Nice one, mate. It's just a pity you're not fit enough (your hip or whatever for standing up), and were able to make your own soup, as that would be so much better, healthier, and cheaper still in the long run :)
You can make a huge big pot of vegetable soup for next to hee-haw...

Can make soup..hell it makes its self really. Been cooking all my life, and never had a complaint lol. Maw taught me when i was a teen. Said it would come in handy, and she was right. Rule 1 for soup... Good stock. Best you can get or make. The rest is just trying different mixes and herbs n spices etc. Vary size of veg etc, blend parts of it for texture. Not brain science, but some folk make it look that way.
Okies, that's cool, so why are you pissing about with tins then, daftee? Make a big batch and then freeze it into portions. Much cheeper and better for you than any tinned or packet shite.
If you're able to cook, then there's no reason to buy ready meals either. It's simply a case of being organised and doing stuff in advance, or having the necessary ingredients in the kitchen to knock something up on the spot. Risottos, for example, are fantastic things for knocking up simply and quickly.
We make batches of stuff and freeze it all the time, such as pasta sauce, curries, Chinese stuff and all sorts. With a bit of effort and know-how, you can definitely EAT WELL, cheaply! :exactly:

It is difficult to make main meals for 1 ecomomically. It also takes longer than i can stand. Freezer has lots of stuff though.. The ready meals i get are good value and give a good variety. Rarely take tinned soup bar tomato tbh. My freezers full of soup and stock, as i make it often.

Ah, nightmare... It's been sunny here pretty much all day.
Just in from mowing the lawn and weeding the paths and driveway, which takes a bit of doing here! One of our plans this year is to tar the driveway and stoney areas surrounding the house, which will make it nicer and much more 'low maintenance'.
Unfortunately, it won't be cheap, as the driveway itself is about 35m long... :eek:

Don't get any cheapos to do it... Drainage by falls and directed to non flood areas, plus a good base of hard core and thickly laid tar or asphalt. Brother got his done right a few years ago and as it was done right he has no trouble.. Worth paying the extra if your doing it

I used to design and specify this type of thing for a living. Anybody wanting an opinion on proposed work can ask me.
Giving existing surfaces a 'skim' of new surfacing material can often be a false economy by the way.

Thing is, the gates are at the front of the house, where unfortunately there is no vehicular access. That would've been different in the old days, though!
Sounds like you've had a nice day there. And yes, it's 'Quattro Stagioni', as in 'four seasons'. Peroni is good, but see if you can find some Messina, such as from here: http://www.delicatezza.co.uk/products/messina-beer-33cl
It tastes just like Peroni, only better! Just as crisp and refreshing, with subtly hoppy overtones. It's what Italians drink instead of Peroni. Trust me, you'd love it :barrel:

Went along to the local CAMRA sponsored beer festival today. Beautiful warm day (22degC) with a little breeze. Sat outside with friends supping a few beers. Seems like summer has arrived at last!

It's not even mine. It keeps creeping in from adjoining properties, down and around the outer garden walls and speading like mad. It's the first time I've tackled it for some years, but it was out of control. I intend to see absolutely none left in my garden. It's a job and a half!

Feel for ya Geoff. Bindweed is my garden bug bare. Loads of it where I am which I pull up as best I can so it doesn't take over and suck the life out of everything else.
Doesnt help that my neighbours both sides do nothing about theirs and literally let the stuf grow abundantly, all flowered with their innocent looking white heads - drives me nuts ! :steam: ('pull the bloody stuf up ffs!')

I know the feeling, same here, ivy is from next door. We asked him to control it years ago as it was invading our garage and brick built shed. He didn't. In fact, the ivy had damaged the roof of both the garage and shed making them leak. I removed as much as I could from our two outbuildings and sprayed what I could not reach with weed-killer. Ivy is tough, waxy leaves and the weed-killer does not soak in that well. I used some fantastic stuff called Clinic Ace, which I get from Amazon or eBay.

I think it's a good bit cheaper, and most likely stronger.
Just checked, I'm wrong, it's not much cheaper, possibly a little.

Been a fab day down here in London, very warm today (and due to get to a barmy 31 by Tuesday according to BBC weather :eek:)
Went to the yearly Lambeth Village Show in Brockwell Park with the Mrs and youngest daughter.
Had a great day, stalls, live stock, loads of food, beer, two stages, one of which was very big and people of every colour, creed and nationality getting on as we general know how to down south in one love and unity - fabulous :)

Been hot here in London, cut grass and hedges for neighbour that has cancer, for the last two month he can't do these things. Was overheated afterwards.
Just a few spots of rain at about 12:15 PM.
Lovely here. Been sunny and dry all day. The smell of freshly mown grass and the drone of light aircraft. Must be summer.

We've had an absolutely perfect summer's day here, with near-cloudless blue skies here from 7am, until now, with the temperature peaking at 25°C. It's been so nice, we're not long in from having lunch! :eyebrows:

What Armagnac are you drinking Marco? Have you tried Tesco's 'Finest' Armagnac. It's a very decent drop at a very reasonable price.

A very clammy and close 82F/28C here at the moment. Could do with a breeze. It'll be an uncomfortable night I guess. Hotter and even stickier tomorrow!

I have a good quality outdoor thermometer in the shade just outside my back door. At 9.30 it was 31C/88F and feeling hot. I'm predicting 35 or more later. I won't enjoy it!
Silly hot outside at moment.. No wind either and its painful to go out at moment .... Hiding inside lol

Sitting inside at the moment, with some fans on and the curtains drawn, to keep the lounge as cool as possible. Will be having lunch outside in the patio again later, but that will be under the shade of brollies, etc :cool:
Couldn't imagine having to work in this type of heat.....

I used to. Doing heavy engineering work. Used to train in it too, losing a kilo in weight in 2 hours just sweating off body fluids. Those were the days! :)

It's about 28 climbing to possible 33oC here but I am in a super air conditioned lab so about 18-21oC. Luckily we had all our aircon serviced last week!
Put the thermo out while sun was behind cloud and it was 23.. Suns back out and up to 30c with 46% humidity. Might get a canopy brolly up if its gonna stay this hot. There is a fair amount of cloud as well so you get breaks at moment

Just tottered down to the university library and back. The only other person there was some bloke who'd fallen asleep over his laptop. Too darn hot outside for me, but our house stays nice and cool.
Just made up a nice Iced mocha frappe, one of the perks working in beverage industry!
Noon, and its now 33c with only 38% humidity as moisture is burned out. So hot the birds have all taken cover in heart of the trees.poor beggers are mostly black so are gonna feel it
Seems to have leveled out at 33C. Way too hot and indoors its getting too warm as the humidity is higher indoors. Putting some tunes on at moment, then will have to go out in car. Alas the air con doesnt work any more so it,ll be all windows open and go as fast as i can :eek:

It is BRUTALLY hot here - we had to come in from the garden, as it was measuring 39.5°C in the direct sun! :eek: :eek: :wowzer:

Na ..lost the gussett to friction.;). I had to go somewhere in car, alas the cooler doesnt work anymore. Wasnt too bad when i left as car was left in shade, but had to leave it baking for 1/2 hr and it could have cooked beef when i got back in.
In those conditions, with 'plastic' covered seats, and shorts on, it'll turn your legs into cooked beef when you sit down! :eek: :eyebrows:

I remember sticking to a tarmac pavement because it was so hot it was melting. That would be '76 I think. Had tarmac all over the bottom of my trainers and tramped it into the house. Mam went mad.

It wont do it any good if its low !!! Today our farm compressor which makes the bulk tank ice decided it was just too ruddy hot to run and kept shutting down .
The fridge engineer said he had a dozen more just like it !! Ambient air temp and all that !!

No, it was more wearing shorts and going down metal shoots in parks, having been made red-hot by being baked in the sun, thus leaving half of the skin on my legs stuck to the shoot!! :eek:

I know the warmth is less extreme today. But I'm still too hot and feel just as sticky and uncomfortable as yesterday. Maybe the humidity has risen. Back to sensible temperatures tomorrow onwards I believe (I hope).

Nice to see some sun, and as it's the peak of the summer, I guess we should be expecting it, however I'm defo more of a 18-23°C kind of chap, than a 30°C+ one!

I' slept fine last night. Didn't even have a window open. I can't anyway because the traffic noise makes me dream I am sleeping rough on the street.
You must be able to cope with the heat better than me - I can't abide stuffy, warm bedrooms..... I find it difficult to relax or breathe properly, and just sit there sweating all night. Horrible!

Yes, it has to be a lot warmer than this before I start to feel it. I'd be fine with this temp all year round it is just about right for me.
Hence why you go to the Caribbean on holiday ;)

A nice coolish spring/autumn day is ideal for me. Never liked hot weather, although could handle it ok when younger for short periods... It nearly kills me now
I was there once and the wind dropped before a big storm, Usually there is a constant cooling breeze. The heat was almost unbearable, not just very hot, but really oppressive. Only lasted about half an hour before the storm broke and the wind began again but I was struggling. Nearly had to go and find some aircon.
A nice coolish spring/autumn day is ideal for me.
Same here. TBH, if given a choice of extremes I'd take -18°C in the snow, but sunny, as it was in our honeymoon in Austria, than 35°C in......well.... Wrexham!

I slept fine too, though as I've said before our house stays cool even when it's hot outside, apart from the top room, which gets like an oven. But it's not used for much other than storage (mostly of empty cardboard boxes), so it's no big deal.
We have almost no traffic noise, apart from the morning and evening rush hours (which actually last about 15 minutes); sometimes we hear the odd drunk student staggering back to his/her flat late at night, but most of the time you could hear a pin drop.
It is quite in the immediate vicinity but there are some busy roads not far away and you can hear them at night with the window open,
No students yet but we are about to get a load of them in September due to the University moving here from Stafford. Every available house and building is being done up as student accommodation.

No the locals closed years ago now. I think one is becoming a student let. I don't mind them anyway. We've had much worse than students over the years.

Still pretty warm here, 26°C inside, and nearer 30°C outside, but despite having had no thunderstorms yet, the humidity levels have dropped significantly, making things rather more comfortable :)
Off out today to Carrog (in the Berwyn mountains) to one of our favourite country pubs, where you sit outside, whilst sampling some local ales and superb home-cooked food, and enjoy this stunning view:

Bit cooler here. Out of sun its about the same as indoors at 23.5c. In sun its 25.5 .... Can justabout handle this.
..... Nice looking Pub Marco... I like an outside area with a roof of some sort...even pagoda ish

Looks a nice spot Marco. It's a fair drive for me to find anywhere properly scenic.
A reasonable 22C/71F here at the moment. Feels a bit humid though.
Cheers, guys. It's a little pub, in a tiny village on the way to Corwen. Nothing fancy, but the view's nice and ales and (unpretentious) grub superb. If it's not too warm later, we'll go for a walk around Llangollen :)

Lounge was nice and cool yesterday evening until I turned the valves on!:) Gradually temp went up and room became tad too warm.
Seriously speakers and cantilever suspension do not like this very warm weather and compromise sound quality.

Speakers like to be cold (well mine do) and cartridges like to be warm (~ 25degC), which is why some enthusiasts like to have a high power (tungsten filament) lamp near their TT/arm/cartridge. It's not there just for cueing or seeing if the record is clean.
Been wet all day, but close and warm too. One of these days its better to get wet than put a coat on. I just stuck my wide brimmed hat and a light body warmer on to go out.. The hat catches most of it. Prefer a cold day to this actually
Muggy here. Humidity is high at 68%, temp at 26 or about 75 in old money. That's in my living room. Probably a bit cooler outside.

Living room is 22.5 and humid at 68%. Outside is similar so no benefit from opening doors. Slight breeze but not enought to cool.
My livingroom is alway warm.infact whole house is. Had all the insulating bits replaced recently.. Walls, ceilings, plus new windows, heating etc. Also on end of a block of 4 on the east side so protected from the wind.. Heat is worse upstairs. I prefer an even 20c indoors but its hard to achieve now

I think moving coil speakers prefer a warmer environment, increasing the compliance of the cone suspension. But I could well be wrong in this.
My speakers are electrostatic and do seem to sound a little 'crisper' if they operate in a cooler than normal environment. I can't explain why this should be. Initially I thought it might be due to the inner diaphragm becoming more taut, and hence more rigid and so unlikely to display 'drum modes'. But that ignores the enormous electrostatic forces involved if one part of the diaphragm tries to move relative to another part: the electrostatic field automatically causes the low mass polymer diaphragm to become very, very stiff and rigid.

Many years ago a great amplifier designer/ builder came up with a number of speakers he thought were truly great, among these were the Quad electrostats but stacked. Recently I came on this article which seemed to advocate how fabulous this combination could sound. I have priced up second hand Quad electro stats and recon I could put a pair of stacked Quads together for around £1000,

If you have room for stacked 57s, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I tried a set and the performance is just amazing. But sadly they do take up a lot of space and are visually too intrusive to use in my listening/living room.

It has been a very nice day today. Sunny and warm, but still a cooling breeze. Just up my street. Was out in it most of day, or in shed fiddling with my old broken gramophone
