New radial- is it worth it?

Thinking of putting in a radial from the fuse box to my hifi but is this really going to give me a cleaner supply than the ring main when all electrics go back and through the same fuse box?:scratch:

I imagine from knowing your set-up that when you are listening to the stereo there is very little else that is powered up in the house.

Now that you have gained the extra transparency from the change to monoblocks I doubt very much that you will benefit from installing a radial.

It certainly wouldn't do any harm. When I redecorated my living/listening room I had a dedicated ring main installed, consisting of ten double sockets fed from a separate RCB/MCB at the meter. I did this as I dislike having cables running around the room, even if tucked close to the skirting board. Since I use electrostatic speakers which need to be powered, as well as monoblock power amps located immediately behind the speakers, the extra sockets were needed.

Has it made any difference to the SQ? Not in my opinion, but the neatness of the cabling for my audio system gives me peace of mind.

Thanks chaps, may have saved me a lot of time and money! Might just put some more sockets in and be done with it.

BMT does sound a interesting prospect and would certainly cure the buzzing in my Croft transformers!?

I had a radial circuit installed for my downstairs AV system, mainly for convenience of connecting up, but was curious if it made a difference? Thought it maybe sounded a little better but what did make a difference was checking and tightening up every connection in every socket in my house, especially the earth, painstaking process but worthwhile for safety reasons also.

Decided to fit a spur to another double socket which was accomplished at the weekend . A lot of huffing and puffing trying to get three mains cables in one double socket!:eek:

Whilst I was at it I noticed that the earth cables were almost black with oxidation but the live and neutral still nice and shiny, not sure why this would be?:scratch: So outcame the magic fibre glass pen (thanks again Marco) and it was polished up shiny and new. I am not sure about audio but I know from other electrical systems poor earth leads can make a huge difference.

Double silver plated socket now hooked up and with another 4mm power cable with furutech connectors to the Croft monos had a nice source of juice. With all these small but worthwhile adjustments to my power supply and power amps sonic improvements have been gained. Now it would be interesting to know which bit made the biggest difference. If it was cleaning the earth cables this was definitely the cheapest bit!:lol:

Any upgrade and/or improvement to the mains is generally worthwhile particularly to the earthing.
But beware IEE Regs which seem to alter each year.
I go round the house with wire wool and clean and deoxit earth bonding points and retighten or replace.
Cheap and sounds OK after

Those earth conductors may be oxidised because unlike the live and neutral conductors they don't pass any current unless there is a fault condition.

A BMU or Power regenerator can both make noticeable improvements-well worth the investment IMHO.
