Unless we're on a long trip we usually just have the radio on. CD choices are varied, from Tears for Fears to The The. I had a spell of playing Chemical Brothers, but it was making me drive too fast. Anita's choices are a bit more current (Christine and the Queens, Disclosure, The Script, Daniel Ratecliff and the Night Sweats).
My current van (Mercedes Vito) won't even play CDs, it just has an SD card slot. What's that all about? Most trips in van are 10 miles or less, so radio is good enough :)
An interesting concept, music when you are driving....
My tunes are made by a K16 at speeds up to 8,000 rpm with a 4-2-1 side exit exhaust.

The Clio’s got a decent enough sound system for my needs, touch screen head unit with Bluetooth and plays mp3s off a memory stick and bass reflex speakers. Don’t really spend enough time driving anywhere to warrant weighing out big money on a better system. Remember back in the day the Vauxhall Corsa crew where the sound systems were worth more than the car.
No worries... Overall, I don't do a lot of driving either, but we go on long-ish trips/days out now and then, and so like listening to quality music on the road, but I can be just as happy blasting out some choons on the way to Chester (half an hour's drive), or when picking Del up at college.
Quite funny watching the teenagers leaving, smiling and giving nods of approval, as they hear stuff that they're familiar with, blasting out from the blacked-out Brabster!:rave:

The Meghan Trainor song isn't literally about bass and treble, it is about her being a chunky lass and ok with it :) Answering your other question, rappers (or their followers) don't really like their music very much, and when they play it they aren't really listening - it's there purely to get attention. When out in their cars, bass frequencies can be heard quarter of a mile away, not so much with the midrange.
One of Anita's sons had a car with bin lid-size speakers in the back, and you could hear the hip-hop cack long before he arrived home. Then he'd be out of the car and into his room to watch some reality TV shite or The Simpsons. He never played anything in the house ever. We bought him a mini system one Christmas, and it's still on top of his wardrobe, unopened.
I have hopes he will grow up eventually, then he can get a nice girlfriend and move out :)

However, it's all very controlled and accurate [because of how well-damped the car is and the attention to detail paid to the dedicated enclosure for the sub, which Sean is a master at], and at the same time, at a suitably high volume level, truly gut-wrenching, especially if you're sat on the back seat in front of the sub, where it can induce involuntary spasms!:eyebrows:
Therefore, a lot of this isn't about musical merit, but simply giggle-inducing bass effects...I 'get off' on a similar thing with movies, hence why I like action stuff a lot, which is full of explosions, and belted out by the twin-subs in the home cinema system! Like the Peperami advert, I guess I'm just a bit of an animal:lol:

Quite simply, kids can't afford to do it right, so it sounds like shite - and the worst are the subs...:doh:
There's a reason why it cost me £3k just for the install in my car (carried out by a seasoned professional), *minus* the equipment/speakers and cables, simply because that's the ONLY way to achieve genuine high-fidelity sound from a mobile audio system, as opposed to a din posing as such, and that includes the pish supplied as standard in all but the most expensive of cars.
Essentially, as far as possible, you have to nullify the 'tin-can' effect, which seriously inhibits any equipment or speakers from performing well, and that takes both time and skill. The vast majority of people, never mind kids, just wouldn't go there, hence haven't much clue of what's actually possible - and in that respect, the sound from my car system would put many so-called 'audiophile' home systems to shame, and in some instances, for considerably less money:)

A lot of the stuff I've posted here I've heard whilst out in the car listening to Radio 1, plus the DAB radio I've got there sounds rather good! Yes, probably 90% of the music output of that station is mind-numbing shite, but the other 10% can often throw up some gems...
Equally, I find listening to Radio 2, the popular music station reserved for 'us oldies' lol, mind-numbingly depressing. During the day, you'll NEVER hear anything new - just the same old shite, regurgitated again and again! Therefore, sometimes it pays not to be an intransigent old fart, and check out what the kids are down with:D

I’m a Dua Lipa fan (and an Elton fan come to that - at least from back in the days when he could still sing!) but I don’t get this track at all.
It’s Elton singing the verse of ‘Sacrifice’ and then DL singing the chorus of ‘Rocket Man’ over a moderately fancy beat.
Smacks of cynical marketing to me rather than actual creativity.
All true, but it's also intellectualising the fun out of good, simple pop, to bop along to in the car or wherever, which is the whole point.
It's not meant to be critically analysed by 'music snobs', simply enjoyed (if you like that kind of thing). Stock, Aitken and Waterman did the same with repetitive beats, designed to 'hook' you, superimposed onto the music of various artists in the 80s, and it didn't do Rick Astley or Kylie Minogue any harm!;)
The Elton John/DL track in question is simply the disposable pop of today, so if you don't like it, move along, nothing to see here:ner:

Well, I actually disagree, I think the driver of the track was Australian trio PNAU (who also did “Good Morning to the Night” with Elton in 2012) who put it together, and I think it’s quite clever to take four Elton tracks (“Kiss the Bride” and an album track “Where’s the Shoorah?” apparently also spliced in there) and come up with this boppy little number!

But yeah, not gonna overthink it, it just makes me happy and that’s what a good tune should do. :)

Unfortunately I can’t ‘move along’ as Radio 1 keep bloody well playing it!!
I have no complaint about the beat and, as I said, I like Dua Lipa, but she’s better than this feeble effort. Hell, even Rick and Kylie’s 80s lyrics were original!

I really only listen to that stuff in the car (hence the title of this thread), or heavy rock or dance music, as for me it lends itself to that and also helps keep me awake!:D
That's why it can't be anything too 'serious' or that requires much concentration. I mean, I love classical music and jazz/blues, but would I play it in the car? No chance! For me, it just doesn't 'fit', so for that reason R3 won't be on either, and I'm not staid, boring, or possibly intellectual enough to listen to R4!:eyebrows:
Commercial radio stations do my nut in because of all the adverts! And 'themed' music stations, playing the same stuff over and over, even worse!!:doh: R6 though, can often be quite good, or otherwise it's CDs all the way!:cool:

The operators (read as glorified mouse clickers) simply press a few buttons and broadcast a predetermined playlist, which on R1 is governed by trends/flavours of the month, hence the track in question currently getting lots of airtime!

This isn't anything new - when i got my first radio in 1971, certain songs (The Tams' "Hey girl don't bother me", Middle of The Road's "Tweedle De Tweedle Dum", Redbone's "Witch Queen of New Orleans" and many others) were played by every DJ throughout the day.
We're just less tolerant of it these days because we're older.
