see how that works out.
Going to rain heavy all night too so we could see the flood at new heights. Not seen it for ages but it's back and already extensive from all the rain this morning.

Had to negotiate the flood at lunchtime, it's almost a foot deep by the kerbs. When people drive through it the water splashes right up onto the buildings, and that's when they're trying to avoid the worst of it, as opposed to actually trying to drench a pedestrian.
You've got to be real careful when passing it as it would be like getting a bucket of cold, dirty water chucked over you. Check all 5 directions and then leg it when it's clear.
Stopped raining here about 10am and has been quite sunny since!:)

I looked it up too - the meaning I found was a cold sea mist coming into East Scotland and NE England. I can't use that down here, no one would have a clue what I'm on about. Which is a shame. Us oldies could do with our own language to flummox the young 'uns, God knows they have their own language these days.

Lol... You're not wrong in what you're saying, but I look (and certainly feel) at least 10 years younger. Honestly, when no-one knows my age, I don't have a problem passing for my early to mid 40s, indeed most of my friends are around that age, some are younger in their 30s. I see some guys my age who just look and act like old men - fuck that!:nono:
I don't 'think' like a 55-year old either, am fit and healthy (don't have much grey hair yet, well what's left isn't lol, or need glasses), and just generally don't feel old/have loads of energy and don't tire easily. Trust me, looking after a demanding princess keeps you on your toes! I don't hang around much with guys my age either. As I said, it helps having a much younger wife, who has friends much younger again than her, all of which helps keep you young!:D
When I showed you that pic of my dad (who at the time was 86), you thought he was 55!:eyebrows: Remember? It's in the genes, mate. I'll 'embrace the oldness' when I FEEL old, and hopefully that's still a long time away yet - maybe when I'm 70;)

Lol... Hearing aids are supposed to be great (and rather discrete) these days, old chap! I didn't say I was a youngster, but I'm defo young for my age, both in looks and in terms of outlook.
Maybe it's with not having kids, thus being able to focus solely on looking after myself (and Del)? Retiring early/low-levels of daily stress/feeling genuinely contented/fulfilled with life [inner well-being], getting plenty of sleep regularly (lol) + exercise, and a healthy diet - who knows?:D
And how do you know what my mates have or haven't been doing? I've got two Welsh lads coming round tonight to watch Denmark cuff England - and the beers are in to celebrate!:lol:;)

Most weedkillers are Glyphosate based, so it makes little odds which is used. I find it effective.
And if moss is a problem, cheap iron sulphate kills it, in lawns or on paths and paving. It won't hurt grass.

I've never seen any power tools at car boots good enough to take a punt on. I'm quite picky in that respect, and don't mind paying through the nose for the right ones. They pay my wages, and can mean the the difference between a good job and a so-so one :)
Got 9 o'clock mass to go to, mate, and the princess takes time to get ready in all her Sunday best, not to mention I have to make her breakfast before we go - indeed, just off now!:)

Yesterday I flew back from a lads' golfing weekend on Bute, where we'd had blue skies, sunshine and glorious warmth since Friday.
I landed back in Southampton in the middle of Hurricane Herbert and returned home to find water dripping through the kitchen ceiling, the patio 2 inches deep in water and huge puddles on the lawn and the path in the back garden that we've never seen before in the 9 years of being in the house. To top it all, the septic tank was full to the brim and the soakaway is obviously completely overrun with water, so all the drains are backed up.
I'm going back to Scotland... :(

The bedrooms are significantly warmer than downstairs, and it's the opposite in the winter. House built in 1901, and has no insulation. Also it's in the middle of a very long terrace which is angled so it gets the minimum possible amount of direct sunlight on the walls. When you walk inside on a baking hot day it feels like there is aircon running.
Currently 21c in the living room at 0630 - the sun is already out and blazing so might beat the record again today.

No don't. You know how this works, as soon as it arrives the heatwave will end. At least give us a few days of it.
Lol, well he'll have it for next year then, and besides, it's effective even outwith of heatwaves, simply for bringing down room temperatures to more acceptable levels.
In that respect, we've been using ours almost constantly since we got it, as we like our bedroom as close as possible to our ideal of 16C. The Evapolar reduces temps by 3C, and that still makes a difference, with things feeling more comfortable, when it's 19C or 20C in the room, as opposed to 24/25C, as it's been recently.

First time I flew from London to Dubai, the shock of leaving an air-con'd plane to walk down the steps to the tarmac (it was before the widescale use of air bridges) was something that I will always remember - you felt like you needed a knife to cut through the air! :doh:

Aside from anything else, it's unhealthy and also ageing, and I just find it very uncomfortable. For me, comfortable is when it's warm enough to sit outside in a t-shirt and shorts and not feel cold, but not be sweating either, preferably accompanied by a gentle cool breeze.
However, stepping outside your house into searing heat, and where you struggle to stay cool/are sapped of energy, and where it also affects your sleep at night is not heaven (or a holiday), but hell!

Not a hint of cheap foreign labour in sight, which is a pet hate of mine, and for me also often reflects badly on the establishment concerned, as the cost-cutting invariably extends into other areas, such as the quality of food, and sometimes cleanliness.

We lived in a hot part of California. I couldn't believe it's actually possible to shiver at 20 degrees C, but it is. We went into a restaurant one night - outside temperature probably around 35-50 degrees C. The restaurants are often a bit cooler than outside during the hottest parts of the day. When we came out the outside temperature had plummeted around 20 degrees C, and my teeth didn't stop chatterig and I couldn't stop shivering for around 5 minutes.
When we enentually returned to England - in the summer - we had the heating full on, and wore jackets and pullovers, while all our friends were in T shirts and shorts.
Some while later we moved to Sweden, where we had temperatures of -30 degrees C overnight sometimes, and I once walked to work in a termperature of around -20 degrees C. Cold temperatures are probably a bit easier to deal with than very hot ones, but very cold temperatures are really miserable and can be dangerous.

I completely agree, and nothing against foreigners, but in a small Welsh country pub (or hotel) I much prefer being served by, not just Welsh people, but those from the same village or town that the pub (or hotel) is in. It just improves the experience for me, but these days rarely happens:)
By the same token, I wouldn't want to be served by a Brit (or any other foreigner), say, in France, but outwith of large towns and cities I've never experienced that, or in Italy, where 99% of the time you're served by Italians or French people respectively.

For me, if you're well travelled and have experienced many different cultures and settings, you're generally always a more 'rounded ' person. I also get you, in terms of the acclimatisation thing. I still wouldn't want to live in somewhere like California, though. Not really my kind of place - Sweden, yes!:)
I've only ever lived in the UK and holidayed in various parts of Europe, but when things get better again, Covid wise, we intend to address that :cool:

ah yes.. its a bit pricy at moment mate. i will consider one in future if they have improved since i last had one of those things years ago. one issue is i struggle to move things around as well so filling it with water etc is not easy

I got mine last autumn when they were cheap. It's very light and strictly a one person unit, easy to cart about and fill though. You'd not cool a room much with it, but it's fine for just sitting in front of.

33 degrees again. So much for the 'cooler day' we were promised.
Just a shade under 28C here, and shweaty boz time... Wish I could wear a skimpy little bikini, like Del, to stay cool!:stalks::D
And she's NOT going out to the park later, to play on the swings, in *THAT*!:nono: Go on, as her unky, you tell her!!:lol:;)

It's over 30C here. Just had a very frustrating visit to London Heathrow to sort out a problem: whilst there (for about an hour and a half) had to wear a mask, which did nothing to improve the experience.
Now I'm home and sat out on the terrace enjoying a Magnum choc-ice; something I've not eaten for a long time. :)

Without comparing weights I can't confirm, but they do look a little smaller. I think the 'area' is the same, but they are not as thick. Certainly they take less time to eat!

My reaction as well - not because of taste (I don't like white chocolate), but of my boycott of all Nestlé products due to their appalling business practice in Africa.
And they ruined all the Rowntree's products when they took them over, took all the cocoa out of the chocolate; now it's just vegetable fat and sugar. Yack.
