Anita's son (who works with me these days) has been pecking my head about reinstating our tradition of going for a cold beer on a Friday afternoon after work. It's a tradition that started last July and lasted for four weeks before the restrictions returned.

So we went to a pub, and sat outside in the wind, hailstones which turned to rain and thunder/lightning, trying to shelter under a parasol which was too bloody small for the table. Wet arse with your pint sir?

In spite of the weather all the tables were occupied. Beer at all costs is the English way :)

Exactly the same as me. Even if we go to a pub for food I normally just have a soft drink these days. A single cold beer on a hot day I like, but cold beer on a cold day is as appealing as sitting in a puddle. And I was doing both :(

8C, bright & sunny. Looks like a nice day, but could get a shower according to forecast.

I'll be taking Disgusto the dog out for a drag around the green soon.

Cold here too but very bright and sunny. Temps in single figures all week according to the forecast. No warmer than it was for most of January, and it's the first week of May. What a rip-off.

looking at next week, its to get steadily wetter...yuk

Often, there's a small heatwave about the third week of May. No mention of anything like it forecast yet.

:D Italian is he? You know, Mrs. P never has a nice word to say about our cat, says things like if it ever shit in the house she would drop kick it over the fence. But I've heard her talking to the cat when she thinks on one can hear :) Just sayin'

our tom cat was like that. Other cats would come in through the cat door and eat the food, and he would be kipping on top of the boiler and ignore them.

But if you walked in the kitchen he would pretend to suddenly notice them and would then jump down and chase them out. My mother would say to him 'You're fooling no-one!'.

It all sounds diet-related - you're not trying to turn it vegan are you? I imagine that would piss most dogs off, hence the biting

Wet, wet wet this morning

03-05-2021, 10:30
The sky is beginning to look ominous and rain is forecast, so I'd better take Disgusto the dog out for a drag around the block. It found something unspeakable to eat when I took it out yesterday, god knows what it was, but I valued my fingers too much to try and retrieve it. I wouldn't mind if the brute walked properly on its lead, but it doesn't understand that it's supposed to progress ahead rather than every other direction.

We're going from rain to bright sun then back to rain.

Had a right pain in the arse of a day, went to the ATM and it ate my card. 5 working days for a new one and I've got £15 to last me.

Going to have to take my jar of pennies to the machine in the supermarket and cash them in. If they still have the machine, not been in the supermarket for over a year.

What, hawthorn flowers were called mays? The bit about casting a clout I think referred to clothing layers, as the old word for cloth was 'clout'.

struth

Yes, hawthorn is called may flower. As it flowers in May when it's been regularly warm enough. And clowt was clothes or rags etc. So don't take off the extra clothes yil the the hawthorn flowers

Macca

Loads of hawthorne round here. Was used for field boundaries I think.

Thank you Grant, always nice learning stuff :)

My archery club used to have an annual 'Clout (clowt?) shoot', where a large peg was driven into the ground with a coloured cloth attached to it. And then shot at from 180 yards (too far for sights to be used), mostly using longbows, usually made from Yew, and so more closely resembled what the archers had to do in battle. But without all the death.

Cheers, mate. You do what you have to do. He l(and mum) did a fine job of looking after me when I was young, so it's only right that I return the favour when he needs it:)

And Del's, Del... She's always been a carer, having nursed her mum through cancer and her dad through dementia, both right until the end and whilst holding down a full-time job, although I also helped.

And she'll help me do the same with my dad, if/when he needs that level of care, plus she keeps him going, being the bubbly little livewire she is!:D

heavy rain, been raining all night and still going now. Forecast says it will not stop until 0700 tomorrow. Can't wait to see what the flood looks like after that.

On the plus side temperature due to rise to 13c which is the highest it's been here since that brief warm spell back in March.

Marco
08-05-2021, 08:23
Yup, pishing down (as expected), as you say the drains will be overflowing because they don't clean out the buggers anymore! Aside from that, no other flooding here, as we live on top of a hill:)

And the rain will do the plants and veg some good, as well as giving the lawn a bit of colour... Anyway, a nice music and movies day beckons:cool:

Drainage is bad here because we are on the valley bottom and it's very flat so it takes ages for water to drain away even if the drains are crystal clean which they probably aren't.

Yes it's a good day to stop in and listen to some tunes. Not that I had anything else planned in any case.

Yeah, the drains here overflow within about an hour of a heavy downpour, simply because they're rarely if ever cleaned:rolleyes: But we've got no chance of being flooded. We were out yesterday, so had no plans to go out today.

Gonna make up some compilation tapes on the Tandberg from 12" singles:)

I went commando, much to the customer's delight.

Actually that's a lie - this customer is a total horror and has fallen out with every tradesman she's used on her 'project'. Looks like I'm last man standing, the downside of be so adorable. First casualty was her project manager, who left so quickly his tyre marks are still on the drive six months later. So now all the workmen have her on their shoulder like a bleedin' parrot while working. And one by one they're leaving and not coming back.

While fitting this window there were bees flying in and out of the wall cavity next to me - must be a nest in there. They weren't bothering me, and I told her so. "Oh I'm not bothered about you, but I have allergies! I've got some powder that'll sort them". When I informed her you aren't allowed to destroy bees' nests, she said "Oh it doesn't kill them, it just make them want to be somewhere else".

After I'd glazed the window their direct route was blocked, and next news she's shouting "They're all flying through my house!" I just knew that after I left she would be killing them, but I hope they give her a good seeing to first.

Went to a car boot sale a few miles away. 8am, and already warm enough for t shirt. But not warm enough to entice anyone with anything worth selling. Only things remotely of interest were an ok pair of Beovox S30 speakers for £90, which I'd estimate was about £88.50 too much, and a stall selling a few thousand records which looked like they'd arrived on a tipper truck. All I'd spent was £1 for the parking :(

Back home already, watching Peppa Pig and wishing I was at work.

I keep meaning to take a photo of it but I always forget to take my 'phone with me. It was right across the street again last night. You have to be careful when near it when it's like that as fuckers will deliberately drive into it in the hope of soaking you. It's at a five-way intersection too, so they can come at you from any direction.

This weather is broken, can we send it back for refund?Great idea!

At least it's not raining here in the frozen north right now, but visibility is poor, and it's quite cool.

It's supposed to be raining - probability around 25% - and maybe sunny, but then the probability of rain goes down and it gets even duller later on - with a high of 10 degrees C.

Boring!

It has rained - slightly - and been dull and cold today up here in the FN. So what's new ....? [Well actually occasionally it is warm and sunny - but not often this year.]

Ouch. Must be windy there. We've just got the rain. Bit of a breeze but nothing drastic.

Just been down to the shop and the flood is officially right across the road. People are now slowing down to cautiously drive through it instead of the usual practice of accelerating into it in the hope of soaking some pedestrians.

This is a new height for it. More rain to come too.

However, you feel the cold much more than I do, so crave the sun. You mentioned recently that it was 'chilly'. For me, it's not been (what I call) chilly since February! For me, 'chilly' is when it's single figures outside, otherwise it's perfectly comfortable - and most of the time here (until today) it's been around 12/13C.

I've actually had to switch the heater off today. 21c in my living room, first time it's got that high since last September.

Heaters? Lol.. That would be way too hot for me. Comfortable for us indoors is 18/19C. We've had the heating off for weeks, and so have been able to keep the temp around that level today, even when it's been much warmer out.

That'll be impossible now, over the next few days, when temps here outdoors will hit 25C (probably equating to around 28C indoors), so I'll be roasting ma boz aff, but such is to be expected as summer approaches:)

Didn't get a drop :)

Lol, we had a few spurts, but nothing compared with what had been forecast. It's been largely overcast and a little humid:)

In any case, having a younger wife, especially a princess, helps keep me young! How will you manage it?:D

HAHAAHHA... Cactus legs?:D

Not at all, mate. I've got a fine pair of pins - some women are jealous that I look better in a skirt than they do!!:rofl:

;)

Crocs? Fuck off...:nono: Never [sorry Granty]...

Converse trainers or Adidas Samba, mate.

Well after that sleepover party of Del's, where you came rushing into the room pushing a hoover and declaring that you want to break free, they really didn't know what else to say...

And Converse trainers and Adidas Samba, that takes me back, to the 70's :) Quick test - if you take longer than 2 minutes to reply, you've failed - Converse All Stars, who's name is in the logo?

Marco
28-05-2021, 19:16
What's the purpose of the test exactly, don't you believe me?:hmm:

Retro trainers are cool, hence the Samba. Lots of 70s stuff is cool (and also fashionable) now. And when I got home that day, Del's pals were long gone. Came across some 'interesting finds' though, when I was clearing up!:D

No I don't, I think they're Del's, and you've latched on to appear "down with the kids", apart from when she's out, then you try them on as part of your "she's left the house, time to dress up" routine :eyebrows: Have you tried on the "interesting finds" yet?

Pigmy Pony

Oh, and to save you having to rummage through Del's dressing room, the answer's Chuck Taylor :ner:

Marco
28-05-2021, 19:38
Hahahahaha, wouldn't you like to know, shweety?:D

I can assure you I have a pair of Converse trainers, among many others, not to be 'down with the kids', but because I like how they look with shorts or jeans (they're comfy), and I almost never wear 'proper shoes', as that's just not me.

You should know me by now, I don't spin tales (have no need to), perish the thought!:ner:

Oh, and Del's Converse are pink (size 4) - I'd look a right sight in those, even with my gorgeous well-toned pins!!

That is, if I could even get them on, as I'm a size 9/10... You do come out with some mad pish sometimes.

But I wasn't going to play your silly game:ner:;)

Mum! Will you tell Marco? He says my game's silly!:wah:

The way you jumped onto that Crocs mention, I just thought "Ooh here's something I can have fun with", as there is really very little you could teach me about stuff we wear. Been there, done that, and if any of us got it wrong, we ripped the piss mercilessly, believe me :D We all move on though, and these days I'd have to go check who made my skate shoes or jeans...

Ha - fill yer boots (no pun intended) and I'll gladly return the compliment with interest!:D;)

I 'jumped on' the Crocs thing because I see a lot of (often pot-bellied) middle-aged blokes wearing them with shorts, and with legs exactly as you described, sometimes even adorned with long socks:lol: And that fundamentally isn't me, and so *defo* NOT my kind of image. If I wanted to look like a total cock though, that would be the outfit.

That's why I 'jumped on' it. Crocs have their place, for sure, and I get why Granty likes them. Heck, Del sometimes even wears them in the garden (yes pink ones again, can you see a theme?:D), and they look quite cute on her with a floaty skirt, or whatever [kinda hippy-chick], but not on me. Just not my thang - the Crocs that is, not the skirt..:eyebrows:

I'm not here to 'teach' you anything, daftee. Why would you think that? All I'm doing is stating facts, and deliberately giving you 'titbits' you can giggle at. I don't wear 'skate shoes' either, btw. Jeans are 501s, or nowt.

You're assuming that I am misunderstanding your intent, but at the same time taking my statements literally. The limitations of the written word. We'll just have to agree that we're both cool as f__k :)

Hey, that cowboy hat has saved the day many times when I've been caught short miles from a toilet. Still makes me smile when I think of that party where you fell asleep with it over your face, thinking you looked like Paul Newman :)

Overcast but quite mild.

And point of order - Converse are not trainers. They're plimsoles, or, if you must, 'sneakers'.

I had a pair once, never again. Soles are too thin, like walking in your bare feet. Same reason I could never get on with desert boots. Might be fine on sand but not on a British pavement. You feel every little stone and bit of grit.

Converse All Stars are actually basketball shoes, and were made for that purpose back in the 1920's. True about them having thin soles, but then if I'm going to be on my feet any length of time I've got boots for that.

Haven't had any Converse since the 80's, usually get "skate" shoes (Vans, Rip Curl) which have quite thin soles, but only for dossing around.

Yes, of course you're right. It's just a UK thing to call anything like that 'trainers':)

I only wear them when I'm not walking far, so thin soles aren't a problem.

Indeed, mate. Del would say the same about flats or heels, which with her slip off rather too easily, lol! I've never known a girl who can't keep shoes on her feet for five minutes, unless there's no other option!

this is more like it; 22c in the shade and blue skies :)

Walk to local with Fliss and puppy for early doors (let's hope there aren't too many tourists)

I shall be wearing t shirt, shorts and either "Vans" plimsoles (honeycomb sole is great for grip on mtb pedals) or "Birkenstock" sandals (no socks ) - must have had them for twenty years and still looking good/wearing well :)

Just don't bother putting your clocks forward in the spring, and you'll be sorted. Right now it is quarter past three in my van, though only because I don't know how to alter it.
