Some people have more money than sense
What a piece of shite.
Agreed ;)
The twats who are tempted to buy that sort of pretentious bullshit should have the money taken from them and given to charity instead, and that includes the profit earned from sales by the cockheads who make such obscenely vulgar pish!! :wanker:

Twatish? Twatish?
If the item was originally valued at $102,000 (£63,142) and can now be had for a mere $30,000 (£18,570), than surely, (surely) that's a bargain in any man's philosophy? More of a bargain I'd wager than say £500 for a Garrard SP 25 MK IV or £1400 for an Akito arm or £850 for a Decca arm or even £150 for an ADC ALT 1 arm. Not to mention £250 for a Sony Elcassette with three major faults or £177 for a Mullard GZ34. Like beauty, isn't a bargain in the eye of the beholder? Or perhaps, in the mind of the deluded?
I'd want the 24K Gold version. Nothing else would suffice.
'and that includes the profit earned from sales by the cockheads who make such obscenely vulgar pish!!' I think you are slowly coming round to my way of thinking, have you had a bump on the head.

Nice on Ali!
Lived with a pair for about 6 months, some forty years ago. Not the most neutral of speakers, but excellent attack and dynamics.
The speakers had a high sensitivity, so only a few watts were needed. Used with Quad II amps and a Sugden A21.
Turns out I got even more of a bargain. The chap has just removed the drivers to post and they are DX3's, more expensive than the PM6.

I got a Denon TU-800L tuner via eBay for just £22. I picked it up as the seller was only 25 minutes drive from here. This tuner is a big step up from the much-vaunted TU-260 MkII. The latter has RDS which the 800 doesn't but it is an earlier design.

They are but the cabs seemed to have been painted black, the aluminium trim under the grill is either missing of also painted black.
They are the Pageant's but series 2, all drivers are original but the alum trim is indeed missing or painted. Not sure about the veneer though, but they'll need some care which means extra fun.
Let's wait and see what comes up. :)

NOT a 'Bargain on eBay'!
What is an empty pair of Tannoy Turnbury cabinets worth? £200 maybe. Add in a pair of IIILZ drivers, which seem to sell for around £800 these days (for some inexplicable reason) and you have a grand's worth perhaps. Not two and a quarter thousand quid!

I just bought a pair of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160952299983
Full range 8 ohm 8" 10 watt drivers with 94db sensitivity selling at £6.25 a pair.
They actually measure around 7.9 ohms DC, which means they are nearer 10 ohm drivers really. I can see two pairs in cheap home built reflex cabinets making rather useful party speakers. Gives you 5 ohm, 20 watt rating per pair @ 97db efficiency producing over 110db at max. That's loud! And nobody's going to notice the lack of proper deep bass.
The magnets are tiny, they are a little coloured, but definitely a bargain!

The Magnum SL is a nice old speaker, with a rather full seventies style of sound. Good drive units. You have to avoid keeping them anywhere too warm as the vinyl 'skin' on the bass driver can start lifting off. The crinkly vinyl surround on the midrange cone is normal, some were like it new. And the tweeter is a Phillips unit with a pretty detailed sound. They were a bargain for what you paid and could be tidied up easily enough.

Now I've got to wait 3 to 4 weeks to get them and probably pay some duty when they reach the UK.
They should be interesting, I've been planning to try some Diatone copies for some time and these are sensibly priced, the Alnico versions are much dearer.
Have any of you heard of the Diatone P610? It has a cult following worldwide and a pair of the originals from fifty or sixty years ago cost big money these days.

Something nice from the seventies. A pair of KLH Model 6 speakers looking in very decent condition. Doped fabric surrounds on the bass units that won't rot away. These are definitely a bit of a 'Classic'! They are in Leicester and the listing ends in a couple of hours, only up to £7.16 currently.

No, but I have heard them. Many moons ago, along with all the other KLH models at the time. The KLH 6 were direct competitors to the AR 2 and The Smaller Advent Speaker back then (a long time ago).

Those KLH Model 6 looks nice. Problem is they might need reworking to replace tired caps, corroded contacts and old solder joints etc.

The one bass driver on view doesn't look too clever. Presumably that is the better one of the two.

Just this minute bought a pair of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pair-2pcs-HiEND-6-5inch-fullrange-DIATONE-P610-CL0N-upgrade-version-better-50-/321053290516?pt=US_Speaker_Parts_Components&hash=item4ac0447014
I would be very interested to know how they sound. I need a pair of wide range drivers, and these are one of the possibles.

let me know what you think of those magnums , i havent heard a pair for a few years but they are a very nice sounding speaker with great lows:) , be sure not to overdrive them though the bass drivers are prone to go pop!! blew a few units myself back in the late eighties:(
I like!
Very unfussy when it comes to placement, less bass boom than my other speakers which have 6" & 8" bass drivers... Always a problem in my room :( Overall sound quite natural and just downright pleasant for background listening. I'm yet to have a proper "session" with them so wont say any more.
Currently driving them with a Sony ES and cant help feeling a Sugden A21 would be a better match...Hmmm ;)

I suspect you may be surprised. As a rule, the bigger the speaker the higher the sensitivity. So you probably wouldn't need much power to drive these at domestic levels, particularly as they are professional units which tend to be built for efficiency.
Go for it, never mind what the other half says!

This is sort of true. If a seller lists something at a bargain price [BIN] it will go within 5 minutes of being listed... There are dozens of blokes out there that spend all day refreshing the newly listed page waiting for the bargains to appear. If you have a casual look when you get home from work every day you've no chance of a bargain.
I wish we had this amount of Tube amps for sale over here,

These went quite cheaply even @ 660 smackers. I have seen pairs go for much more and in poorer condition.

Here's one. My love has always been with Ferrograph series seven units..I own five 'F307' amplifiers. Ive had a couple since i got into Hi-Fi near on 30 years ago, but since our famous auction site emerged they were selling at around £20 each ish , they havent fetched much at all over the years for obvious reasonz untill recently (probably due to me broadcasting them, hence AOS) because people don't use their brains they go with what people say .. the warning is they need some real hot shit cash spending on em. I recently re-built a Mk.II it cost me me around £500.00 & that's doing it myself but at the end of he day i'm mega fussy :).. regardless im claiming it to be the best fettled 'F307' .. i don't show it or let silly wnkerz into my home so take my word they are ace, & i mean that.. ok ;) So much my newly designed recurd deck wil be the very match in heaven. :eyebrows: I aint been quiet for noffink :D

"So I charged a man named George Chenchen, who professed to be an expert in audio equipment, with helping me design our amplifier, the Amstrad 8000 (this production coincided with changing the company name to Amstrad Limited). Turns out he knew sod all and we had to go through countless stages of being told the sound quality was crap because he was incapable of following the basic principles of what produced high quality amplifier sound."

They are 'full range' drivers. Copies of a classic Mitsubishi design from the 1950s, the original Diatone P610. Free air resonance is quoted at around 45Hz and the top end extending to 20kHz (allegedly). The Diatone is not well known in the UK, but originals sell for around $500 US dollars in America and the Far East. I feel a big horn (cabinet) coming on! First, I think for simplicity's sake I'll give them a try-out on open baffles to start evaluating what they can do. I'm optimistic.
This is the Diatone I'd be interested in hearing:
