Well May is here already! Another month before we can "cast a clout" though
April went fast. Must be this lockdown thing.

Yeah it did, the days and weeks just roll into each other, it's Sunday then Friday faster than you can imagine..........
Bit grey and overcast here, although dry. Looking at the forecast, things don't 'cheer up' properly until Monday. Tuesday looks like a cracker:)
It's not cold, though. We haven't lit the wood burner since lockdown, and just periodically flicked on the central heating to 'take the chill off'. Anything more than that would be too much, as Del and I both hate overly warm houses, the way some folk have them, and which is unhealthy.

Yeah, around 17C is plenty for us indoors, and 15C is fine, which is about what it is now. 12C outside.
My biggest hate is oppressively hot bedrooms in hotels!:eek::nono:

Well got all the sh---- on the fields before rain hit so lovely green fields to come hopefully. Not haytiming much this year only bout 60 acres as still have plenty from last year. Seems a farmers life revolves round wanting good weather and bad weather. Missus likes to stress on it regular she gets cpl of months off now then will start watching for that rite time to cut grass.

Gloomy with occasional light showers. Not too cold.
As forecast, it's a cracker... Bright sunshine and blue skies, with temps later set hit 17C:)
The rest of the week also looks great, and potentially warmer! So get out in your gardens folks and soak up the rays!:cool:

My old terraced house had a small yard, with fairly high walls, But it was south facing, so did get some sun. Many terraced houses aren't so lucky
My back garden is large and south facing. It's still baltic tho lol
Weather fine here today - sunshine, blue sky with occasional cloud. Cut the grass, then went out for a walk. :)
Been great here as well today. Had the joy of chopping rushes this aft.
About 12c. Blueish sky with light cloud. Cool easterly again tho. Nice to look at and OK with a jersey

Rain, rain, and more rain. Chilly 46 deg. F here. We get a little nice patch that just teases. Spring will blow right by and we will be stuck at 90 deg. with 90% humidity. Oh well, beats snow and ice any day, any time. Even for Christmas!

hard to reconcile yesterday's weather with what we have this morning - currently 9C but feeling much colder with all that wind
It's actually not bad here - well not as bad as predicted, and shite compared with yesterday, but it's currently 12C and dry, (my arse aside) not much wind, with a slight haze coming thorough the grey clouds, so yes better than expected!:)

Beautiful sunshine in Suffolk today, 10 mile walk from home exploring some of the footpaths we haven’t ventured onto yet - found an airfield and this absolutely gorgeous and unique church in Crowfield - looking forward to seeing how it is inside once lock down is over.

Remember living in Tottenham back in the 90s, looking out the window one day to a leaden grey sky and saying 'God, its fucking horrible', and my friend being a bit pissed off with me, 'fuck, mike, you're so depressing'.
Beautiful warm sunny day today here in Essex. Drove out to a neighbouring village, parked up and went for a one hour walk, ending up sitting near the village pond to sunbathe and watch the ducks.
Remarkably peaceful, save for several bikers coming making a noise coming and going.

19C and rising. It's dry and bright again, I can't recall when we last had rain.
No rain forecast here until Thursday and even then it is only a 30% chance of a shower. It's weird as on average here it rains every third day.

Did you see the old manor house moat that it mentions? Fascinates me this stuff, landscape archaeology and that. There used to be a moated manor house pretty much across the road from where I live, but it was knocked down in the early 1800s. The existing streets still mark out the old plot of it though.

Yes we did see the moat, and it appears to be a common theme around the local villages including ours (Stonham Aspal) where the local manor house by the church has one. Saw at least two others on the walk on Sunday, probably "keeping up with the Jones's" from the middle ages! :lol: So many beautiful old houses cleared in the name of "progress" even as recently as the 70s.

I think originally Norman, though the chancel is Elizabethan (unique in Suffolk) and the church has been restored/rebuilt over the years. Sadly closed at the moment as are all churches due to COVID-19 but will be going back when that changes! And yes, we have some stunning walks around here, as well as the public footpaths the local farmers are happy for people to walk the field edges as long as everyone is respectful, which everyone appears to be. We try and get out every day, even if just for a short one. :)

We went out for a long walk in the sunshine. Now I'm back and thoroughly knackered, so the gardening will have to wait.
Not had a long walk in ages now. Used to walk the six mile back from work a couple of times a month, which kept all the gears lubricated and working. Gradually seizing up now.
Sun's still cracking the flags here.
It was a six-mile walk today, with a steep climb halfway. We do three miles or so most days, but later in the week looks like being too hot to do anything except sit in the shade with a beer.
It's at that point in the year now when it's still light stupidly late so you could go out for an hour or so about 8 ish when it's cooled down a bit.

I was outside cutting the hedge. Got a bit too hot and puffed out and had to stop and rest three times. I'm not as fit as I thought I was, still recovering from recent incapacity I think.
I walked out to the shed and then fed fish and birds. Nearly killed me..

I've just checked the route of our walk, and it was more like 8 miles. No wonder I'm knackered!
was nice most of day today and forecast looks good for rest of week..
Been a scorcher here all day, which of course is nice, BUT - for those of us with gardens, with lawns, flowers and/or produce that needs watered, we BADLY need some sustained rain!!
I've been watering the garden with a hose, giving it a right good soaking, but not the same - SO.... I'm off out to do a rain dance!

I can't remember the lights at all; in fact the only thing I do remember about the trips is listening to Radio Luxembourg on the way home in what seemed to be the middle the night. I particularly recall 'The Battle of the Giants', sponsored by National petrol. The problem with Radio Luxembourg was that you only got to hear a minute or so of each song before the adverts kicked in. I've never been back there since; my daughter went there with her boyfriend recently, took one look at the place, and drove somewhere 'nicer'.

More than 50 years ago in my case. I was thinking we stopped going there whilst I was still at primary school, but then I remember we went to Madame Tussaud's, including the Chamber of Horrors, so I must have been a bit older.
I'd love to have seen Blackpool in its heyday, perhaps around the 20s/30s or earlier [same applies to other, once great, British seaside resorts], where I believe it would've been lovely, and staying at places such as Grand Metropole or The Imperial, when they were genuinely 'posh' and could ably satisfy the most fastidious desires of a gourmet and bon vivant, but now?
No way! Fucking CHAV CITY, full of junk 'amusement arcades', very dated, often dilapidated buildings and cheap shops, mostly nasty 'budget' hotels/restaurants, all catering for old people or the undiscerning 'egg and chip brigade'...:spew::nono:
A total waste of time and fuel going there and back. All these places need massive financial investment, and totally refurbished, in order to bring them up to date, offer something genuinely worthwhile to tourists who enjoy living well in the 21st century, and to completely reinvent their image!

That would've probably been half decent. They were generally pretty consistent in quality and knew how to cook steak!:)

last time we had night out in blackpool cpl of years ago we stayed at metropole and you are rite it is now a dump but still has a lot of original features. Were supposed to be there next month for a pool tournament but that has been cancelled.

I'd have been 16 or 17. I'd tasted beer a few years earlier, and hated it (we'd smuggled some cans of Tennant's on a school trip).
Far from my parents being 'major foodies', I can count the number of meals out with my family on the fingers of one hand. My older sister recently told me about one meal we'd had at a posh restaurant and being made to finish her soup, but it rang no bells with me.

Just different cultures... My parents weren't gourmets, far from it, but liked to eat well (as do most Italian families). My mum was a fabulous cook, so when they ate out the food had to be at least as good as my mum made at home, which predisposed them to dining in decent restaurants.

I remember it being excellent. Don't recall ever having a bad meal in a Berni. Used to go to the one in Old Hall Street in Liverpool about twice a year. Down in a basement. There was one on the Pier Head too but that was more expensive for no apparent reason. Only went there once Long gone now, even the building has been replaced.

Nice one, mate. Hopefully that'll give you confidence to venture into a proper supermarket and do a (probably much needed) 'shop'. Have you got a mask?
TBH, if you wear that (mainly to ensure that you keep your hands away from your nose and mouth, take some hand sanitiser in with you, to use going in and out, and wash your hands thoroughly after putting away your shopping, then you'll be fine.
It's important for your soul and mental well-being not to become a prisoner in your own home, and to LIVE, not simply exist!:cool:

I can just imagine you rushing down those stairs to get your breakfast nosebag before the restaurant closes at 10am, because you overslept (again). And going arse over tits, which would not be at all funny :D

Acres that was sat in the wettest winter spell / floods , has had a crop put into soil going like concrete with the dry conditions now , and as it comes up , withering away in the heat .Maize for cattle got its tops burnt by the frost and wind a few weeks ago and now the drought (which will end in a hosepipe ban soon ) . All we need now is a plague of some sort - oh hang on !!!
I am cheerful sometimes :)

Acres that was sat in the wettest winter spell / floods , has had a crop put into soil going like concrete with the dry conditions now , and as it comes up , withering away in the heat .Maize for cattle got its tops burnt by the frost and wind a few weeks ago and now the drought (which will end in a hosepipe ban soon ) . All we need now is a plague of some sort - oh hang on !!!

Yeah the stairs, woodwork, and the whole layout of the lobby is fab, and as you say from a bygone era when folk took a pride in their work - and these days there's sadly too of much 'not giving a toss' about such things, although I'm sure the mitred corners of your UPVC frames are perfect!:D

Another bright and sunny morning, and Alexa says it's currently 14C, with an expected high of 24C. Not sure if it's too breezy to sit outside, but I have devised a method to determine the windiness. I put an opened bag of crisps on the garden table then go inside to make a cup of coffee. If I return to find the crisps all over the garden then it's too windy.
I know what your thinking - with all the windy weather we've been having it could get expensive, but by switching from Walker's to Morrisons own brand crisps, I'm making substantial savings. I'm not as daft as I look, see :)
I suspect results will vary with the brand of crisp. A heavier crisp, such as McCoy's, will be less susceptible to higher windspeeds, whereas a light crisp, say Discos, far more so.
Do they still make Discos? Not seen them in years. Not that I'm bothered, never liked them anyway. A girl's crisp.
You also need to study the effect of wind shear on the shape of the crisp, I'd theorise that a square crisp would offer more resistance to wind and therefore be more affected. And then you need to compare crinkle-cut to smooth.
I like crisps.

Discos obviously passed me by. I don't even remember my children eating them. They used to eat Hula-Hoops a lot, mainly because they were always on offer at Sainsbury's.

Well, as my old man owned two chippies, I had access to pretty much every kind of crisps you could imagine, as well as sweets, lollies and ice-cream - all for nowt. You could get bored with it after a while, though! My fav was ice-cold 'jubilees' in the summer, either cola or orange - or lime-flavoured 'ice poles'!!
Used to make a nice profit selling crisps and sweets to my mates in school though, and which undercut the 'tuck shop', then ciggies came into the equation later, which was a really nice little earner...:eyebrows:
I guess that was the start of my entrepreneurial adventures...:D

Obviously they may have done, but I never noticed any empty Disco packets as opposed to the many empty Hula-Hoops, Skips, Monster Munch, Space Raiders and Quaver packets in the rubbish.
Interesting that, Hula-Hoops aside, none of those contain any potatoes!
Was never really into the processed 'puffy' stuff, posing as 'crisps'. I preferred (still do) the real thing. The original Smiths 'Salt & Shake' were legendary:

Don't bother much with crisps normally, except as a snack when on holiday, as chocolate tends to be a bit expensive. They're called "Lays", and look rather like Walkers crisps bags.
