In that case, you could simply note where the fireworks are coming from, and if there is a car (or cars) parked on the driveway, sneak out late at night when they're in bed and let down their tyres, 'key' the doors, pour some brake fluid over the bonnet and/or pop a nice 'wee note' on their windscreen outlining *exactly* what you think of the scum, anonymously of course...
Trust me, if someone was annoying me that much, making my life hell, and they lived locally, I'd be meting out some sort of retribution! :trust:

On Doolally night (Diwali), there'll be maybe a couple of hundred hefty bangs a minute. That's not an exaggeration. That's really what it's like. Barmy. And typically selfish.
At least with Diwali there is some sort of excuse. But right now, it's just sheer idiocy, and so they deserve their fireworks shoved where the sun don't shine!

Here there is a firework display a week after Bonfire Night. The people who organise it are actually proud of it. Noisy bastards.
There's nothing wrong with festivals and firework displays John, carried out in moderation, with due consent (and consideration) given to those living nearby, for whom the subsequent noise may cause some distress. Frightened animals, for example, are a major consideration.
That's the key word here: consideration and also respect for other people's rights, other than your own. In this instance, someone's right to peace and quiet, and for their pets not to cower in fear under beds, because of explosions loud enough to make the windows in the house rattle, as well as someone's right to 'party'...
Let's not forget too, that some of the noise associated with the 'Diwali celebrations' is simply due to brainless morons, who just like making a noise, being given a good excuse!!
These are the same folk who started setting off fireworks at the beginning of the month, for no reason other than being a bloody nuisance, because greedy shopkeepers have put them on sale far too early! :doh:
And it's *that* behaviour, and those idiots, which I abhor, not the folk legitimately (and quite rightly) celebrating a Hindu festival.
We all have to share the space available on this planet, so we need to learn to do it in peace and in harmony with our fellow man, not just selfishly 'doing what the hell we like', because we think we're entitled to, regardless of the impact it has on others.
As an aside, the same thing is also a major problem on forums (and in real life), and it's largely to do with the misplaced and selfish 'sense of entitlement' folk have these days!

BTW my respect for Apple is at an all time low with respect to the iPhone X. It is a total rip off hardware and accessory wise. And the face recognition stuff is a definite invasion of privacy in the wrong direction.

Tried it on firefox, and its a flash thing. if flash is not enabled it wont play. the ads were tinypics way of making money. nothing you wont get on lots of sites tbh. On firefox it didnt go to the ads like it did on chrome. I would have to enable flash to play it tho.

Cool... I have little interest in smart phones though [don't need them], only laptops, and the Macbook Pros are superb! It's undoubtedly the best computer I've ever owned :)

The reason I like the Sony, linked to above, is primarily because it looks great, seems to have an excellent screen, which is capable of displaying images to high standard (nice, natural colours, just like their TVs), and the incorporated camera seems top notch.
The rest, for me, is superfluous frippery. Any nonsense 'apps' stored on it, would be immediately removed, in order to maximise memory and maintain the speed of its core functions. If bought, it would simply be used until it broke, regardless of how outdated or 'unfashionable' it became in the interim.

Havent heard any yet which is surprising. For a long time I have just thought they are a bloody waste of money. I gave up on the organised displays many moons ago because unless its some mega display they just bore me. The local authorities couldnt really afford the best fireworks and long display I want to see. Its got some interest for families with younger kids but I have better things to do
There was a small fireworks shop in town which seemed to have a healthy all year round trade but I think its gone now. There seem to be less on sale but I saw the supermarkets have the family packs nearer to and around Nov 5th.
So what we generally get around here are people letting off the cheaper family packs in a pathetic, damp squib display. It just upsets all the local pets and sends cartridges banging against my window.
The youngsters just use them for mischief as lads used to do in our group when I was young. Theres no other reason for bangers to exist is there really

You can’t buy ‘adult’ fireworks if you’re under 18, and it’s against the law for anyone to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except on certain occasions.
Adult fireworks are category 2 and 3 fireworks - they don’t include things like party poppers.
Category 4 fireworks can only be used by professionals.
The law says you must not set off or throw fireworks (including sparklers) in the street or other public places.
You must not set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except for:
Bonfire Night, when the cut off is midnight
New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year, when the cut off is 1am
Check with your council to find out about any local rules for setting off fireworks.
Get information about firework safety from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the Health and Safety Executive.
Buying fireworks
You can only buy fireworks (including sparklers) from registered sellers for private use on these dates:
15 October to 10 November
26 to 31 December

At other times you can only buy fireworks from licensed shops.
You can be fined up to £5,000 and imprisoned for up to 6 months for selling or using fireworks illegally. You could also get an on-the-spot fine of £90.

There are a few Indian shops in the area that specialise in selling fireworks and seem to do so all year round. It seems every person having a party or other 'event' feels justified in making an almighty racket, whatever time of year (or day).

I can understand people wanting to preserve culture and traditions, those things are important, but there needs to be more of a compromise with the existing culture than there seems to be.

It is interesting that if we go to their countries we are expected to do as they do, but doesnt seem to work the other way so much. I agree with both points above. yes their are lots of folk born here but they are brought up to behave as their parents and ancestors do. I big on diversity in this country but I do expect the incomers to make an effort to try and become a part of our society and not be determined to be their own. Sure both cultures could learn from each other if they, and to an extent, we, would try harder. But as the minority, they need to try harder as many others do

Yes, but two things there:
1) The people celebrating Divali in a responsible and considerate way, whilst still having fun, are not the target of my anger or derision. It's the assholes who just like being a nuisance, and making a noise for the sake of it.
Typically those who buy fireworks and use them, outside of times of major celebrations and festivals - when they shouldn't be on sale.
2) That said, when the parents or grandparents of the former first came to the UK, *that* is when the precedent should've been set, in terms of immigrants being made to integrate properly into UK culture.
If that had happened, years ago, and the authorities concerned had been strict about it, things wouldn't be in the state they're in now!

Large signs are displayed in the windows that nobody under 18 can buy them and it is illegal to use them in the street.
Is there now a narrower time frame in which they can sell them? It seems that way

From the direction, I'd guess it was coming from the big Indian temple about a quarter of a mile away. It certainly wasn't kids as there were some large and expensive fireworks being used. They're just a bunch of 'couldn't care less' morons!
Probably because the clocks went back they decided it was only ten past eleven. Still illegal as far as I'm aware.
Find out who the head priest or whatever is and start letting fireworks off outside his gaff at one in the morning. Might need a few repeat treatments but he'll get the message eventually.
Not had any here but got a feeling its about to go mad. Last year everyone decided to let them off on the same night. It was like World War 3 until 2 in the morning!

Some sporadic firing round here last night, went on until about 2300. Could hardly hear it from inside the house though.
It was a fricking nightmare here last night, could hardly hear myself think, let alone Tangerine Dream!
The odd pop and bang in the distance here, that's all, but then I live in a civilised area... :eyebrows:;)

All quiet now...
My kitties were properly spooked last night, some huge bangs. The fireworks seem unusually loud this year.
Even the neighbour's cat who's a rangey little sod ran into our house to cower from the noise last night. Poor thing.

Yes its a real troublesome time for pets. Can you talk me through why they cant shut down from it.
I know they have very sensitive hearing and it must be really unnerving for them. What do you pet owners do...put on a cd or something.
When they hear the bangs I would have thought that they cant directly relate it physical harm so I would have thought they settle down somewhere and ride it out.
I had fireworks right at my window so I do understand how bothersome it gets

Shane was referring to my dog, who is a bit odd. The mutt is not distressed by fireworks, quite the opposite. He makes a big fuss when he hears them until he is let out to go and enjoy the bangs and flashes. The more there are the more excited he gets.
He is a rescued/rehomed dog and being a big lurcher (and I mean big at 80lb :)), I suspect he may have been taken on game shoots or similar when younger.

You can train them from an early age like they do with police or forces animals. Or you can get mild sedatives from the vet.
Most cats don't seem to be too bothered. Mine used to sit in the window and watch the light show, not concerned in the least.
My cat hated them. not to a point that she shivered but she would find a quiet place to lie. She was once out when they were going off and didnt come back for 3 days. think thats what scared her.
sons last dog used to be a pitiful sight shivering and walking about.
Our cats don't like it at all. They run and hide whenever they hear the bangs.
Fortunately, as mentioned before, there's precious little of that around here :)

Someone let one off in town yesterday. There was an almighty bang (and I mean loud!) and it stopped everyone in their tracks. A large empty cartridge appeared and rolled towards me. I dont know if It had been launched into the air or set up like a giant banger.
I see no logical reason for these things to be on sale to the general public. The bigger ones seem to be sold by dodgy characters who dont care. Always that seedy air about these small shops but they seem to do enough business to hang around.
I think it should be only organised displays with licensed operators.
Maybe Im saying that because I get no real enjoyment from fireworks. However it can not be denied that they are very dangerous explosives, they fall into the wrong hands and they are a bloody nuisance. They cause injury and misery every year. They kill people and I was reading about another arson attack and murder charge.
