View Full Version : New Footy Season 2016/17 ..How's your team doing?
Cheers, mate :)
Is that including all the ones those dodgy refs helped you win?;)
Wot - the 249th jobby you've dropped down the pan this year, lol? :D
Hope you're feeling a bit better today, btw.
Marco.
cheers, and slightly. Enjoyed a few trophies of late tbh. Gers still struggling tbh, and my info is they wont now be spending as planned because David thinks they are doing so well..(ie he thinks he can get away with it and has adopted the old Celtic biscuit tin mentality) so be it, but its a mistake if it comes to pass.;)

Nothing more to be said the better team won.
as expected . way to big and strong for us.
Sorry, who are you talking about, Celtic?
Ah, I see now, the Hearts game with Rangers. Forgot it was on. You guys have a habit of just 'announcing' stuff on the thread, with no introduction, and expecting folks to know what you're on about! ;)
Anyway, it's teams like Hearts you'll have to beat if you want to finish second..... And besides, when we win all our games in hand the league will effectively be over!! :ner::D
;)
Marco.
A performance like that deserves no introduction tbh. ;) Piss poor and should have been many more in fairness.

Tatically very poor by Warbs and not for the first time

Lol.... I was too busy listening to music on the new RPi I've installed in conjunction with the home-cinema system, along with the latest version of Moode (Release: 3.0 2016-11-27). Have you got it? There's an advanced Linux Kernel in the system settings that really does improve sound quality! :)

If I'd remembered, I'd have watched it. Hearts are a good team, though. They gave us a very hard game at Tynecastle in the first match of the season. We've got a bit better since then, though.
Consistency is what Rangers lack, and also when they're winning games, it's always the hard way, either coming back from a goal down or scoring a goal to win in the dying minutes! They seem to have lost the ability to 'cuff' teams like they once had...
Marco.

Marco.
Yup, ive got moode 3 with advanced kernel installed. sounds very good to me. ust the same old rpi though.
Nice one :)
I'm also using the RPi wirelessly here, without a network cable connected from the router, as would be normal. Sounds great and works seamlessly :)
Marco.
Ive never got a wifi dingle to work ever. if your on rpi3 it has its own I think. Happy enough with the cable at moment as its situated close to the router anyway. I did kinda think of moving system elsewhere but it would cause too many problems and I aint really well enough to be bothered now quite frankly. But as I said it does sound better I think and is not just a placebo.. still to get a good listen, so I can try bit perfect 16 44, but at top upscale its deffo the biz. You using it downstairs with the new cinema gear then?
Yup, running it through the Sony AV amp (in 'pure direct' sound mode) with the Paul Hynes PSU. and it sounds great. Didn't want any ugly cables going from the hall (where the router is) to the lounge, where the RPi resides, so running it wirelessly was the answer.
I can detect no degradation in sound quality from a wired connection, or indeed in terms of the stability of the streaming :)
Marco.
Great result for Rangers today at Ibrox! Is this them having turned the corner, I wonder, and so should we be welcoming a title challenge now? ;)
We won a seven-goal thriller at Fir Park, coming back from two-nil down!:)
Kolo Toure's a liability in defence right now, and clearly off the pace.... We're not solid defensively without Sviatchenko in the back four, who was unfortunately ill today. Credit to Motherwell, however, who were excellent and really pressed us hard, well in the first half anyway. In the second half it was a different ball game.
Winning that sort of match though, not being at your best but having that never-say-die attitude and guile to produce a winner in the 90th minute, is the mark of champions. Credit goes to the team's fitness, too!
Good result for Chelsea (only for Chelsea fans, though) against Man City. Chris will be very disappointed, especially being at home and 1-0 up.... I'll be supporting Liverpool tomorrow, watching the game for the first time in UHD!
Everton vs. Man Utd should also be good.
Marco.
Forgot it was Saturday....again  Yes, just had a quick read.. seems an even match throughout and Gers sneaking it. Nearly 2-0 too. a bit of a bad tempered end as is usual and 2 players off after the 90. If we classify its all about results, the its good 3 pts and move on. Dons are a good side.
They dont carry the same "big" threat that hearts do so perhaps easier to manage
There's always aggro between Aberdeen and Rangers supporters. I honestly think the hatred there is worse these days than with Celtic and Rangers... Still, a great 3 points for the Gers, and for me, their first 'serious' win of the season. The key will be whether they can build on it and follow up with a win in their next match - and then there's the big one the following week at Ibrox...

Liked the passing move with the second goal, which was nicely finished off by Hodson :)

Agree well worked and taken goal
THE BIG MATCH: how will it go? :hmm: :)
This match is 'meaningless' for Celtic, insofar as qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League. No matter the result tonight, we're out, so in that respect the pressure is off and that should help the players relax and enjoy the occasion.
However, there's still pride to play for, and of course Man City will most certainly want to win and cement their second-placed position...
The thing for me that makes these games special, and usually elevates the players to perform at their highest level, is the 'Battle of Britain' factor, which is what made the first encounter special between the two teams at Celtic Park. I'm expecting this one to be the same - a cracker!
Undoubtedly, if Man City play to their full potential, then Celtic could be on the end of a hiding, so we'll need all our players to be on top form tonight to take anything away from the Etihad.
Let's hope we're in for a great match, and may the best team win!!
Marco.
City are likely to play a few fringe players in this so that may help Celtic's cause; but also if they want to show what they can do, it may do the opposite. Time will tell. G Luck anyways, and hope at least its entertaining
A draw was a pretty fair result overall, with both teams having penalty claims, bit IMO, Celtic's was the stronger. Two superb goals, and overall I think Celtic just edged it on chances and overall possession, which again like the first game (playing City's '1st team'), and getting a 3-3 draw in Glasgow, was amazing considering the enormous gulf in spending power between both clubs
£40m for Sané alone, never mind the rest.... And yet Celtic were far from outclassed, and indeed controlled large parts of the game at the Etihad. As Chris Sutton said at the end of the game, what could Celtic do, and just how good could they be, if they had access to the type of money Man City have from playing in the EPL? A very good question indeed, Chris!! ;)

For such an inconsequential game it was a decent enough match.
City didn't need anything from the game (our aggregate score over BMG saw us through), and Guardiola did what I expected, and played more of the young players coming through the ranks.
It was important that Kelechi Iheanacho had a good game - he's going to see a lot of game time, courtesy of Sergio's indiscretion on Saturday.
It was good to see Willie Caballero get a game too - I'm scratching my head why Hart was exiled to make room for Guardiola's second choice keeper (Bravo), 'cos he's shite (Bravo).
Willie should be our first choice keeper.
It was hilarious watching Guardiola on the touchline - the way he laid into certain players warming up raised a good few chuckles :)
Negatives?
My Niece works on the matchday security team, and she had more than a couple of death threats from pissed up Celtic fans. Nice way to go, guys, and so much for your alleged reputation for being well behaved :nono:
I'll say nothing about the fighting in the away supporters area.

Every team has their minority of idiot 'fans', Chris; with big teams and the size of their support, it's inevitable. However, I can assure you what you're referring to is not representative of the majority of Celtic fans, and their good reputation is known worldwide, which is why Celtic are invited to play in so many friendlies.
Please give my apologies to your niece on behalf of the decent (majority) of Celtic fans, for the behaviour of some dickheads. I hope they're caught and get their just desserts.
It may have been an "inconsequential" game for City, in terms of qualification for the last 16, but you can bet your boots that Guardiola (and the players he put on the park) wanted to win! ;)

We seldom see any trouble from opposition supporters on match day, so it stands out a bit when it happens.

Lol... Throwing a burger at a horse!
Undoubtedly a stupid thing to do, but hardly an indicator of the inherent nature of Celtic fans, nor indeed were any of the other arrests for minor offences.
I believe that there were around 4000 Celtic fans inside your ground [which incidentally at times during the match, although vastly outnumbered, were out-singing your lot], and probably many more around Manchester who couldn't get tickets, so 14 arrests, including or not the idiots your niece mentioned, I don't think that's too bad, considering the game's 'Battle of Britain' factor ;)
Btw, for a giggle, read this: http://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/three-reasons-celtic-better-club-12282125
I'm not saying I agree though with what's written, but I do think they've got a point about Maine Road and a lack of atmosphere in the Etihad, in comparison...
Anyway, off to my scratcher now! :goodnight:
Marco.
P.S Yes, Patrick was voted man of the match. I think Pep liked what he saw, so maybe he'll get some games next season? I think he deserves it.
Seemed like a good match, but not as many goals this time. Arsenal did well too and topped group. Not so sure thats going to benefit them though judging by who will be in seconds pot
Man U won 2-0 away to qualify for next stage of Europa cup, with Mkhitaryan getting his first goal for club. Glad to see him getting some games as I rate him.
Another win today for the Gers... This is becoming a habit now! :D

At moment Leic are giving City a drubbing, leading 3-0. About time they scored some of their euro goals into prem, as they were languishing

When you're 2 down after 5 minutes you know it's going to take a miracle to get a result.
I'm left wondering how long it's going to take Guardiola to accept that the defence is the foundation of any team, and that defence needs to have a player at the back that can stop shots first and foremost.
I've not got a problem with the way our allegedly "World Class" keeper reacted during the first goal, but for the rest .......
Defensively we were all over the shop for the first 30 minutes.
As for our goals - it was too little too late, yet again
Chelsea and Utd both won today while Liverpool drew 2-2 with as many defensive frailties as City it seems. Maybe its the quality of the strikers? Anyways Chelsea are top and clear by 3 from Arsenal, who are again clear by 3 from Liverpool in 3rd. Utd languish back in 6th, but 13 points adrift already.

Tight game tonight at Celtic Park, with Leigh Griffiths on the score sheet again, scoring the only goal, but teaming up well with Dembele up front, in a rare outing for both of them together. Anyway, that's us 11 points clear at the top, with only two games left in hand now! ;)
Happy days

indeed I saw that. we go there on friday so hope youve tired them out  I see Arsenal have lost tonight now. Certainly becoming a strange prem title.
Lol... Hamilton are traditionally one of your bogey teams, so that could be a tough one. Or the chance to avenge the 1-1 draw earlier in the season at Ibrox. If you can make it three wins in a row, I'll start to feel worried about a title challenge! :D

well, 3 in a row it is... 2-1 away to Hamilton, although more comfortable than score suggests. 2 goals from the returned from the rest house, Waghorn. On another point, i dont see how a midfield player can be classed as an emergency signing  but Hibs and Celtic have contrived it. Yup, very poor show from them and Hearts. If it wasn't for you guys, the league would genuinely be over before Christmas!
We maintained our 11-point lead with a hard-worked 2-1 win against Dundee, where Leigh Griffiths scored a stunning free-kick, which is something that Dembele doesn't really do. Glad to see he's back in the team and scoring goals. He's WAY too good a player to keep on the bench.
BR has to find a way of playing him and Dembele more often, as it will pay dividends.

Liverpool got a very late winner v Toffees in the Mersey Derby. They deserved it too and go above City into second. Close in these positions tbh but Chelski seem well out in front. Trouble is now to predict their fall from grace. Every side so far has collapsed at top so will they? They seem a fairly tight unit but it doesnt take much for confidence to drain...............

Well out in front?
It's not even bloody Christmas yet.
We haven't even reached the half way point of the season.
Chelsea being six points ahead at this point of the season is of no consequence.
If we were in April it would be significant.
6 points is a good lead to me.:) I agreed there was a long way to go.
Up in Scotland tbh it was all over before season started. ..again which is sad, and devalues the competition. Wish we could get back to the days when there were 4/5 teams in with a chance, but dont see it happening. But all gers fans and fans of other clubs can do is support and applaud improvement. I,m pleased Rangers manager has seen the light and altered his philosophy somewhat

Another big win for Celtic tonight
More points that goals but, yes, they are 14 pts clear with game in hand. as i said, it was always going to be this way, especially if Rangers were going to be competitive within the division. 4 chasing sides all doing themselves to death while celtic cruise away. Handy for them, but crowds will probably diminish somewhat everywhere as a result, including Celtic park. As they again can get the only bite of Euro cash cow, then the gap continues to grow. Its a little different in England now as all teams get a fair bit of money but the euro cash usually goes to the same sides. Of course this is what the big clubs want, and are building barricades to protect.
Sam Allardyce has been appointed Crystal Palace manager, as Alan Pardew is sacked. Not overly surprising overall as Big Sam is good at saving clubs from the drop, and it now is so costly that it has to be avoided(or so it seems) Pardew was doing well for a while but its not worked this season and Sam will get the 2 main routes sorted pronto. Defend properly and punt it up and punt it in. No bad thing initially and the fancier stuff comes later. Always liked Sam.
In Scotland Aberdeen got back to winning ways, but Hearts gave up a 2 goal lead and lost 3-2 to Dundee. They are slipping off the pace and new manager Cathro is still to gain a win. Thistle, managed to get off bottom as well with a rare win.

yup, poor performance tbh. first 30 mins or so we were good but then gave it all away with a stupid back pass. For all the possession and chances created about 70% were off target. Thats not acceptable from a professional side period, far less Rangers. They looked better before they changed shape too. Still, it was the score I predicted so not entirely unexpected.
You guys just can't handle the pressure of winning! ;)

As we are playing at home I am hopefully of at least a draw, don't think today's game has been hyped as much as usual so might pass fairly quietly.
Kinda as expected. Did well enough for first 30 and deserved to be in front, but capitulated after that. Not good enough, both team and coaching staff. Without breaking the club, the board need to find some better players.
Still, it was an improvement.

Could have been a lot worse and if we had taken a couple of very decent chances it could have a lot better. We need better players, but a couple decent performances.
Hard luck, guys. A much closer game than the last one at Celtic Park, which I knew would be the case. I honestly thought that Rangers would get something from the game today, and they did: they got their pride back!
Celtic weren't 'at the races' at all in the first 30 minutes of the match, and as such there was only one team in it, so Rangers deserved to take the lead with a well created and taken goal. Their desire and passion to press Celtic high up the park was paying dividends, and Celtic looked like they were still in Christmas holiday mode... Then Moussa struck before half-time to level things, with a superb goal, and from then on Celtic didn't look back.
In the second half it was pretty much all one-way traffic towards the Rangers goal, as Celtic flexed their muscles and showed their class. BR brought on Patrick Roberts, who was excellent and created the winning goal for Scott Sinclair. It might have been different if Kenny Miller had managed to score instead of sclaffing his shot off the post, to make it 2-2, but I felt that even if that had happened Celtic would've still found the winner, such was their dominance by that point.
Indeed, if it hadn't been for the Rangers goalkeeper, who had a superb match, making some great saves, the scoreline would've been rather worse for Rangers, and if Celtic had gone on to win 3 or 4-1, I don't think many would've said it wouldn't have been justified.
Quite simply, in the end (as is always the case), class showed and the better team overall won. However, I still think that Rangers can take heart from the performance they put in, especially in the second half, and if they can sign a couple of quality players in the January transfer window, which I fully expect them to do, they will go onto finish second and have a major say in who wins the Scottish Cup.
For Celtic, we've had a great year and I think we'll now go onto win the league by a record margin of points. How much that will be exactly, time will tell. As soon as it's mathematically impossible for them to lose the title, it'll be interesting to see what team Brendan Rodgers fields for the remaining SPL games, as his focus will be on the Scottish Cup and winning the treble in his first season as Celtic manager, something that Martin O'Neill achieved when he arrived at the club, and I'm sure that Brendan would've targeted privately as one of his goals for this season.
However, next season is where he'll really be judged and how the team performs in the Champions League, should Celtic successfully get through the qualifying rounds. I'm looking for big money to be spent on the team in the close season (not necessarily in January), and for us to use the money we've made this year prudently, and perhaps the £10-15m we'll get for Dembele, should he leave at the end of the season. If he does, with that and the CL cash we've earned this year, we'll have serious money to spend on strengthening the team and really having a go at the big boys in Europe next season!!
Happy New Year everyone

Marco.
The best team won in the end Marco, disappointing to lose at home, now time for the board to step up and we need a a couple of qulaity signings, which will probably been loan deals. Thought our keeper had his best game for which was good to see can't say the same for a couple of the others though.
...and you to Marco..:)
Tavinier was our weakest link along with our bench tbh. He is a hopeless character defensively. Hodson should have been playing without doubt, and is just another reason i think the management team has to go; they aint up to the job at this level.

Totally agree Grant, Taviner was hopeless and should have been hooked.
Never heard of the boy, but if he's half a good an 'unknown wonder', as Dembele, then I'll be happy: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38502272

Bit more expensive than Dembele
Is that in terms of what we paid for him or what we'll get when we sell him? ;)
Anyway, we badly needed a creative goal-scoring midfielder! :)

Dembele has been a great piece of business, very jealous
Not heard much about him, but sure he will improve your mid options going forward where most Scottish sides lack quality.
£3m fee has been agreed, so he's now in for a medical and to gain a work permit. I think he could be good. Should make us even more dangerous going forward... Just what the rest of the teams in the SPL need!:D
Marco.
It,ll give him 6 moths to fit in before the gravy train of Euro qualifiers start. Britton for the off too so net cost of only £1m
Indeed. Especially the first bit.
It's absolutely *vital* we get through the CL qualifiers (which are never easy), into the CL proper, and next season hopefully more convincingly than we did this season, so Eboue will have been bought with that in mind, and I suspect another couple of signings will be made before the end of the season, also for that very reason.
It's Nir BITTON, btw ;)

Rangers have at least picked up a decent loanee inUS internationalist Emerson Hyndman from Bournemouth ... Beliee he played and starred along with Dembele at Fulham, so hopeful he will add something needed in attacking mid.
Indeed... I believe Joey Barton recommended him :D
Marco.
Think they are still after Toral as well. Barton is resigned to Burnley amazingly. They are doing fairly well in their first season in prem. I remember them playing us pre season and played us off park.
I might add he has a very good work attitude un like Joey;)

You forgot 2009/10 - their first ever season in the Premier League (and 33 years since they were in the top flight of English football).
You also forgot 2014/15.
Do you mean they're doing fairly well for the first time since the last time? ;)
John Toral has signed to Rangers for 6 months loan from Arsenal, via Spanish side Grenada. Spaniard, Toral has a good Scots last name in Harper, and has been in the Spanish under 17 & 19 squads. Lets hope he is fit and able, and may get a game against early German league leaders Leipsig in a friendly.
Celtic seem to have tied up the Eboue lad, and just awaiting a work permit. He looks like a good signing for them.

Lads are telling me Leipzig are playing very well.. toral is playing and doing well enough for first game but we are struggling against their pace. Think its 1-0 to the Germans

Celtic are in top 60 just at 52 mil. Kinda shows the chances of Scottish sides doing much is unlikely. English sides dominate due to their tv deal mostly
Interesting, Grant. Thought Chelsea would've been nearer the top than that... No surprise about Celtic, as we're a huge fish in a teeny-tiny pond, so as long as that state remains the same, so will our financial position.
However, just imagine *if* (and I know it's a big if) one day Celtic were granted entry either into the Premiership or some sort of Euro super-league, exclusively for previous European Cup winners and/or teams with great history and massive worldwide fan bases/home supports, what would their earning potential/financial position be THEN?? ;)
Marco.
This will be like a new signing for us, as we've badly missed him: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38681667
Marco.
Aye, the lads a good un. Hope he doesnt become injury prone; always a concern with young players who do well early and get a bad injury. Fortunately Celtic dont NEED him playing anytime soon so wont push him if they have any sense.
As for getting into England, its not gonna happen. A Euro league system, is a distant possibility I guess. But as you see, financially Scottish sides are way down pecking order and thats how it will no doubt go. The rich turkeys never vote for xmas.
I agree, but there's no doubt that Celtic would be a genuine asset to any elite European league, simply because they'd make money for everyone else there, through the sheer size of their fan base, and if they became more successful after gaining entry to such a league, that fan base would only get bigger!
It's defo all about money, no doubt, but in the right environment Celtic would *generate* as much cash as any of the biggest teams, which is why I think they deserve to be in such a league. Essentially, Celtic just need to get out of the goldfish bowl that is the SPL, and into some [any] kind of other major league that befits their status as a football club, and great things could happen to them.
The reality is they could leave their reserve team to play in the SPL, and they'd still be up challenging at the top, plus it would give all the other teams there (including Rangers) a realistic chance of winning the title. For me, it just makes sense on every level.
Marco.

Still remarkably fit for 37+ tbh. Still knocking them in too. Both new players got gametime as well, with 1 claiming an assist. Toral started, Hyndmann got assist. Both seem to be decent quality.(said in glasgae accent);)
Oh look - we've gone 22 points clear at the top of the table.... ;)

1-0 home win against St Johnstone, mate.
That's this team now having equalled the Lisbon Lions record of 26 games unbeaten in the league, so a nice one to achieve. We'll see how long we can keep the run going for now, as we've got some difficult games coming up, but regardless of that, Brendan Rodgers is slowly building something special here, and I think there will be some exciting times ahead for Celtic and their fans :)
Marco.
Congrats Marko,
Cheers, mate. The real congrats though, will be deserved at the end of the season, once we see what we've won (or not), as the case may be!

indeed they seem to be. Next seasons euro uals will make or break him i guess but think you have a decent chance of getting through.
rangers back into 2nd with a 2-0 win at fir park. 2 sent off, both should have stayed imo. New boy Hyndman from USA with second...inevitably Miller with first. Rangers were as good for an hr as they were bad in first 30. A game they had to win.
Jak Alnwick looks to be coming in as second goallie allowing Gilks to leave. He wants first team football, and cant blame him, but has been unable to dislodge Fotheringham, who has probably been Rangers best player this season. Still strongly linked to west ham defender as another loan too.(Oxford)
I see Chelsea are trying to nab Craig Gordon off Celtic. I really cant see any way he would want to leave. Money at this time in his career isnt everything and he is getting to play in Europe and for national side where he is. Sure he is on decent money too, or should be. Hope Celtic and Craig tell them to po ;)
Yeah, and they have... ;)
The subject came up the other day in a press conference with BR, where he essentially told them to feck off, and that Craig was going nowhere and that he's very happy where he is!
Still, a nice compliment to get, which shows how well he's playing right now. Defo the best keeper in Scotland, and one of the best in Britain. Thing is, at Celtic, he could spend half of his time during the match with his feet up, smoking a cigar, watching TV!! :D
Marco.
:yay: :yay:
Well that's us now gone 27 games unbeaten, since the beginning of the season, and subsequently beaten the previous record held by the Lisbon lions!
Oh, and that was achieved despite today having no recognised strikers on the park, as both Dembele and Griffiths were injured, and Stuart Armstrong pulled up injured in the warm up! So scoring four goals, with no strikers, is quite an achievement and simply hammers home just how far ahead this side are from anything else in the SPL.
Can Celtic go all season unbeaten? I feel a wee trip to the bookies coming on.... ;)
Marco.
Nice one.. i wouldnnt bet against it happening although it only takes one bad day at office for it to go south;). Doubt you,d get great odds
Just checked...5/2 for unbeaten in league. Not worth it

No I know, I was just kidding. I think the likelihood is that a defeat will happen at some point before the end of the season, but the team are certainly good (and focussed) enough to go undefeated - and who knows what bonuses the players are on, if they achieve it! ;)
Also, that might not be the only record they break, as regardless of whether the team go unbeaten or not, the record amount of points for winning the league is also up for grabs, which if I'm correct is currently held by Celtic: 103 points, during season 2001/02.
Furthermore, the record number of goals (again held by us) of 105, during season 2003/04 is up for grabs. That might be a harder one to get, as we don't have a John Hartson or Henrik Larsson in the team, and Griffiths, our most prolific striker, has been in and out of the first team this season.
Marco.

Shame, as you watched the worst half! It was much better in the second half, when we began to wear down Hearts and exert our authority on them.
Whatever way you cut it, you can't knock beating Hearts 4-0, without any recognised strikers on the pitch, not to mention two of your most influential midfielders out injured (Armstrong and Rogic)..... :)
Marco.
Some interesting results tonight, lads....... ;)

Rangers were shocking, really poor defending, basically really awful
I thought the only time they played was for 10 mins in the first half, after they'd scored... Then they shot themselves in the foot again at the start of the second half!
Defensively Rangers were an utter shambles... Clint Hill? I'm not sure Clint Eastwood in there could sort that lot out!! The hard reality is that too many players in that team just aren't anything like Rangers class.
I think that, after a difficult start, the new Hearts manager has got something about him, and will take this Hearts team places.
Marco.
Just up... I did say on the "my other forum" that Ger would need to be at their best tonight as Hearts would want a bounceback from the 4-0 mauling.... Seems I was right, although not seen the score yet. not sure i want to tbh.
Which other forum are you referring to, daftee?
Score: Hearts 4 Rangers 1.
Men against boys.
Marco.
Lol. Its a Gers forum one one of my acquaintances owns for a few of us blue blue noses. Not really on google tho. Yup I expected pretty much what happened as it was obvious they at home were going to beat us physically and our manager is a clown and doesnt have any plan B....some say plan A is not all that good either ;) Halliday is still being played in a role he cant play for some reason....must have pics of the manager in his wallet:D
27 points ahead (of second place), and counting...... It's getting boring now! ;)
Marco.
Very true mate.. another scintillating performance from Rangers. According to the manager...hes an eegitt...hasnt a clue how to manage a big team in a biggish league. He wont change and is gone as is King i believe.
Well done on another good win v a decent side
Warburton and crew are no more ... as expected. They asked to leave for free, as they thought they were going to forrest, got their wish, but forrest pulled out, then asked for money to leave and got the heave ho. Graeme Murty takes team for the Morton cup game.
Not a very stylish exit, from both sides, but if true, then i dont really see any other option tbh.

Well, he thought he was, but forrest decided not to take all 3 even for free. Get the feeling their agent cocked up. New they wanted out. It was obvious, and knew the chair had lost faith, but cant help feeling they have jumped the gun a bit. They better have it in writing plus tape recordings and 50 witnesses .... its becoming like the Crusty the Clown show again.

will be interesting to see what happens next.
Sorry to hear that guys, but I guess Warbs departure was inevitable, although rather sooner than I had anticipated... I suspect some falling out/breakdown behind the scenes was the trigger for his departure.
Could be a blessing in disguise, as if they can get a new manager in who excites the fans [and in that respect this is where we will *now* see the true ambition of the Rangers board], it will bode well for the rest of the season and would start to build something good for next season.
However, in terms of this season for Rangers, the cup game tomorrow against Morton is VITAL...
Lose that, and their season is over. Often a different manager coming in, even an interim one, such as is the case with Murty, can have a positive effect on the team, but I suspect that Morton, who are in good form, will see it as a great opportunity to cause a big upset. We shall see what happens! :)
Meanwhile, we humped Inverness Caley 6-0, and are now in the quarter finals of the cup, with Dembele scoring another hat-trick... That's two in the last two games. £500k? It's such a fooking joke!! They're talking about £40m now, and I can see that happening if (as I suspect) he stays for another season and has a great CL campaign.... It's all good
Marco.
Yup, it was the steal of century. Better than the Swede as hes so young.
Yeah I agree, but Larsson was special - very special (a true legend), and had a long a hugely successful career at the club, which is something, as good as he is, Dembele won't achieve (the longevity bit) for obvious reasons.
Marco.

yeah, I was talking financially. although not guaranteed, there is a good chance he will make the club a lot of money. Just needs consistency now.
As far as warbs is concerned, well, it appear his agent tried to play fast and loose Bluff with Gers board and they kinda called the bluff. If this is true then they were correct to do so. No use if they aint interested and are just picking up the wage. The lad Murty is a decent sort and had some experience with a few clubs before coming in. I think he may well make the job his own till summer; possibly longer....needs a result tomorrow to kick start his claim tho/

So what's the score gonna be then, lads? I'll go 4-1 to Rangers, as I think Murty will get a good reaction from his players, considering the situation they're in... Plus, if we can avoid each other before then, I'd like to see an old firm cup final!

It was indeed. Morton at least played to their potential most of time. Maybe rangers did too, and thats the scary bit. Players are mostly tarts tbh.. decent draw though.
Draw? You won! ;)
Under the circumstances, with the pressure the team were under in a tricky tie, it was a good win. If Morton had taken their chances though, the result could've been very different...

What did you make of Alex McLeish being interested in taking the manager's job? I think that would be a good move, and just the right man for the job. He's a Rangers man, knows the club inside out and very good at his job.
He's also used to working on a limited budget, as he did when he was last there and achieved success.
Either that, or bring back the good old days, and go for a 'dream team' of Paul Le Guen and Barry Ferguson! :D

Don't think he is right choice at the moment
Who would you go for then, Robin? :)
I hear they're talking about Frank de Boer..... I'm not sure any of the top managers would take the Ibrox job, with the club in its current financial position. For starters, what kind of wage would De Boer want? In terms of signing players he'd also want access to some decent wonga. And would the directors risk getting into even more debt and pay the penalty again, as they did after the Advocaat era?
If so, this time it could bury the club for good!
At least McLeish is a Rangers man, through and through, and would galvanise the team and get the best out of a bad lot, whilst hopefully making some decent (affordable) signings - an area where I felt Warburton failed pretty miserably. Catching Celtic, if that's the goal, isn't something that's going to happen overnight [far from it] - or necessarily be solved by chucking money away Rangers don't have, especially without any currently coming in from Champions League football.
If not McLeish, then Tommy Wright would get my vote, as he's achieved miracles with St Johnstone and I think would be well capable of taking Rangers to where they need to be right now, before they could realistically tempt someone like De Boer.
Marco.
Would go for Tommy i think as he,s made of the wright stuff  mckinnes has done well too on a budget, as did neilson when at hearts. So i think thats whats needed at moment. De boer is fantasy imo. Reality is they all cost money, so it,ll likely be someone on a free, like mcleish

I doubt very much we will be able to afford Frank De Boer, the club have announced that they are also going to bring in a Director of Football, so it looks like a new structure.
Not sure who my choice would be but there needs to be a plan, and a plan A and Plan B is doing Plan A better.
Still think Murty might be given a few games and see how he goes... but we will see..
On a Wenger note, Arsenal got well and truly humped 5-1 by Munich.... really has to be his last fling now there is, or should not be any coming back from this for him. Sad, and he has been a good servant, but been there too long.

Yeah just before half time - losing to the team at the bottom of the league
As I thought. Not one of them worth a game tbh. Halliday is bloody useless but gets played. I take it some of these players have a "Must be played " in their contracts. Tavs cant defend but plays before Hodson?
Another disgraceful performance. Better the club be shut than produce rubbish like that

Sometimes you just can't defend your team - 13 players used at the most 3 are fit to wear the shirt
Still no further forward re a manager. apparently interviews have been going on, although the names being bandied about fill me with dread... Not heard 1 serious name that I fancy....says it all
we play Saints at home tonight, so hope their manager, who I would take, fancies picking a team of duds tonight ;) hell, they'd still win
eanwhile the Tic are away to the only side to take points of em, and who won last game too Inverness. Think its a bit much to ask of them to stop the charge. anyway good luck to em as marco likes em for some odd reason :D

6-0... Great result in the cup against Hamilton, daftees!
Could this be the turning point for Rangers? :hmm:
Marco.
Bit of the rub of the green too, but at last they actually were more going for the target than pissing about with tappy tappy football that may be nice to watch but often is short of an end product. Keeper was lucky to stay on as well, but we have not had a ref thats given us anything much all season so will take it. Would have preferred it in league tbh.
Interesting 'double-header' coming up, chaps: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39174678 ;)
Marco.
They dont want another cup final fracas i guess, and this is the best way to avoid one i guess. Celtic were turned over in first have today, and it could have been worse. Good comeback though.
Lol - not so much 'turned over', but the combination of St Mirren playing out of their skins, to a very effective game plan, and us having an off day in the first half, meant that St Mirren took a well-deserved first half lead. That continued for 10 mins into the second half, where they were unlucky not to go 2-0 up.
However, once we equalised shortly after, there was only one team in it, and indeed likely winner. In the end, we could've won 6 or 7-1.
That's what happens with this Celtic team - they never know when they're beaten, and keep going and going, eventually tiring other teams out (as the players are very fit), and find what's needed to win. That never-say-die winning mentality is the mark of true champions :)
Marco.
well after Arsenal's tame capitulation, Barca show us how its done.. 4-0 down to PSG, the go and win 6-1 tonight. Sure the ref had a part to play in both games but youve still gotta go and do it. .. it does help having Messi, Neymar and Suarez up front of course:D
Although not official yet, Pedro Caixinha will be the new manager of Rangers. The 46 yr old Portuguese, former manager of Uniao Leiria and Nacional in his home country, Caixinha led Mexican side Santos Laguna to the 2014 Copa MX Apertura trophy, the 2015 Liga MX Clausura title and the 2015 Campeon de Campeones trophy, as well as the 2013 CONCACAF Champions League final. Sounds like he likes achieving so bring it on. Obviously he wont want to come in just as we go to play Celtic; I dont blame him either; so Mr Murty will still lead the team to his first OF match.(good luck to him, he will need it) and good luck to Pedro.

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRd73K-hM9yVdWHWgNy4dPnhYM-VZVTRDTSuohHSzsohAdCpYwaMQ
Hahaha... That's a belter!
I think Caixinha's appointment has been unofficially 'rubber-stamped' for some time, and it's a bold move by Rangers bringing in a foreign coach with little real knowledge of the club or Scottish football, and just what it means to manage a club steeped in history, with a massive fan base, and where expectation levels are sky-high.
Will he be able to handle the huge pressure he'll be under, both on and off the park? We'll see... Let's hope he turns out to be more of a Dick Advocaat than a Paul Le Guen! ;) And I say "let's hope" because I *genuinely* mean it!
If Caixinha can turn Rangers into the team that they once were, and push Celtic all the way for honours every year, then it can only be good for Celtic, and for the status of the SPL - and crucially in terms of attracting the best possible players to Scotland.
My gut feeling is that this guy will be good, but he will need time to implement his 'infrastructure' into the club and his style of training and play, and so *must* be given that time by both the board and the fans, and if he gets it, I think Rangers will reap the rewards.
As for Sunday's game at Celtic Park, perhaps for the first time ever, Rangers go into an old firm match with almost no pressure on them whatsoever. Few will give them a chance, and they'll be desperate and highly motivated to end Celtic's winning run. That's why I think that Rangers can get something from the match tomorrow, but they'll need to play out of their skins and hope Celtic have an off day.
Marco.
Granty, surprised you haven't commented on this? :)
Marco.
Hard one on Sunday, and I expect the incumbant will be in attendance. I think he is part of a parcel(wont go into that) whether he can handle it,, well he is inclined to get hett up so I kinda expect fireworks both on ond off field.
Back to the game, It could go anyway game wise but I expect to lose heavily again.
The new man may will do something next year if he gets funds, and I expect him to,(whether its enough is another matter) so could be a more interesting season next time.

Won't be in he country before the game and probably before the announcement of the new manager, so hopefully by the time we return on Sunday night , we won't be on the receiving end of a hiding
Pedro has signed a 3 year contract with Rangers and becomes manager. Grahame Murty will lead team on Sunday(no new manager wants to start his career with that on the slate) pedro starts work on Monday. He apparently paid the escape fee himself to clear the way for this job. Shows the right level of commitment
The master predictor gets it right again ;)
You must be pretty pleased with the draw, guys - old Clinty, too :)
Marco.
Wasnt a great game, but think murty deserved something for his efforts getting some sort of order out of that shower. Lol. Waghorn again missed a sitter for 1-0. He has to go, along with a few others(quite a few actually). Thought overall Celtic were probably best side, although they didnt play their A game, although Rangers may have had a hand in that to a degree. We shall see what new man makes of them.
Yeah, overall Rangers deserved a point. It was their best performance against Celtic so far, by a country mile, and they showed some real spirit on a day when Celtic weren't anywhere near at their best.
In Old Firm games, it's usually the case that the team who either need to or want to win the game the most, do so, or get a well-earned point, and so it was to be in this game. All the talk before the match (in the idiotic media) was about how many Celtic were going to score, and so the Rangers players used that to their advantage and had a point to prove, which is why I predicted they'd get something from the match.
The Rangers equaliser, however, came from a free kick that never was, and Celtic had a stonewall penalty denied right at the very end, where Clint Hill clearly fouled Lee Griffiths, but hey such is football...
The key now for Rangers will be seeing if they can build on this good performance and stop losing silly points against the other teams in the league, many of which come from the bottom half of the table - and of course what kind of input the new manager is going to have now on their results and performances.
The goal for Rangers will be to try and win the cup, and stop Celtic's treble, or at the very least ensure qualification for the Europa League next season. The cup game now, therefore, is going to be a *massive* one! :)
Marco.
Sure, it could have been different a few times, and thats just way a game probably should be. Gets interest going rather than apathy. Thought it was probably a pen but there was a bit of both going too and think ref needed to be bloody sure to give anyone a pen in last minute at 1-1. Dont blame him fir ignoring it.. i probably would have too
Yes, but let's hope that doesn't happen at Hampden, in the forthcoming cup game, where the outcome of such 'ignoring' could be rather different! ;)
Marco.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39249941
"It's very disappointing that with four officials they don't see that. It looked a clear penalty," said Rodgers.
Indeed. Four [rather conveniently] 'blind mice'...... ;)
Marco.
swings and roundabouts I guess. Rangers have had a lot of blatant ones ignored or missed too. Its a hectic match for officials too and they are human. it happens pretty quick and they dont get reruns or the anges we get. Dont think it helped that Griffiths is a dit of a diver on occasion and refs do note these things.
I agree that what you're saying happens, but I'm sorry, I also have to be honest and say I think that the infamous 'masons in the black' syndrome is warming up nicely in time for the cup game at Hampden, where I fear that Celtic will be up against not only the Rangers players, but the 'Rangers minded' officials...
Mark my words, everything possible will be done, by the 'powers that be', to try and stop Celtic winning the treble - and that deeply-ingrained bias in Scotland is an old story, mate
Marco.
think thats long gone mate, if it was ever there and i'm not sure it was in general. Possibly quite the opposite now. The fact you didnt get a pen doesnt spawn that tbf.
I hear ya, but we shall see what happens.....

I think they're just desperate to tie up the title, ASAP, so that they can concentrate 100% on the cup, and perhaps rest some key players, for that very purpose. It's a nice position to be in :)

Aye, let's hope that's the case next season. We need a strong Rangers side pushing us all the way. However, you need to get past Aberdeen first, who currently look likely to finish as the second best team in Scotland...

Wont catch Dons this year I fear. Its possible but unlikely, and wont make any difference to Europe. Third is enough. Plan was always to get a tilt at Europe, and as long as they dont play like yesterday they should manage it. Lots of heads to roll over summer.
We still have a tilt at cup, and on a 1v1 its a possible.
Celtic have been consistently the best side again and its shown especially with the new manager, because its mostly the same squad.

Yup, although that's not what I meant. In order to get near Celtic next season, and challenge them, Rangers will *first* have to overcome Aberdeen - and that won't be an easy task either. Much will depend on how much investment is made in the team in the summer.
We still have a tilt at cup, and on a 1v1 its a possible.
That will be a hard game for us, for a number of reasons, so no guarantees there. Plus, having now won the league, it's a matter of keeping the momentum going, which is easier said than done...
Key players will no doubt be rested for the remaining league games, so it's up to their replacements to shine and try and ensure that the team remain unbeaten for the rest of the season, whilst allowing the key players in question their rest.
Celtic have been consistently the best side again and its shown especially with the new manager, because its mostly the same squad.
Yup, Brendan has been total quality and fantastic manager, and the good news for us is that he's not driven purely by money either.
Some are saying he'll move on now to a wealthier club, and/or back to the Premiership, but I don't buy that at all, as you have to remember that he's a lifelong Celtic fan, on a mission, so he'll be here to win us 10-in-a-row, and with it, enter the history books as a Celtic legend.
Plus during that time, create extended runs in the Champions League, before he goes anywhere - trust me! ;)
Very exciting times are ahead for Celtic fans, and worrying times too for the rest of the teams in the SPL, as the reality is that, for the foreseeable future, Celtic are only going to get better and better....
