View Full Version : New Footy Season 2016/17 ..How's your team doing?
much will depend o us beating them again plus celtic. I doubt it and said so earlier, that third is all we will get and we really needed to win that game as Saints won on saturday to give ourselves a cushion. We are kinda playing with 2 of defence thats played no games. Thought Bates looked a bit slow and unable to make decisions. beerman looked much more like the business.

Sea are always exposed on the right as the right full back is never there, although 2 clean sheets in a row is an improvement.
The best signing we've made so far is Brendan Rodgers putting his name to a new four-year contract... Told you he would be here to win us 10-in-a-row! :eyebrows:;)
Marco.
noticed that the other day. He's a good quality manager for Celts. Dunno how long he will stay, but hope he is around for a few years.
...he says through gritted teeth! :D;)
Will be interesting watching the battles between him and Caixinha next season.

no, not really. Think he will be good for Scottish football which in turn will be good for Rangers too.
Yup, that's the way I view any success that Rangers achieve.
I'm also looking for BR to be given some SERIOUS cash this summer, which we should be spending on a world-class centre half, a creative, goalscoring midfielder (in the mould of Moravcik or Nakamura) and another quality striker, to provide adequate cover upfront, even if Dembele stays.
If he manages to get the right players in, I think we'll be virtually unstoppable in the SPL and a formidable force in Europe.
Marco.
ManU did well for both themselves and for league interest in beating Chelsea 2-0. Spurs now only 4 points adrift and the chase for 3 to 7 very close. Going perhaps be an exciting finish.
Another win for Utd, in extra time in Europa cup takes them to the semi's.. could be costly though as 2 players injured.

Its one of them, as is 4th I guess. With Rojho and Ibrahim going off injured, they could end up with nowt marital and Rooney need to start playing for their cash. Can still see them doing both.

Not sure they make it to 4th, too many draws
if they win the 2 games in hand then its all very close between 3 sides. 3rd is possible too. Form between the 3 is similar too with utd slightly the best.(i Think)lol
With it being confirmed Zlatan Ibrahimovic & Marcos Rojo hve suffered cruciate knee-ligament injuries, it will probably end Utd's challenge in both competitions alas. A cruel blow as they were doing well(for them of late).
Big Old Firm cup semi tomorrow with the game starting at noon or 12.30;not sure(i wont be watching as I dont actually watch footie much) I do enjoy being a manager tho lol won my 287th trophy tonight:ner:
I feel Celtic should be up for it enough and should win, but you never can tell with these games... good luck to whoever plays best
Hard luck guys... One of the most one-sided old firm matches I've seen for years, especially the first half, where Rangers hardly laid a glove on Celtic.
Celtic bossed the game, were totally dominant and should've won by four or five. Rangers huffed and puffed, and forced Craig Gordon into making a couple of good saves, but they were outclassed, and so it was largely boys against BHOYS! :eyebrows:
So, it's Aberdeen in the final, and we're one game away now from the treble! However, before that, we've got Rangers again next week at Ibrox... I think it'd be rude not to at least let them win that one ;)

Only one team turned up, Rangers only played for about 10 minutes
By all accounts it was as I expected and s bad day at office. A learning curve I guess but mostly showing the players are not up to it most days
With Utd winning and Liverpool losing it's getting very tight for 3/5
Hard to say who will get what but looks like a close thing at mo
Yeah, Robin, it was a strangely lacklustre performance from Rangers... Also, I thought that Caixinha was rather too cheery in defeat, and a bit too 'pally' with BR after the match.
Whilst he seems a nice guy, I'm not sure he's quite 'grasped' yet the significance of these games. I mean, could you imagine Walter Smith hugging an opposition manager after his Rangers team have just been beaten 2-0 in a cup semi-final?

All they got from Walter was a quick handshake, I'm sure the new Rangers manger has no idea about the Old Firm derby - he has another chance next weekend
no bad thing in my opinion. Far too much animosity as it is without managers leading badly by example.:sofa:

Probably better than the Lennon - McCoist cuddle
Probably better than the Lennon - McCoist cuddle
Indeed... lennon cant seem to avoid poor behaviour of some sort these days. Back to Pedro, and i dont think any fans will hold either his reaction or the permormance against him. Its still the same team that failed with Warburton and you rarely make silk out of a hairy pig,s ear. It will be interesting to see where he goes in transfer market( and how well he is supported). Also no DoF has been appointed yet or even hinted at, so still lots of work ahead. I do find his ideas very much of interest tho
I get where you guys are coming from, no worries, it's just that if it were my team, I'd have preferred the manager to have shown more disappointment in defeat, in a match that let's not forget has effectively ended Rangers season.
I admire 'winners', who absolutely detest losing [alien to their DNA], such as Roy Keane (and yes Neil Lennon too, although I don't condone some of his behaviour), folks with real PASSION and FIRE in their bellies, and at the moment, IMO, Pedro's a bit too laid back for his own good, which I'm not sure the majority of Rangers fans will take to in the long term, if results aren't going well.
As I predicted the last time the two teams met at Parkhead, that Rangers would take something from the game, and did so, I'm confident the same thing will happen again at Ibrox next week, but if Celtic do win, and especially if they do so comfortably, I'm not sure that the big smiles and cuddles afterwards from Pedro, towards the opposition manager, will this time go down quite so well with the home fans.
As for Pedro's long-term success at Rangers, I predicted he'll do well, given the appropriate time and financial support from the board, and I stick by that. Good managers are largely judged by the quality of the signings they make, and how successful they prove to be, so yes it'll be interesting what players he brings in during the summer, and so I'll be following that situation with great interest.
Whatever happens, let's hope you guys (and Aberdeen) can give us a much better challenge next season!
Marco.
Speaking to Pedro, he said he used to be a crazy guy, but age has mellowed him. Cross him though and you will find crazy Pedro damn quick. :D. He has, i believe the evil eye when annoyed  I,d rather the manager show the correct way to behave...in public anyway. Running about or sulking wont do any good. You go into dressingroom and break bones. Just my take.
Yes, but I'm talking about having a steely determination, and fire in your belly, not going around the place sulking... There is a difference! ;)
Given some of the, shall we say, 'dourly determined' characters Rangers have had as managers in the past, such as hugely successful joint treble-winners, Smith and Advocaat, I just think that Pedro should be mindful of not being too 'cheery' when he's just lost a rather important game, and in that respect take a leaf or two out of the books of those past managers.
Anyway, maybe next season he'll be too used to winning, so will have every reason to smile!
Marco.

If nothing else we will find out if Pedro is a quick learner when we do it all again next weekend
I see Joey Barton has been given an 18 month ban for gambling on games by English league. As much as I think its wrong, he does have a major problem which caused this over the years, and the FA and his clubs perhaps should have helped him more. The sentence effectively ends his career and imo is excessive.
A very sad end, if this is the way it is going to end(he is going to appeal). I must say he has been absolutely fantastic for us, player of the season last year and somewhat surprisingly a paragon of virtue too, betting aside! I agree that the ban seems unfairly harsh and I suspect without president in British football. I don't think we will have heard the last of him though!
Rangers side just capitulated period. these are very poor footballers and al need replacing. they are league 1 at best. MANAGER NEEDS FUNDS, BUT HIS PLAN AGAIN WAS EITHER NOT FOLLOWED OR IT WAS MINCE.
Over and out for season

Another poor display well outclassed and could have been worse
Hard luck, lads. I really thought you'd take something from today's game, but it wasn't to be. Lots of work for Pedro to do in the summer! :)
Marco.
It proved they were not up to it in any way, shape or form Mate. Thought Pedro was overly complimentary to them in saying they played better. That was stupid considering they got humped and could have been more.
Its hard to say if the players are just unable, or unwilling to follow his instructions or if his instructions are just plain wrong. personally it may be mostly 50/50 on first 2. But obviously the panel is still out on his ability too.
Old firm sides dont capitulate like that

The level of debt is rather worse that I thought..... I wonder how it'll affect Pedro's summer transfer budget?
Marco.
That was an article 5 years ago mate.:) 5th April 2012.
Yes, but details have come out from the current Craig Whyte trial that the present debt Rangers are in could be at a similar level, and seemingly perhaps rather more....
From the Craig Whyte trial (via Twitter):
Witness Shanks says Rangers debt of £33M was "relatively small in comparison to the overall debt" of Murray Group." #WhyteTrial
Witness Shanks agrees Murray Group owed "hundreds and hundreds of millions of pounds" to the bank.

its all academic as thats the company thats in receivership. still plenty court cases to go before the truth comes out tbh. HMRC are trying to milk it as well. dont see it affecting the current company that runs rangers football club.
feel hmrc are harming the small losers by trying to increase debt as much as they can.

It's bound to have some knock-on effect on the club, mate. Anyway, we'll see what transpires from it all in due course.
Marco.
Sure.. it might but not sure it will. The big issue for them is that git with the silly deal he got from those chancers running club. Newcastle owner. He would have been wise to have renegotiated it as nobody buys the stuff due to it. Better 50% of something than 95% of nothing. So can only conclude he is doing it to damage the club.

Yeah, Mike Ashley... You might find that Craig Whyte actually still owns Rangers! Plus, if this trial goes tits up, Rangers could end up being stripped of titles.
Marco.
Na, they wont happen. Whyte will be lucky to get a suspended sentence I think. fancy 5 years myself. Titles I cannot see. it would cause so much litigation its hard to imagine. Pointless too as whoever was awarded them would hardly be able to boast they won when they didnt.
Believe me there is a lot of courtroom appearances to go. Im surprised that whyte was the only one in court so far. Charlie Green deserves a stretch too
I note that Gers got out of jail today, with two late goals against Partick Thistle.... Didn't see the match, so don't know what the performance was like. Hopefully better than last week?
Late goals in games (think of the 3-0 win at Pittodrie, the 1-1 draw at Celtic Park and now this), seems to be a feature of the 'Caixinha era', which I guess is no bad thing. Scoring late on gives the opposition little time to fight back, but it's a bit of a nerve-jangler for the fans!
Anyway, apparently the board will be backing Caixinha with a "considerable sum" of cash, which will allow him to sign a load of new players in the summer.
He'll need it, to finish above Aberdeen next season, let alone Celtic, who will also be investing heavily, but with a view of progressing to the latter stages of the Champions League, which scarily for the rest of the teams in the SPL will simply take them to another level.
In terms of Rangers, the only players I'd keep from the current team are Fotheringham, Hill, McKay and Miller, and in a better team, Joe Garner could *perhaps* flourish and show why he cost nearly £2m. The rest are well below Rangers standard and need to go, but that might not be easy, as some of them are on 2-3 year contracts and won't want to move anywhere for less money....
In any case, the respective transfer dealings of both old firm teams in the summer, will be most interesting, and in terms of Rangers, Pedro will *have* to get it right!
Marco.
think he wants to replace a wheen of them. trouble is getting shot of the ones we have. as per they are on too high wage.
ps I'm told they were rubbish. I forgot all about it tbh
rmcin626
07-05-2017, 17:26
The first goal was Rangers first shot on target and the second was their only other attempt, woeful Thistle should have won.
Tactics and performance way below what was required
Another 'unattractive' win for the Gers today (2-1 against Hearts), but a win nonetheless... I honestly think that, despite what many Rangers fans think (listening to the radio phone ins) Pedro deserves a chance and can bring some success to the club.
Marco.
yes, get 3rd wrapped up and thus Europe next season, however short lived it may be, and playing like that it will be. thought rangers bossed it all the way tbh and stats agree. Hearts will miss out now I expect as st's should get 4th.
Pedro has plans agreed in principle to add to squad and offload close season and is giving players a short break only to get them ready which is imo correct.
Certain, that he will have to do better next season.
Celtic 2 Hearts 0
That's us now got SIX IN A ROW...

Unbeaten by domestic opposition for a full season - that's pretty rare.

Cheers, Chris. Yup, unbeaten all season is a superb achievement. It's not easy either, even though the standard in the Scottish Premiership isn't anything like as high as in the English one, because when you're Celtic, other teams treat playing you as their cup final, and so are desperate to beat you - and EVERY match is like that, so you always have to be at the top of your game.
Therefore, mental toughness, as well as ability, is the key... Aberdeen, in a one-off game, could still beat us next week in the Scottish cup final, but the truth is we're operating now at a totally different level to any other team in Scotland, and that's set to remain for the foreseeable future.
However, there's no way Celtic will go next season unbeaten *if* Brendan Rodgers achieves his target of getting the team to the last 16 of the Champions League, because that will take its toll. The early exit from the group stages this season was one of the reasons we could focus so much on the league.
Anyway, could you have a word with Pep and ask him either if we can have Patrick Roberts on loan for another season, or if we can sign him, lol?
He's been absolutely outstanding for us all season, and getting better all the time, particularly in the last few games where he's really showed his class. If he goes back to City, do you feel he's got a realistic chance of getting into their first team?
For me, retaining the services of both him and Dembele will be absolutely crucial to Celtic's chances in Europe.
I'm reasonably confident about Dembele, as I think he'll want to stay and have another go at the CL, which he probably wouldn't get at any other team he'd sign for now, plus he'll want to be a part of Brendan Rodgers building something special at Celtic for at least another season - and if he shines in the CL qualifiers (and CL proper), just think what he could be worth then, probably £45-50 million (for a player who cost us only £500k)....
That would be my ideal scenario, and then after selling him the following year for that type of money, most likely to one of the bigger teams in the EPL, that would be a tremendous cash injection for the club to invest in more top-class players, which would both keep us at the top of the pile in Scotland, and maintain our challenge in Europe.
Anyway, no doubt that, regardless of that, BR will be adding some real quality to the squad in the summer, so I'm really looking forward to next season. Who knows our teams might meet again in the CL? ;)
Marco.
I'm saying nothing about next season until we see if there are any decent signings. Although it's clear when it comes to tactics The Celtic manager has the edge.
Celtic games aside, if you actually add up the points Pedro's won, since he took charge of the team, bearing in mind NONE of them were his players, he's actually done quite well. That's why I think he'll do ok next season if he can add a few decent players in the summer transfer window, crucially who are able to carry out his instructions/execute his game plan properly, which I think is currently his biggest problem.
The key areas for you, I feel, are a couple of physically big, ball-winning centre backs, a leader in the middle of the park (John Brown or Stuart McCall type) who can control and dictate play, and couple of wingers, to ping crosses in for Kenny Miller and Joe Garner, the latter whom I predict will be Rangers' (and possibly one of the league's) top scorers next season! :)
Marco.

I'm looking forward to seeing him back. If you go back 18 months you'll remember me telling you he's a very promising player.
Whether or not Guardiola thinks he's got what it takes to be in a Guardiola team is not something I'd declare anything on.
He's made some very strange decisions has Guardiola.
That said, I see Pat Roberts as a natural successor to David Silva.
Silva has been excellent this season, but as each season passes the inevitable gets closer.
Maybe Guardiola is taking a similar view. Who knows?

next season will be an interesting one on many levels I think/ Hard to say how it will pan out yet but if Celtic continue in the same form then they should be hard to beat over a season. Yeah, you could be right. We've got James Forrest, who's a similar type of player, and on his day excellent, but at the moment Roberts is different class. If Pep does decide to give him a run in the team, then I think he'll reap the rewards, as will indeed the team, and Patrick will turn into one of the best players in the EPL, if not also in Europe. Trust me, he is *that* good!
However, aside from what Pep wants, it'll also ultimately come down to what Patrick himself wants, as it's all very well being seen as the natural successor to Silva, but if he's not getting a regular game and just warming his bum on the bench at City, or worse playing with the reserves, then he'll not be happy, and it would be a far cry from what he'd have been doing instead next season, had he stayed at Celtic!
Time will tell, so we'll see what happens :)

Yes, we *need* a proper challenge! I think Hibs coming up (with Neil Lennon at the helm) will make things rather 'interesting' next season, especially in the games against Celtic and Rangers. I hope Dundee Utd join them too, as they deserve to be in the SPL. Not sad to see Inverness Caley go down, though... ;)

dont see utd getting there. Hamilton are a better side imo. Still think a rejuggle of British footy is overdue. must have missed that. TBH they need to strengthen pretty much everywhere.;) much depends on who goes and if we can get them out. certainly need some good midfielders and full backs, plus central defenders and wingers; plus maybe some strikers too:rfl::rfl:
He did indeed, and scored at the Etihad, in the 1-1 draw (a game, much like the one at Celtic Park, we were unlucky not to win) :)
Marco.
change that, Im getting mixed up with tierney.. doh. (I might add I like him) no, Roberts is an attacking mid. yes no chance of him staying with celtic alas for you. will achieve silly money, unless City go for a part exchange for Dembele
I take your point about Hamilton, but Dundee Utd are a bigger club and traditionally more used to playing consistently in the top league. We'll see what happens in the final playoff, and may the best team win!
I think you're underestimating Hibs, especially the influence of the NL factor, and how tactically astute he is and can get the most out of his players. After BR, in terms of current CVs, Lennon is certainly the best manager in the SPL, as when he was at Celtic, he guided them to the last 16 of the Champions League, beating Barcelona in the process!
Let's see who Hibs sign in the summer, and what kind of quality their squad has, by the time next season starts (Kris Commons will almost certainly be a part of it, I think, as will Anthony Stokes), so there's two quality ex-Celtic players, with goals in them, whom I'm sure will make a big contribution to the success of Hibs next season, which is why I predict them to finish in the top four :)
Marco.
suppose then next question is does City manager play a overlapping full back. guess also plays as a wide mid. If the answer is yes then he will be in their side as he is a good player. If not then will be sold while he has value, and might be out of celtic's price range
Sure, but trust me, Celtic could afford him, and would push the boat out if necessary to secure the services of such a tried and tested player. Plus, he absolutely loves playing for Celtic, and has a wonderful rapport with the fans, the likes of which I've not seen since Henrik Larsson was there! :)
Honestly, *if* Guardiola decides that Roberts is surplus to requirements, and wants to sell him while he still has value, Celtic will be favourites to sign him. My gut feeling though, is that he'll be staying at City.
Marco.

Sorry mate, I disagree... He cost City £13m, from Fulham (in 2015), and I doubt he'll have gone up more in value since, simply from playing in the SPL (Celtic's relatively short CL campaign this season aside), so I reckon that if Guardiola was willing to let Roberts go, Celtic would get him for nearer the £8m mark, which given the Champions League money earned this season, they certainly could afford!
However, the Dembele angle you mention is interesting, and I wouldn't be averse to that, in order to retain the services of Roberts, as long as what was left from his transfer fee went on a top-notch replacement. Tierney came through the youth academy at Celtic, but since you've brought him up, would also be worth a fair bit of dosh, as he's now a full Scotland International.
Marco.
Wages are the big bugbear if a prem side wants him then the silly wages they offer will scupper most things to most people. you giving him 30k and a side saying 80k its gotta turn a boys head. thats how we lost gilmour. Chelsea offered him a huge wage for a 16 yr old, just on the chance he makes it.
hope you do though
Yeah I agree, but the difference is Roberts loves playing for Celtic (and in front of 60,000 fans at every home game), with the potential next season of having a real crack at the Champions League, and winning some virtually guaranteed domestic trophies, so where else is he likely to get that on a regular basis, and also at such a crucial stage of his career?
Earning big money is one thing (and if he should sign for Celtic, he won't exactly be a pauper - they're already paying his wages for City), but means little in the long term if you're not playing regular first-team football. In any case, I don't think he's that kind of lad (driven purely by money).
That's why I'm absolutely certain that *if* Guardiola should let him go (which unfortunately right now I doubt), Celtic will be the overwhelming favourites to land his signature :)
Marco.

Nice one. For me, with Jose at the helm (who has a superb record in Europe), the result was never in doubt. He did the same with Porto (at Celtic's expense) in 2003, which was a far greater achievement, and it subsequently launched him into the big time.
I'm pleased with the result, not only because Utd are my third team (after Celtic and Liverpool), but because the Champions League needs teams like Man Utd! :)
I have a hunch that Celtic will face them at some point next season....
Marco.
second trophy of season and a decent finish in league too although might have been better if we didnt lose some top players. Hoping some more big players come in next season. Its becoming a tough league
Well, he's had time now to properly implement his ideas into the team and the whole set-up at Utd, so is now reaping the rewards...
Hey, maybe it'll turn out the same for Pedro, and next season will be the year for Portuguese managers! ;)

Lol. Yes well done to all.
Was a close game but strength told in end
Onwards now to the Euro qualifiers for all. [emoji57]
Seems like it, mate. I recorded the game (as I was busy stripping down doors for our new kitchen) and will watch it tomorrow with my dad. Given the way the match went, I'd have been a nervous wreck (and probably sick), watching it live!!
Congrats to Aberdeen for pushing us all the way and giving us a good match, which makes up for the hapless effort they produced in the League Cup final.
However, for Celtic to go all season in the league unbeaten, achieving the highest points total in history and scoring the most goals, whilst conceding the fewest, winning the league cup without losing a single goal, and finally the Scottish Cup, in such a thrilling fashion (the Celtic way is never give up and keep going until the end), with virtually a LAST SECOND winner, is the stuff of dreams! :)
And as such, Brendan Rodgers will now be immortalised in the minds of all Celtic fans, who in terms of a manager, is right up there with the greats, such as Martin O'Neil and Jock Stein.
Roll on next season, along with making some top-notch signings in the summer, and let's go one better than this year, by reaching the last 16 of the Champions League!!

Huddersfield Town? Lol... Let's hope it changes their fortunes beyond recognition! :)
The irony of course is a 'wee diddy team' like that will probably now earn more than Celtic next year! ;)
Marco.
Size isn't everything lol
A couple of new signings in for Gers.. Alves and Jack. Fairly pleased with both. good players and more like the ability and passion we need:lol:
Yeah, both should be decent. Only doubt would be if Alves can hack the physicality of the SPL, and the often nasty weather in Scotland!! ;)
You know the kind of thing: a midweek trip to Dingwall on a rainy, freezing cold November evening......... How will he handle that...? :hmm:
Marco.
Defo and more guys like that to come but just got to hope their pros and seen worse. Like the s Americans may have
Indeed... To my knowledge, he'll be the first Portuguese footballer to play in the SPL - most end up in Brazil, and for good reason! ;)
However, if he handles that ok, I think he'll help shore up your defence no end.

He was a good player but didn't do it enough in a Rangers jersey
That's the problem with a lot of foreigners, especially ones from warm climates and totally different cultures. Some settle into life in Scotland, including the fast, physical style of football required in the SPL, and some don't...
I hope for the sake of all Rangers fans, and from the point of view of giving Celtic some sort of challenge next season, that Alves (and indeed all of Rangers' new foreign summer signings) come into the former category :)

Its always a bit of a lottery. Alves has a good cv but its just that..a cv. if he can do what he did for Portugal then fine, he will be good. But we need to take these players now as we will never be in a position to buy top rated players. Jack i have few fears about. sound performer.

Which is why we belong in the EPL, so we can realise our full potential (as we've outgrown the SPL) - that's an old story, though!!
However, we'll earn a damn sight more than £3m in the Champions League (providing we get through the qualifiers), especially if we reach the last 16! ;)

Trouble is their teams wont vote for it as its against their interests. One cant blame them either with those amounts. Hddersfield wont spend silly if i know their owner and will slide back down if nes with lovely parachute payments. If he gets a chance he will sell. Its xmas for him financially

Unfortunately true, but I think the FANS of the top teams (Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd, Man City, etc) would grow to like it [visiting Celtic Park, with the huge crowd and the type of atmosphere that there is], and in that respect Celtic would be a big asset to the Premiership, but sadly it's all about money these days, not football!

Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Watford, Southampton and Bournemouth are all over 400 miles from Glasgow.
I don't think you'd find many supporters happy about 800 mile and more round trips to and from games.
The nearest away game for Celtic fans would be Burnley, with a roundabout journey of 400 miles or so.
It wouldn't work.
Too much travel cost, and too much time on the road every second game would wear very thin, very quickly.
One other thing.
It's the English Premier League.
I thought your lot wanted their freedom :eyebrows:

Yes, but it in reality it takes just as long (or longer), for fans to get from, say, Dumfries to Dingwall [due to lack of transport and motorway links/networks], when Celtic play Ross County! ;)
In any case, distance doesn't seem to stop our fans travelling in their tens of thousands to Champions League away games in England, and never has done... Look at how many we took to your place this season - and that would continue for league games, no problem.
You're underestimating the passion and dedication of the Celtic support, Chris! The road and rail links to the south are so much better than up north, so that would help level the playing field, in terms of travelling distance. Moreover, fans would have to travel a damn sight further than Southampton, if the proposed 'Atlantic League' comes to fruition....
Trust me, they would *find* a way of getting to games, especially because of the potential involved, both in terms of excitement and how the money earned would allow Celtic to become the size of club, financially, that their HUGE worldwide fan base and established history already makes them out with of wealth.
In that respect, the ONLY thing arguably making Man City a bigger club than Celtic, is money!

Lol... And as you know, we've been here before. That doesn't seem to stop Welsh teams from playing in it! Or for that matter, English teams, such as Berwick Rangers, playing in Scottish League Two....
*Anything* can be made to work, when the 'powers that be' decide/want it to. The problem is, that in the case of Celtic being a part of the EPL, they don't!

Anything is better than Waghorn
We were so bloody unlucky at the end!
England were defo the better team overall (by a significant margin), but Griffo's two goals from free kicks were WORLD CLASS!! *That* is why he's too good to continually play second fiddle to Dembele, who despite being a superb striker, can't hit free kicks like Griffiths can... The guy is a dead-ball expert. Nakamura would've been proud of those two goals he scored!
Message to Brendan Rodgers: FIND a way, somehow, to keep Griffiths in the Celtic team, as it will pay dividends.............
However, I have to say that Craig Gordon looked decidedly shaky and uncertain, which recently has been unusual for him, and he was arguably at fault for both goals, certainly the first one, although he may have been a little unsighted. The second one, he should have gone out and collected the ball, instead of staying on his line. Great finish from Kane, though.
All in all, an excellent game, especially the last 10 minutes, but for Scotland it's a case of what might have been... Still, it was a good point in a game that they looked like losing until Griffo scored those two wonder goals, which undoubtedly will live long in his memory!
Qualification is still on, although it won't be easy, but then things never are for Scotland.

The timing of the game was a bit unfortunate - league seasons only finished a couple of weeks ago, and players on both sides have not had any proper down time since the season's end.
And they played like it!
They should all be having a relax, but FIFA thought better of it.
The only real glimmers of light were the goals, which were all top class.

Probably a lot less than we'll hear Celtic supporters blathering on about winning a European Cup over 50 years ago ;)
There are plenty of up and coming players that did their careers no harm doing well at this competition - just ask Saviola, Messi, Aguero, and Pogba.
Had Patrick Roberts not picked up a hamstring injury he might well have joined the England U20s, and picked up another gong for the season.
From an England perspective, we have a group of youngsters that are more likely than not going to have an impact on the senior team.

Hahaha.... At least we've won it, unlike your lot, and with a team full of Scots too, the sum total of which would've cost less than the average bar bill per head for supporters in your executive box! :ner:

Yup, and I'm all for that. One of the main reasons why England, 1990 aside, have faired so poorly in tournaments since 1966, is because there are too many foreigners playing for Premiership teams, which means that young English talent doesn't get given a proper chance.
Let's hope that England's success in the U20s helps reverse that trend a little! :)
Marco.
I see Daniel Candeias joins Gers from Benfica to become Pedro Caixinha's fifth signing of close season. I dont know anything about him but hope he is decent. Played with a German ad French side on loan so must have something. Still got another 3 that I know about in pipeline. Such a new side is obviously going to take time to gel and there is no time, Still it had to be done I guess.
