I bought this amp about 2 years ago from Angelsound Audio. Beautiful sound...ok..then problems started..sent it back repaired. A few months ago problems again starting with the slot to bias a new valve, then smoke on the right hand side, valves blinking. Had it repaired locally by A&J audio repairs, and I even replaced the valves to Russian co Watford valve Company. A few weeks later was listening with my new audiolab CD player....low and behold the sound suddenly went louder, and |AGAIN right hand side tubes flashing purple..I turned the unit off...removed it...have emailed that A&J Audio place...no reply !!!....This is a beautiful amp, has some lovely components..There is a big wood crate for transport. I do not drive, and sending this by courier could cost a fortune. Is there any one local near Torquay who is a valve amp person WHO KNOWS HOW TO FIX THESE AMPS> Appreciate any advice. Such a pity that this beaut is just sitting here.

You could try Angela Kingdom (aka Theoldtrout). Not local but not too far from Torbay in mid-Somerset.

I'd second Angela, gotta be th nearest and they really seem to a) know their stuff and b) care!

It's worth persevering as the Emile is a blinder of an amp when on song - I heard one at Scalford a few years ago driving Zingali Overtures, it was utterly sublime.

Its a lovely amp (I have one myself) and a very simple circuit, so if it was sent for repair, then I'd have expected a proper repair. The circuit is sound (based on a Mullard 5-20 by the looks of it when apart) and the components are all high quality. Build quality is stunning. I would recommend Will at Radford Revival..ok not quite in Torquay but not a million miles away and my experience with Radford Revival is that they do a first class job for very reasonable charges. Will can vouch for the Emille as he and I had mine in bits here to examine! Courier is about £45 by the way (I had mine couriered using UPS). Better to pay the courier costs and get someone competent to repair it properly. It's likely a simple case of replacing the biasing pot and any component that's burnt out so shouldn't be too expensive. I can't understand why it wasn't done properly first time round. The amp is well worth repairing and unusual to hear of one of these going wrong as they're built like a battleship.

Radford have completed the repair, and even did a modification with fuses, so protected to the hilt....and they delivered it back....
