Damn straight Andy!

It was odd Chris, very happy to see it's heart beat and it rolling around and waving it's arms around
It's been a horrible few weeks though, Hannah has some severe disability in quite close family so we have had to see a genetics councillor and get blood tests and wait for results were the outcome was 1 in 4 that she would pass it down ... ... We got results yesterday and they came out fine even now we still have to wait another week to find out 100% in the particular gene hasn't expanded beyond the testing capabilty of the first test ... But the geneticts lady was fairly certain it would be fine ... An as it's 12 weeks tomo (and my birthday) we are setting aside any remaining worry and getting back to celebrating what's happening ... Still, will be nice to get that final all clear next week!!

Fingers crossed from us as well Hamish, we had a simular type of time with our lot as my wife has 3 cousens with Cistic Fibrosis so we went through some tests at the time as well, unfortuanatly there were 2 more cousens that didn't make it as the medical knowledge 50 years ago wasn't so good

Tweeters poked in twice before I saw sense and now leave the grills on (luckily salvaged with a straw) one woofer holed and replaced, and left woofer now looking distinctly misshaped despite grills being on, but doesn't seem to affect the sound  Currently searching ebay everyday for a replacement! This is exactly the reason why I have abandoned plans to upgrade the speakers!

It takes about 22 hours to travel the 10,500 miles between London & Sydney.

Here's a thing - it's only 15 or so miles to the outer edge of the earth's atmosphere. Why don't we go straight up for 15 miles, wait for Sydney to come around, then go back down - that should only take 12 hours or so & it'll save lot of fuel!

Gravity - what's that?

Because they're hoping that if there's one person willing to chuck an unfeasible heap of cash at it, then there just might be another who can spare an equally unfeasible amount who'll bid against 'em. Result - a bidding war, one much richer seller, one much poorer buyer and another buyer who, in the cold light of day will realise that he got off lightly by losing!

this as an email has done the rounds in the office this morning

Subject: Fw: Inland Revenue's Reply

This is a real reply from the Inland Revenue. The Guardian newspaper had to ask for special permission to print it. The funniest part of this is imagining the content of the letter sent to the Tax Office which prompted this reply!

Dear Mr Addison,

I am writing to you to express our thanks for your more than prompt reply to our latest communication, and also to answer some of the points you raise. I will address them, as ever, in order.

Firstly, I must take issue with your description of our last as a "begging letter". It might perhaps more properly be referred to as a "tax demand". This is how we at the Inland Revenue have always, for reasons of accuracy, traditionally referred to such documents.

Secondly, your frustration at our adding to the "endless stream of crapulent whining and panhandling vomited daily through the letterbox on to the doormat" has been noted. However, whilst I have naturally not seen the other letters to which you refer I would cautiously suggest that their being from "pauper councils, Lombardy pirate banking houses and pissant gas-mongerers" might indicate that your decision to "file them next to the toilet in case of emergencies" is at best a little ill-advised. In common with my own organisation, it is unlikely that the senders of these letters do see you as a "lackwit bumpkin" or, come to that, a "sodding charity". More likely they see you as a citizen of Great Britain, with a responsibility to contribute to the upkeep of the nation as a whole.

Which brings me to my next point. Whilst there may be some spirit of truth in your assertion that the taxes you pay "go to shore up the canker-blighted, toppling folly that is the Public Services", a moment's rudimentary calculation ought to disabuse you of the notion that the government in any way expects you to "stump up for the whole damned party" yourself. The estimates you provide for the Chancellor's disbursement of the funds levied by taxation, whilst colourful, are, in fairness, a little off the mark. Less than you seem to imagine is spent on "junkets for Bunterish lickspittles" and "dancing whores" whilst far more than you have accounted for is allocated to, for example, "that box-ticking facade of a university system."

A couple of technical points arising from direct queries:

1. The reason we don't simply write "Muggins" on the envelope has to do with the vagaries of the postal system;

2. You can rest assured that "sucking the very marrow of those with nothing else to give" has never been considered as a practice because even if the Personal Allowance didn't render it irrelevant, the sheer medical logistics involved would make it financially unviable.

I trust this has helped. In the meantime, whilst I would not in any way wish to influence your decision one way or the other, I ought to point out that even if you did choose to "give the whole foul jamboree up and go and live in India" you would still owe us the money.

Please send it to us by Friday..

Yours sincerely,
H J Lee

I'm with you on that one. The wife doesn't seem to see the floor as a thing that needs cleaning, her idea of organising her clothes consists of her making yet another pile, and dusting is something performed only by policemen at a crimescene when looking for fingerprints. It drives me to drink; well, that is, after I've run around the house with hoover and mop.

The arrival of our baby boy has compounded the issue. My life has gone from being in the vicinity of organized, to outright chaos.

A recent spat of inter-dish frivolities carried out by a number of largely irresponsibly unattended pieces of pork and chicken finally drove me to cleaning the oven :(
Being fairly wary of the shelf bought oven cleaners…..the apply wearing gauntlets and gas mask vacating the surrounding area to a radius of 500metres types , this involved a fair amount of elbow grease in addition to the grease which was hanging around the oven at the time.

A day later, ¼ of an inch less on my favorite scraper blade and my local supermarkets entire stock of green pads the job was done. Cooker looks nice though. Strange how visiting females think it’s funny to suggest you nip round and do their cooker

The whole experience was so horrific I’ve broken out the camping kit, reasoning it’s probably easier to bin and replace than go through a major oven clean again.

You think I'm kidding?
Cop this for a pile of shite:

Nevaeh

The name Nevaeh is Heaven spelled backwards, and it has a unique and beautiful sound whether it is spelled one way or the other. This word spelled backwards really is not new, but it is becoming increasingly popular as people find out the meaning and discover that it is simply one of the most beautiful names and words spelled backwards.

Siri

Do you like the name Suri but want a varied spelling of the selection chosen by Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise for their little girl? Siri is the name Iris spelled backwards, and although it is short, it is one of the most unique and beautiful names for girls.

Liryc

When the name Cyril is spelled in the opposite direction it creates an alternate spelling of the beautiful name Liryc. This is an ideal choice when the father of a baby girl is named Cyril. The backwards spelling and new pronunciation is unique and appealing.

Sivad

Surnames can also be spelled backwards to create new and unique names. Spell Davis backwards and the baby name Sivad is created. It is definitely unique and interesting, and it is ideal for a boy.

Semaj

The first name James spelled in the opposite direction turns into Semaj, and this is also one of the most unique names for a baby boy. It would take clever thinking to realize this name is actually the backwards spelling of a very popular choice for boys.

Nalla

If the father of a baby girl is named Alan, what better choice than the backwards version? Nala is Alan spelled backwards, and this unique baby name can be altered to match the various spellings of the male version including Nalla or even Nella.

I have heard of neveah bedew as a name and it was described as heaven spelt backwards with that being the reason why it was so "beautiful" ... I nearly did a bit of sick when I hear that!

Where next ..."I have called my son dog ... ..."

I can't really talk mind, if we have a girl I want to call her "Thursday" ... Hannah actually seems like she thinks it's a good idea too ... ...

Thursday might be fairly unique as a given name, but not necessarily in a good way.
You should name all of your kids carefully - an oddball name can be a burden for them to carry, so pick names wisely.

I for one have no idea how you are suppose to choose a name before you meet the baby??

That's odd you mention the inbetweeners dan as one of the boys names Hannah has mentioned is Blake ... Which is the name of the actor who plays Neil

You could use the practise of the Plains Indians of North America - this could, of course have a downside, as their practise was to name a child after the first thing they saw outside of the Tepee, so you could easily end up with "Two Dogs Shagging".:lolsign:

On a more serious note, I know someone whose forenames are John and Thomas and in that order.
Methinks his parents should have been a bit less innocent in their choice of names; either that, or they knew what they were doing and thought it was funny to choose them.
Either way, he never talks of his parents with any affection - is it any wonder ?

I didn't see that, but yes, they are just big Meccano kits really. And as lots have expensive add-ons like bull bars, knobbly tyres etc. they can be even more attractive to the thieving scum bags, especially as they are very easy to break into. I always block mine in with my wife's car which means they'd have to move that first, but even so, it is a worry, especially if she's out for the day.

Having been prompted by The Grand Wazoo to cut the grass (it's not good enough to be called a lawn), I've now set-to with the dusting and hoovering.

Does anyone know which order the latter two tasks should be done? Logic tells me the dusting of surfaces should be done first, before the vacuuming, but I'm not sure.

And another thing, can anyone tell me how to get rid of those horrible little spiders, with virtually no bodies and very thin legs, that like to lurk in the corners where the ceiling meets the wall? I'm not an arachnophobic, but I detest the webs they make, seemingly overnight, and the detritus they collect. A couple in their mid twenies tucking in when all of a sudden the bird gets up goes to the bar to get herself another drink, while she's gone he's eating grub from her plate then continues to tuck into his when he see's her coming back over...very odd!

After he'd finished his (picking up through lip reading), he makes out he's got something stuck in his tooth so lurches over, picks up her drink, down the neck with it..

To check the time using "123" will cost you 31p, however if you are bored and have some time on your hand, then:

Did you know if you tap in the following sequence of numbers on a modern touch-tone telephone keypad, you play the tune “Frère Jacques”?

I thought this was a bit unusual but agreed to do so.
I got the parcel today - WOW!
The stamps show images from Thunderbirds & they are like those motion cards you used to get in packets of cereal in the 70's. Tilt them to different angles and (for example) Thunderbird 2 goes up the ramp & takes off!

According to some [1], the Universe came into being around 8:30 in the evening on October 22 in the year 4004 BC. That makes the Universe 6,015 years old tonight. Considering that cosmologists claim the Universe is actually 13.7 billion years old, the Old Girl isn’t wearing too badly.

Mind you, according to Harold Camping in Oakland California, God gave Noah a message in 4990 BC (so that would be 986 years before the Universe was created!?), that the destruction “in seven days time”, translates to 7,000 years and thus World will end quietly, yesterday October 21, 2011.

"Because of this terrible economy, I'm having to shut down my business. I have OVER 1300 Pope hats (replicas) that I REALLY need to get rid of. The pope hats came from China and are a little too small for most adult heads and are also irritating to the skin, so you would need to have long hair or wear a smaller hat underneath (just like the REAL POPE). Dogs do not like to wear these pope hats, but maybe a large cat or maybe a nice dog would wear one."

Why is it that alcohol has much more effect at lunchtime than it does in the evening?? It has often puzzled me - usually after two pints in my dinner break when I then fall asleep at my desk in a pool of my own drool... :)

Alcohol is made from fermented wheat and grains. It contains a protein called gluten that has the effect of making you tired. Alcohol is full of carbohydrates and these give your body a sugar 'rush', because they are metabolised quickly; they have a high glycemic index.

Food in the stomach helps absorb the alcohol so it gets into the blood stream slowly. It is likely that at lunch time there is insufficient food in your stomach to absorb the 'lunchtime drinks' (especially if you only have a light breakfast) and so you will get an energy rush. This does not last long which is why, in comparison, you feel sleepy afterwards.

When drinking in the evening, it is likely that the food you eat for lunch will slow down the rate at which alcohol gets into the blood.

Only my thoughts - I'm no expert.

Can anyone explain how and why the 'hair of the dog' works?
