If you had the virus and have since been jabbed (as I have). You may be better protected.

Interesting reports:

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/omicron-wuhan-b970416.html

https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-previous-infection-and-vaccination-combine-for-best-protection-against-variants-12489031

I would be surprised if that weren't the case. Surely nothing can give better immunity than the real thing?

These reports are interesting only in that they are full of ifs, maybe, perhaps etc. the reality being they don’t know.

They say the jabs may not be effective in the latest (sic) variant, but are pushing the “booster” jab.

You really cannot make this plandemic anything other than a fairy story to scare people into submission.

There are similar activities in history.

A “holiday camp” like Prora could be built. Of course the Germans with their current separatist program could reinstate Prora........or......new idea, build a wall, unvaccinated on one side.....there is history here!

It was a fraction of Prora (building 2) that was redeveloped along its 1.9 mile structure, the developer I believe has now gone bust.

I read that most of the blocks have been completely refurbished and sold. Just checked and the Wikipedia entry seems to suggest that's near enough true.

The Prora Solitaire hotel in Block 2 opened in time for summer 2016, and some reconstructed flats were for sale in that Block by mid 2017. At that time, four of the buildings were in the process of redevelopment, a fifth was used as a youth hostel while the remaining three remained in ruins.[4][11][12]

Wikipedia is not a reliable source, but I can understand it’s use, 2017 seems to be the limit of its information though, nothing since.

There would be nothing to stop the German Government pulling Prura back into state control.

There was a very interesting programme on TV recently, I think it was called “Abandoned Engineering” it mentioned Prora and its development and planning.

It also talked about Pripyat, the town nearest to Chernobyl was built to be one of the most beautiful and luxurious cities in the Soviet Union. It’s design and openness was thankfully the reason why the evacuation could be so quick after the disaster at No 4 reactor.

I thought the idea behind the vaccination booster programme was in the (possibly vain) hope that fewer Covid patients will need treatment. As has been said, it may not be effective against Omicron, but what else is there? Maybe I'm just being naive, I am sometimes. We should know better by the end of winter.

There are a few issues:-
GP’s are still virtually closed, so people who would normally go to them when they start to feel ill, for whatever reason, can’t. So they get worse potentially. Maybe hospitalised!
GP’s are now being paid extra to give boosters, less availability for normal patients. Maybe hospitalised!

So we’re stacking up ill people to Save the NHS......really!

We now have some 8 million people awaiting hospital treatment that has been put off, they’re probably getting worse with possibility of death. Some 400+ people die of heart related issues each day, 400+ people die of cancer each day.

We test people for Covid and if they test positive they’re told to isolate, no treatment. Go home and wait, if you get really ill go to hospital.

I have no perception, trace of logic or reasoning for what we are currently undergoing. For a virus with 0.02% fatality

Hard to argue with those points Gary, and I should say that while my first and second jabs were at a "centre" set up for that purpose, my booster was at a GP's surgery.

I also know that people are waiting an age for non-urgent procedures/ops, and I'm one of them, waiting since May to have a benign skin cancer sorted.

But what is really bad is that my younger brother noticed a lump on his neck a couple of months ago, but didn't have much of a wait for a biopsy. Three and a half weeks passed and he thought "Hey, no news is good news", but his partner (a nurse) told him to chase it up. Turns out to be throat cancer.

I wonder how long he would have ended up waiting if his other half hadn't told him to be a squeaky wheel.

It would appear that someone had sat on his results for three weeks, and the latest specialist he has seen said it would have been better if they'd caught it sooner, as it has grown to a point where it is dangerously near his spine and so surgery is too risky. So it's radiation and Chemo time. I'm sure that if this was 2 years ago things would have shaped up better.

When's my sense of smell gonna return? I miss the scent of my dogs ears. Dismayed by the new lockdown advice given by Boris & Co. I have the virus, I had my first jab back in May, I'm glad I did, as you do hear about the odd extreme case of death in some unvaccinated younger/healthy people, their super healthy immune systems go into overdrive. I say jab, jab, jab again, you lockdown if you want to, but this ladies not for locking. It's bad enough having to self isolate for 10 days, I couldn't face another lockdown, I need to go out every day. I also hate fuss, and having to book tables/venues etc, and stupid fucking waiters pointed temperature guns at your head. Just get the jab and get on with life! This is not the fucking 1920s! I got so bored last night I drank 4 beers and a bottle of red, I woke this morning and to quote Withnail 'feel like a pig has shat in my head'. Still, I'm glad I STILL haven't suffered this common side effect of Cpvid, as reported in 50% of cases. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0FnfGblLr8

I suppose all they can do is put up signs. If folk are going to be arsey enough to refuse mask wearing they're best avoided. I feel sorry for shop staff, it shouldn't be their job to police this.

Perhaps coppers should make random visits to shops and slap fines on offenders, or is it not yet against the law?

But why isn’t the Government majoring on this, begs the question does the Science tell them how to make the masks effective, and the answer is yes. The WHO has outlined exactly this.

It seems the Government can pick and choose which science it wants to follow.

For whatever reason!

maybe people should just make the effort, better if its done correctly, but incorrectly is better than nothing, for those around them. I see far too many people making the effort to prove a point by not wearing one at all. I kinda hope they are gonna join the 4 out of 5 unvaxed in intensive care. IMHO

Stryder5
11-12-2021, 20:59
Incorrectly isn’t better, handling the mask incorrectly transfers any contamination from the hands to anything being touched.

Why would you wish harm on the unvaccinated? Transmission of the virus still occurs from vaccinated, indeed there is some evidence that viral load can be higher in vaccinated people.

Probably not, but I'd be surprised if something isn't done come New Year. We may as well just stay at home with a few layers and a woolly hat, because we can't afford to do bugger all anyway.

Inflation is reportedly at five point something percent, but just about everything I have to pay for has gone up by more like 20% easily. I also heard that secondhand motors prices have gone through the roof, so maybe I'll sell on my van at a profit and hibernate with the profit :)

Was just reading this report (https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/covid19/data/Cases-and-Deaths-by-Vaccination-Status-11082021.pdf) from the Texas Department of State Health Services examining data from Jan. 15 to Oct. 1.

"Of the nearly 29,000 covid-linked fatalities in Texas during that period, more than 85 percent were of unvaccinated individuals. Nearly 7 percent of the deaths were among partially vaccinated people, while nearly 8 percent were fully vaccinated."

Not sure there's much more to say than that. Had my booster this afternoon. No idea what's in it. Any more than I have any idea of what's really in the food I will be eating for dinner, or the bottle of wine I've just opened.

I'm not saying it was a lab made virus, but the fault is China's alone, either in 'wet market' practices, or something else. I wonder why the writer of 'Survivors' chose a Chinese scientist though?

You remember it well! The character of the barber was typical of this, bungling, and as you say selfish. There is one competent working class character though - Paul - he has a lot of farming knowledge, and the show explicitly shows him upstaging the rest of the cast as he lambasts them on their attempts at growing veg. Though there are a few digs at the upper classes too. As ever the middle professional classes win the day.

The tennis star has a track record when it comes to questionable scientific claims.

In his book Serve to Win, Djokovic described how in 2010 he met with a nutritionist who asked him to hold a piece of bread in his left hand while he pressed down on his right arm. Djokovic claims he was much weaker while holding the bread, and cited this as evidence of gluten intolerance.

And during an Instagram live, he claimed that positive thought could "cleanse" polluted water, adding that "scientists have proven that molecules in water react to our emotions."

It was the same for us two weeks ago. Anita tested positive, having caught it presumably from her son who had stayed a couple of days. Despite him being double jabbed + booster, this is the third time he's had it. Anyway, Anita's symptoms were just a headaches and feeling a bit ropey for a couple of days, and she is what is classed as high risk. After about a week she started getting negative test results. And in all that time I stayed negative.

Doctors have discovered an “antibody signature” that can help identify patients most at risk of developing long Covid, a condition where*debilitating symptoms*of the disease can persist for many months.

Researchers at University hospital Zurich analysed blood from Covid patients and found that low levels of certain antibodies were more common in those who developed long Covid than in patients who swiftly recovered.

When combined with the patient’s age, details of their Covid symptoms and whether or not they had asthma, the antibody signature allowed doctors to predict whether people had a moderate, high or very high risk of developing long-term illness.

This is tough, but not surprising.

Dr Arthur Caplan spells out the reasoning in a way even a simpleton like me can follow. This DJ feller needs to get his head out of his arse and think about his family.

sis in law had a double lung transplant not that long ago and the criteria for getting it is incredibly strict. its to make sure you have best chance of survival, and rare organs are not wasted.
its odd tho that a guy does want to take advantage of modern medical knowledge, but he wants to say he knows more than the doctors re covid vaxx... just shows how, if you get infected with anti vaxx, how it clouds your judgement.
i might add i bet that is not the only thing that has stopped the transplant, just the newsworthy one.

Didn't realise they could transplant lungs now! What about livers? How is she getting on?

When I was in having a Kidney Transplant, there was a chap there having what the staff called a "mixed grill' and that was practically everything replaced. I believe this included Heart, Lungs, Kidney, Liver, Spleen and maybe a couple of other parts. The operation took 24 hours and was first done at Addenbrookes where I was.

That will take some getting over.

I read somewhere that part-livers can come from living donors, and it can regenerate to become full-size again. There has also been talk about transplanting pigs' livers being a viable option in the future. Don't know where we are with that one.

Doctors have managed to transplant a genetically modified pig heart into a human being for the first time, with the help of a small amount of cocaine.

The successful operation took place earlier this month at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Surgeons used a solution containing a small amount of Cocaine which made the heart beat more strongly. :D

apparently a part liver transplant is from a living donor and it will regenerate to full size in about 8 weeks.. amazing

I wonder if they go somewhere indoors and crowded do they take it off then? Sort of like the exact opposite of what your meant to do. I think it's possible.

Maybe they saw on the internet that covid waits until your alone then it pounces.

Mrs W just has a bad cold and is getting over it now. She showed signs on Thursday. Five days from then is Tuesday, so I expect to be positive by then.

I'm judging by how long it took Mrs W to show signs from when she had contact with someone infected. She went to her Sister's Birthday lunch and mixed with a couple of dozen people without masks on the Sunday before. We've had two years of being ultra careful and now this. It's because the public perception, based on the media, is that it's gone away now and is no threat but it ain't

Glad you and your wife have fought your way through this Dave.

I have had the miserable head cold for a week after testing positive for COVID, and am just beginning to feel human again. I'm a fairly fit 73 year old - my wife is a little younger, but started later and is a week behind me in the misery stakes. Yes, it is very debilitating.

The young 'uns in our family say it takes (on average) a week to shake it off, so I haven't done too badly, and I hope my wife fares as well.

You and "Mrs HiFi" did well to work through it - all power to you both, and may the spring bring joy to us all.

I think it takes folk differently. I am ten days after testing positive. For the first six days I had the heavy head cold symptoms and felt dreadful. A lot of that was down to lack of sleep because if I was horizontal my head filled up and I couldn't sleep. The head cold then cleared and I could sleep. I felt a good bit better and could sleep 10 to 14 hours a day in two or three sessions. I'm still sleeping a lot but I do have the energy to go for gentle bike rides.

I spoke to a lady this morning who had it much worse with temperatures hitting 102F. If anything I felt a chill most of the time. Spoke to the gardener who looks after our flats - he is three weeks beyond symptoms and still goes to bed at 8:30pm and sleeps right through.

But then of course a few cases are serious enough to need hospitalisation.
