May here and weather has taken a tumble up here. Just about managed 11c today and its to get colder as week goes on. Frost predicted overnight so if youve planted young uns up here they could get killed
A mainly bright day. Spent a bit more time clearing ‘Ivy corner’ (can’t take it all down as it’s the only thing holding the fence up).

Lol... Totally different here. It's mostly been a lovely sunny day (as it currently is now - just in from watering the plants in the garden), but had a few spots of rain earlier, and currently 17°C. More of the same is forecast tomorrow. I'll see if I can blow some warmth up your way!:D

Shame really - "Ivy Corner" sounds like a part of the IOM TT circuit, or a nice name for a cottage, while "Corrugated Iron Sheet Corner" just sounds like somewhere to put your sheets of corrugated iron :(

Actually I'll stick with your home country, back to Sunny Beach in five weeks - warm sunshine, 80p a pint for Kamenitza, and 2 leva for a plastic solar powered hula girl to keep my current one company. What's not to like? :)

Yes, assuming she has any in which she didn't last time. She doesn't really eat so there's rarely any food in the house of any description.

We haven't had rain for over two months but today has made up for it. Vertical stair rods and loads of Hailstones. The garden certainly appreciates it.

6 degrees last night not much warmer this morning and its about 12 now but only as the sun has been out earlier but its now overcast.
Ive seen better days in December. Yes it feels damn cold as there is a real chill in the air
Ive got my fan heater on and that eats money :(

Snap, although it's a couple of degrees warmer here. Don't really care what the weather is like today, as all my jobs are indoors! Also looking forward to taking my dad out for dinner tonight somewhere nice, to celebrate his 86th birthday!:cool:

He is able too, and lives in his own (detached) house, less than 10 mins walk (or 3 in a car) from my door, and at the moment is completely self-sufficient. Drives up to Scotland himself (in one go) to see his relatives, does all his own gardening, and his garden is a decent size too, cooks all his meals from scratch and all sorts, and needs no major medicines or tablets... Hardly ever ill or gets a cold, and walks great.
I'll settle for that when (or if) I reach his age!:cool:
His dad reached 92, and enjoyed the same level of good health throughout his life, so it seems to run in the family.

Lol - as far as the majority goes today, I tend to agree, although of course there will always be exceptions. As for the 'secret' to a long and healthy life, there's no real secret as far as I'm concerned.
Out with of the obvious 'hand that you're dealt with' angle [and genes play a large part in that, in terms of contracting the 'big C', etc] it's down to basic common sense, and simple things such as eating well/healthily, not smoking, getting plenty of fresh air and exercise/staying fit, basically looking after yourself in your early years especially, and not abusing/taking unnecessary risks with your body, which you can be sure will come back to haunt you in later life!
However, the mental angle [having a 'happy head'], from growing up in a stable and loving home environment, with parents that genuinely care for you, and not being subjected to too many hardships, for me is also crucial. Being happy and contented, throughout your life and not experiencing too much stress, particularly as a child, can add years onto your lifespan, as well as the opposite can remove them...
Mental/psychological health, and in particular enjoying the love of a good woman (or man), over many years, in a happy and rewarding relationship, or having kids who make you proud, and enjoying your working life too, but also knowing how to relax and enjoy yourself/appreciate what *really* matters, is ultimately just as important as good physical health!
And fortunately, as far as my dad's concerned, he's managed to tick all of those boxes, and so coupled with good genes, is likely why he's reached the age of 86 in the condition he's in:)
So far, I've ticked most of those boxes, so we'll see what the future holds!:cool:

I don't know about none eating. One of the girls at work reckoned the reason I am thin is I don't eat so she demanded a list of everything I had eaten or drunk in the previous 24 hours and added up the calories. Can't recall the exact figure but it was over 4000. Shut her up :)
Cold here, it was raining and blowing a gale too but that's stopped now.

Not having a car means I do a lot of walking. Quite often walk six miles back from work. All those apple danishes soon get burnt off.

Thank you for the compliment, but these avatars (actually taken from Marco's family album) don't set the bar very high. I was considered quite good looking in the seventies, but then the drugs were better in those days :)

A bit chilly this morning (about 5c) but at least its not raining. Unlike yesterday when all my work was outside, prompting me to do an early dart. Early start today, taking one of Anita's ankle biters to hospital to get his broken hand fixed. Kids, eh? Can't wait for him to grow up - he's only 26 :(

Not sure what it is about lorries catching fire but it seems to happen almost daily. Are they made of cardboard now or something?
Get back there's been a fire in the street, firemen and cops all over. That's a murder and a house fire in the space of a fortnight. Which is odd because one drugs bust aside nothing of any interest has happened here since I moved in 21 years ago.

It just feels cold Marco. Its 7 degrees now with a steady breeze. Its also psychosomatic in that its May and we had a heatwave in February :)
Ive got my heating on and the cruel part is there a hot sun lurking behind all this crap. Perfectly pleasant it is not

I'm sitting here in a t-shirt and shorts, but then I'm not the type who feels the cold, and Del's happy snuggling her hot-water bottle when she does, or our fluffy long-haired cat, who sits right beside her on the chair!:eyebrows:
We've not had the central heating on for weeks, other than a short blast first thing in the morning, to take the 'chill' off the air, and the log burner's now redundant until next winter! But then, we're both 'warm blooded', prefer a cool house to a hot one, and don't need it to be over 15deg before we stop shivering!:D;)

Was warm and sunny now gone colder and it's raining again. Was up town earlier on and there was a shower of hailstones, only little ones though. Like getting hit by dozens of diamonds. Had to take shelter for a bit until it passed over. But that was right up on top of the hill in Hanley. Always freezing cold on top of that brow. Nothing between there and the Urals. Which is why they built the bus station there I guess.

Had a couple of nights out in Hanley in the early nineties, both in winter, both freezing cold, but you'd never guess from what the women were wearing. Same everywhere these days, all young men are lazy, not just Stoke blokes. Want to see what they're getting before committing, also less layers to deal with.

Had a couple of nights out in Hanley in the early nineties, both in winter, both freezing cold,.
It's changed quite a lot since then, although the skimpily clad birds are still about thankfully. Was up there before Xmas for the staff do. They've knocked so many streets down and rebuilt them that I nearly got lost walking home. Couldn't get my bearings.

Gorgeous day here today in sunny Wrexham! No 'windchill' to speak of, and it's already 16°C... Gonna be a scorcher! Got a nice piece of Sirloin marinating in herbs and spices, ready to put on the BBQ later - can't wait!:cool:

Although it comes from the Sanskrit jangla, meaning dry arid ground oddly, although in most areas of Asia it mean dense vegitation.

I spent most of the afternoon fitting windows in a south facing bay, but didn't get much sun - the !00 year-old avalanche of dust and crap that dropped out of the cavity onto me head proved to be a very effective sun block. I looked like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, but without the Walpurgis accent.

Did some gardening yesterday. Usually I hate gardening in general, but with the sunny weather and a little breeze blowing, it was quite enjoyable. Hell I must be getting old - I'll be making regular visits to the garden centre if I don't watch out! :eek:
The clincher is when you begin staring lovingly at 'comfy slippers', with velcro straps, trousers with elasticated waists, and 'extra roomy' outdoor footwear...:eyebrows:

I was being sarcastic. Or ironic. Or possibly both at the same time.
I suffered from sunstroke once whilst trekking in Mauritania. A combination of direct sun and becoming dehydrated. I became delirious and started talking nonsense (so no change there!).
Tipped a litre bottle of water over my head, had a 20 minute nap in the shade and I was then right as rain.
I almost got it on a catamaran in the Caribbean but I noticed it coming on and got in the shade right away and got a pint of water in me. I've seen people get it bad and you really don't want it.

Just back and had a great day! Weather was good too, nice and sunny and it got up to 18°C. The Aretha film was great, and the Picturehouse at FACT is a cool place. There's a nice bar just below the screens themselves, and you can take a beer, or even a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses up, as one couple did, to enjoy with the film:)
Chinese meal was superb... Couldn't finish it all, so got a doggy bag to take home, so am just enjoying the rest now:cool:

The south coast would have more a rain shadow effect, and nicer climate than say up in North. We look forward to our summers ending, which is funny, this time of year is more nicer. I have walked into a few spider webs and its horrible, lol. Lizards are lovely, especially Miss Lizard, she comes running up to me, when Mr Lizard was chasing her about lol, she went between my legs for safety. I do hope they are okay, they left rather early this year

Snowdonia gets a big chunk of your rain. Whereas we get everything it dumps when it finishes crossing the Cheshire Plain and starts rising up over the Pennines. Same as Manchester.
Does mean all the vegetation stays green even though most of it is growing on slag heaps, not soil.

They have a nicer time and are more likely to return. People fly in from sunnier climes and I feel so sorry for them :)

Yeah, it rains like hell in Manchester... You're right about Snowdonia, which shelters us a lot, and helps keep temps up. Even when it rains, very rarely does it do so for a whole day. Invariably, by early evening, it stops and the sun comes out, either that or we get the rain during the night and wake up to a sunny morning, just like today!:)
I honestly can't complain about the weather here, considering it's still a fairly northerly location in the UK, especially compared with up in Glasgow, where it could rain solid for days on end and on winter days, *never* get light!

None whatsoever. Most of my income these days comes from property rentals locally, which I manage, and the odd bit of framing I still do for some pubs and hotels, all of which I carry out from home, other than when I have to visit properties to check that tenants haven't wrecked the place.
If it rains when I get out the car, then I guess I might get a little wet. Other than that, the weather has zero effect on me! Anyway, I hope we get some long spells of good weather this year, and everyone, including you, benefits accordingly:cool:

Only if it snows does it make the car journey a pain in the arse. Anyway the time it takes me to get home doesn't affect my income. Still get paid the same.

Switched off, it got very warm in the office, and the windows only opened a fraction for health and safety gone mad reasons. Desk-top fans just blew the warm air around a bit.
Now, I don't mind what the weather does, as long as it keeps within sensible boundaries for the time of year, and doesn't stay too dry for too long.

Yes, you're much more placid/tolerant than me, and probably less prone to becoming annoyed. I wouldn't have minded at all, if said sweaty bints had shown some respect/manners, and asked first if we (the majority in the room) wouldn't mind if the window was opened, but not just to do it regardless and only think of themselves... I can't abide such inconsiderateness!
It really pushes my buttons. So they were told what I thought of them in no uncertain terms!! The thing is, it was a room full of sales people, sitting at desks and doing direct selling by phone, and many of us, me included, would've had to sit in a permanent draught for hours while we worked, so I'm sure you'll agree how unacceptable that would've been? Plus, it wasn't a one-off, but a regular occurrence, and so enough was enough...
It's one of the reasons why I'm so glad that I started up my own business, to get away from tossers like that, and also bosses telling me what to do... Nothing better than being your own boss, and so answerable to no-one!:)

We also wore suits, but that wasn't the point. It wouldn't have mattered what we were wearing. Sitting in permanent cold draught isn't good for you. Point taken though about being out the office. In the particular job I was talking about (which I only stuck for 5 months), you were in from 9am, often until 8pm, permanently sat at a desk, even during lunch breaks.
So imagine having to sit in a draught for hours on end, simply because some of inconsiderate bint's 'wonky thermostat' !

I work in a tee shirt for about eight months of the years, but I always carry other clothes in the van to allow for pretty much any weather we may get. My van has a tailgate rather than "barn doors", and if I get a shower it's a good time to enjoy a brew and a fag while sheltering. One of my simple pleasures :)

Just been out for lunch with may dad at the local Portuguese restaurant, where we sat outside in the glorious sunshine, and it's scorchio!
Currently 23°C, outside in the backyard, in our al fresco dining area. Just pouring myself a nice cool beer:barrel:

Had a bike ride to Bosham today with a group of 18 other riders... a lovely day had and the weather held and was quite warm at times.... ;)
Family coming over for a BBQ today, so of course, it is raining... :rolleyes:
Have a child stand over the barbeque (and the chef) with a golf umbrella. That's what my father used to do. He'd even barbeque when it was snowing.

Better to have the child lay over the barbeque, it'll cook more thoroughly that way :)
We had a bit of rain this morning but been dry with patchy sunshine since, rain all day is the forecast tomorrow.
No children were harmed in the making of this barbeque - the rain relented and normal service resumed. (Plenty of animals were however charred beyond recognition.)
So dark here I should probably put the lights on and now torrential rain has started. Pretty typical English Bank Holiday then.

The rain was on and off here yesterday, but nice and sunny in between, and not in any way cold. Today, so far it's dry and overcast . It's not meant to get any good until the weekend, but Del's off for half term, so plenty of fun to be had regardless of the weather:cool:

Clouded up a little lunchtime after a bright start & there was a little rain but eventually turned out to be a lovely late afternoon / evening, I even sat out for a bit surveying my estate.

Yep, mainly just shrubs & weeds, or at least it was till I did some weeding today. I did find a few bits of Nigella that had managed not to get strangled so that was good.
Spent the day in Felixstowe which was rather chilly and a few showers. Off to the Suffolk Show tomorrow - forecast shows sunny intervals but only 16c - warming up into the weekend. :smoking:

It's a kid-on modern one though, which I believe is now owned by the BMW Group. Not a proper Maserati, like the classics were back in the day. Same applies now to Jags.

...as meaning (probably) a dentist had parked his Maserati 'on front' of your house!:D So you're out and about again, and not at home? That's where the confusion has arisen. I thought you were parked outside your house in your car, and had noticed the Maserati....
That's the problem with the written word. Sometimes it's unclear to others what you mean, as it was with how I worded the Arsenal thing earlier;)

'On the front' means on the main road where I'm from, not out front of your house.
It just means 'on the front' to me: on the front of anything, unless specified. And as I didn't know that Grant was out, I presumed he was as home, and so 'on the front' meaning on the front of his house.
Anyway, no big deal:)

Are there a lot of mobile businesses in Scotland? I know my mate gets a mobile library, mobile fishmonger, mobile butcher and mobile shop selling everything from clothes pegs to cheap baccy. Just answered my own question

Yep, Fiat Chrysler, also own Alfa Romeo, used to own Ferrari, and if the news is to be believed, very shortly merging with Renault/Nissan! :stalks:

Sunny Portsmouth has been very rainy today.. don't like it at all..

Yup.... and which are all owned by the BMW Group. It's an ok modern car (defo not a proper Maserati), but I could think of much better ways of spending the money!

Had one briefly. But I preferred my Alfa 33, which went like stink for a 1.5!
