I this house for historic reasons, are two, one medium size and one small one. Both Hotpoint that I bought staff Sales about 1986 as I was working GEC Marconi, and GEC owned Hotpoint.

About 10 days ago, the bigger one failed completely. I thought that I would make do with the small one for a bit. Sod's Law, two days ago the small one is failing, cant keep the temp down even with the thermostat on max cooling.

Time to order anew one. Decided to buy on-line a fairly budget one from Co-Op. It's a Candy CSD1365WE. It was just under £200 including free delivery, and collection / disposal of the old unit.

It was delivered today, inside the 1 hour time slot allocated. I was kept informed by email and text. The two delivery guys were excellent, very polite, helpful and very careful. I was worried as to damage to floors, doors etc. due to carelessness, but none here.

The cardboard packing was undamaged, but there was a small dent on the door edge. The delivery guys said no problem, I could have another one on Monday, or I could accept this one with the dent and have a discount of about £25.

This sounded reasonable, as when in position, the dent is not at all obvious. One of the delivery guys phoned head office and I was asked to speak to someone there, he said I could have £35 discount. I said, make it £40 and that will be OK. No hesitation £40 was agreed.

Unit is cooling down now, I am very pleased with the efficiency of Co-Op, and the deal I got.

They treated me as a customer, not a nuisance.

Think that I will email head office and mention how good their delivery guys were.

Nice one Alex :) I always take the trouble to complain when I feel service was poor , however , I also take the trouble to contact the company when I feel that service has gone ''above and beyond '' the norm :)

great to hear of good service from the co-op
we shop there weekly with good service

they recently wanted to build houses on playing fields which we campaigned against and won !! not very green to build on green land when so many brownfield sites
