British gear is not great imho, just that nutty Hi-Fi dudes seem to think that to be taken serious it had to be british.. Japs were very clever in what they did & the product finish was superb, They just got a bad name with a lot of the very cheap line of products, but at the end of they day they gave jo public exactly what they wanted & the prices they were happy to pay. However the High end stuff most of what never came in to this country or at least in tiny numbers was truly high end in every respect.

I use a Sony 'TA-1055' amp from the mid 70's that sounds a heep better than a lot of British gear i used to have..

Interestingly, both use built in parallel tracking, air bearing, arms - something I’m not so convinced by (in technical terms at least).

I sport my signature with pride because, I love what I have, taken me years and years hifi learning and hard earned money to attain it.

Now it might not float another mans boat but I feel good about it, the sound it makes, the journey, everything.

BTW- I've observed other signatures and then read up on some of the kit I've not heard of or know much about which again has been very enlightening, more hifi knowledge and awareness.

The Versa 2.0 was a stunning turntable, I think air bearing and tonearm was designed by Tim Sheridhan, the man who did much of the Rockport design work. Jhon Bict certainly did well with the visuals I owned one some years back.

I always felt the Bergman reminded me of the versa.

Yes, I agree (which is why I included it actually). Visually the Versa was way ahead of its time and, as you say, shared a lot technically with the Rockport.

Good choice I remember it being highly musical, a bit lacking in the bass. The midrange was simply stunning big and plush.

The Bergman Sindre is a stunning turntable and is an alltime preowned audio bargain.Alot of deck for the dosh as they say. I owned a sindre and later the current Galder great turntables.

John bict had his difficulties, like most of these manufactures who try and achieve SOTA they never made much money and factored in after sales support just like roctport.

I have to say versa when around were very helpful to me on the occasion I had to contact them.

Very rare, Audio Technica T1 and Seiko Epson turntables.

The story is in the early1980sTeragaki-san, was the man who designed “legendary” Seiko-Epson turntable.
Audio Technica reputedly invested sustainably in his turntable development. Though, they decided the market was limited due to the advent of the CD and the marketplace for (equvilant) $50,000 plus TTs was not there was there.

The TT was known as, Audio Technica T1. The list price was likely to have been the equivalent of $100,000!
It had plater vacuum, auto disk centering with liner linear tracking arm. The massive tonearm does not go up and down, the turntable moves up and down! You may note some similarity to a certain Nakamichi!!

In my eyes this is a thing of industrial (brutal) beauty!

There were others in the Sekio Epsom collection.

1987: Σ-3000. List price 2,300K JPY. 10 are known to have been assembled and 6 units actually sold.

Yes I did. I know the bubinga veneer isn’t to everyone’s choice and that’s all good, but apart from that , it looks this way because I’ve put a lot of thought into the design and every aspect serves a good purpose. The classic turntable 301 looks how it looks, can’t do anything about that, but beautiful in my opinion , as does the Tenuto Mat and the track audio isolation feet. Both highly regarded parts and incredibly well engineered. I also like the ideas behind articulating panzer armboards and a high mass panzerholz plinths which is what I chose. The whole Thing weighs about 35-40kg . Ive also added removeable armboard isolation to see how that works. The Reed arm speaks for itself ,it is a stunning piece of kit . Might not be everyone’s cuppa tea visually but I’d put it against anything out there performance wise and it wouldn’t get brushed aside

I'm sure you'll agree that the looks, while beautifully finished, are a bit 'out there', and so will polarise opinion. Doesn’t really matter who created it. If you don’t like it keep your trap shut and move on unless you wanna discuss the pros and cons of the parts used . I don’t ever judge things in such a horribly vocal way because one mans trash is another mans treasure and all that. He hasn’t heard it which is the important part and trust me this is VERY special. looks are indeed a personal choice but this is definitely not that out there, it’s just a 301 in a grainy wooden plinth . The Tenuto and brass weight is a bit blingy but that’s it. Take them away it’s perfectly fine, Anyway I couldn’t give a rats arse got more important things to worry about like having a beer and spinning some tunes . Cheers

Why would you say you liked something just because you knew the owner or builder, that's not right surely?

If you don’t like the CTC 301 , fine tell me why and what experiences brought you to that conclusion.

If you don’t like panzerholz plinths or figured veneers , great let’s discuss your reasoning.

If your not a fan of Reed arms ,track audio feet ,the Art 9 or the Tenuto mat then I’m happy to here you out.

But to rudely shit on something Somebody has worked hard to put together ain’t on .

As you say these things divide opinion as always and people have their own tastes but people need to be mindful of their choice of words they use to reply.

As I said earlier I really don’t care if you like it or not , it’s me that has to live with it. What I do mind is of your a knob about it .

Take a look at the thread title and ask yourself what sort of comments you would expect posting a picture in this thread? The thread is about aesthetics of turntables, not how they sound.

It may sound divine but that's not the topic of this thread. I find it aesthetically displeasing. I don't like the proportions, I don't like the veneer and I don't like the gold bling. If you look back through this thread you will see plenty of positive and negative comments about the appearance of the decks that are pictured because that's what this thread is about!

Had you posted it in the DIY section and said 'look what I built' then I would have course have 'kept my trap shut.' But you didn't, you put it up for aesthetic evaluation and you got some.

Have to agree with Andre here, a fair amount of UK stuff looks pretty basic, we just don't have the backing of the mass markets that Japan had in its heyday to produce more high end stuff. I often wonder why there isn't even an on/off switch on my Brit made turntable, it is something that someone could indeed knock up in their garage.

The turntable that always sticks in my mind is the Clearaudio Master Reference. Like something from an alien world.

It is screaming out for some LED illumination though. :D
