Eagle amplifiers anyone

I am digging out some old 'hi fi' bits that have been stored at the back of a cupboard for years.

I have an Eagle TSA 150 amplifier (solid state). It seems to have inputs for ceramic, magnetic, tape and tuner. Does anyone know of Eagle products? Do they have any pedigree? Not much on Google.

Yes! My first amp was an Eagle TSA(70) I think. A small wooden cased thing. When I had it I thought it was ok (15w per ch) but with hindsight what I thought was problem with any speakers I had distorting, I realise now that it was probably the amp which mus have been gutless. When you see what a 15w per channel Class D amp can do it is mind blowing. Probably boot sale fodder.....take a £Fiver for it:lol:

If I can get it going I will certainly try it against a Class D amp I have, will be interesting.

Eagle amplifiers had one thing going for them back then. They were better than Amstrad amps. But otherwise, they'd be what cash strapped schoolboys bought for their bedroom system to play Led Zep on. In other words, admitting to using one in 'Hi-Fi' circles would have been an embarrassment. Bit like saying one used a pair of Keletron or Marsden Hall speakers or an SP25III turntable.

They certainly passed me by, although I think I remember seeing the Eagle logo on PA speakers.

Good god man, I didn't know you had been in my bedroom as a teenager! I had the Eagle and of course the obligatory dreadful Garrard deck. I bought them from a shop in Tottenham Court Rd (early 70's) I didn't have any of the speakers you mention though. I did play Zep, Deep Purple, Hawkwind and lots of other shit on it,

I had an Eagle amp back in the early '80's and loved it dearly. It was the heart of my home / bedroom system. It played untold house parties, driving 2 x 100w celestion speakers which were placed on top of a pair of bass bins. I'm talking all night proper reggae / soul house parties until day light. I'd usually have one of each speaker in two rooms.
I used the amp with an equalizer and it was happy days - lovely sound.
The amount of times guys would come up and say ' the system sounds nice, cant believe that 'house amp' is sounding like that' - cause it certainly drove those speakers :)
I cant remember the model no. but it was silver, 75w per channel and had a light around the volume knob - loved that amp. (Was in the boot of my mates Granada which got stolen :( )

My first 'proper hi-fi system was inherited from my father and comprised an Eagle TSA-151 amplifier, AA-8 tuner and AA-20 speakers. These were used with a Technics RS-263US cassette deck and Hitachi PS-17 turntable and I loved it all.

The speakers in particular were a very decent size and filled my bedroom with sound very nicely. Years later I sold them to a friend who took them off to university where they did sterling party duties!

As an aside, the Eagle system originally came with an Eagle-badged Garrard SP25Mk3 turntable which conked out, hence the Hitachi replacement. The Garrard went up into the loft for years and then came down to be thrown out whereupon I asked if I could have it. I duly took it apart to see how it worked and then had great difficulty putting it back together (in my defence, I was only about 8 at the time!). I eventually got it working again and this instigated a long obsession with Garrard turntables that is still strong - at one point I owned around 80 of them.

Even now, working on an SP25 is like re-visiting an old and dear friend, although I can turn around a service in about 45 minutes now if I really go for it! :D

My first stand alone turntable was an Eagle (D7500 I think). I'm guessing that this would have been from 1978. I used it with a Bryan amp and a pair of Pioneer car speakers (using their cardboard boxes as cabinets with a circular hole cut out for the drivers). My father was an electrical engineer so the Eagle was what the local electrical trade wholesaler was able to source, largely off the back of Eagle manufacturing PA equipment and the like. Happy days... :)
