Any Air Brush users ?

Anyone on here use air brushes ?
I picked up a Badger set ( Did you see what I did here :) ) in a case from the Boot sale yesterday £20 , includes the pump air line and brush
I have not used one before ,

Just need a heads up on what else I need and a paint recommendation ?

I have several air brushes and sprayguns and a couple of compressors, small and larger.

Keep plenty of universal thinners handy. You'll need it. Not white spirit or turps substitute, unless you plan to use household enamels. Worth keeping an eye on LIDL 'specials', they do a very good universal thinner periodically. It's cheap and of high quality and suits acrylic and cellulose.

Acrylic or cellulose paints are good, get them from eBay or paint specialists. I have been known to use the contents of aerosol car paints cans for air brushing, sounds daft but an airbrush gives you far better control than a spray can nozzle.

Plenty tips online Al... Its not easy to use... is it a single or double action ?

An old mate of mine was an industrial artist(painted and gold leafed all the fancy show machines). Took years to get the technique right

Oh. And don't forget to lacquer anything you want a decent finish on.

And use tanked air if poss.. Air bubbles in paint can cause probs. Its great fun but messy if you get it wrong. Paint needs to be right thickness and dry fastish. Gold leafing was amazing to watch

Yes. A plenum chamber is a bit of a faff, but buffers and smoothes the air flow and catches moisture. Even better if it has a moisture drain. Not really needed on small jobs though, where you are only using an air brushes for short durations.

Sorry for the late reply , Life's been very hectic :eek:

I have both types of air brush , A std push button type and a push and pull back type

Will order some paint / thinners and a wash pot then see what mess I can make :lol:
