For me, it's utter SHITE, in comparison with the material produced in its heyday, with the final straw being the introduction of a lady Doctor (who coincidentally looks, sounds and acts like Leanne Battersby from Coronation St), in turn killing the crucial dynamic that existed between a male Doctor and lady assistant.... The story lines are juvenile, and the production all style over substance, and as such the show is but a pale shadow of its former self.

Daleks make me sick. They want everything but are not prepared to work for it, just exterminate everyone when they don't get their own way. "Give us a bungalow or a ground floor flat with wheelchair access or else!"
Now that they can "do stairs", they are everywhere. Previous doctors should have been tougher on them.

In fairness there's a lot of jobs you just wouldn't be eligible for if you had a drain plunger and an egg whisk for arms. I know they are tightening up on disability claimants and all that but I reckon if I had a plunger and an egg whisk for arms the vet would sign me off onto the club without too much deliberation.

I was always wondering why the aliens don't just shoot Sid down and then the other night there was an episode I'd not seen before (despite the fact that I've been watching this show for the last forty-five years) where they do just that. Except he's only damaged not destroyed.
One thing they would not get away with now is insisting on all the female moonbase personnel having the same colour hair. In fact we recently had a bird at work come in with purple hair and they put her on a disciplinary for it. How times have changed.

Perhaps that was the look that young men aspired to in 1980. It was the future after all.
Personally I preferred Straker's silver urban fox look. Better than Philip Schofield's Barnett, plus he was way too cool to look at the camera and say Phil's favourite line "coming up after the break".
Not keen on Straker's car though, it looks like someone dropped a giant crate onto FAB 1.
Re the missiles: In earlier episodes they have nuclear warheads and don't need to make a direct hit to destroy the UFO, the blast being enough, but in later episodes it does seem that they actually have to hit the thing to blow it up.
So only having 3 interceptors did make sense originally. I'd guess they didn't have a 'bible' or if they did the scriptwriters just ignored it and no-one cared.

The interceptors were only armed with one missle, SkyDiver had multiple missles available as each Sky had two pods on each wing and weapons mounted just front of the pilot cabin. Not sure about the Mobile units, if I recall right each one had its own particular weapons configuration.
The models in Space1999 were originally to be part of a second series of UFO, to be called UFO 1999 but that didn't happen and Space 1999 was created. So Eagles, and Hawks would have been the space hardware used against the alien craft.
Sure UFO has its flaws, as does the second season of Space 1999 but these series I loved as a kid and despite seeing those flaws more easily as an adult I still enjoy watching both series.
Both programmes qualify as 'proper telly'. Just a shame they don't seem to understand how to make entertainment like that anymore. Its either got to have some idiotic PC message running through it like a stick of rock or it tries to be too clever for its own good. Or both.

I want to see "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" return.
They had some real adventures. And the episode with the giant whale and the one with the squid, absolute classics. And Seaview was so well engineered, it didn't matter how badly damaged it got you just had to turn some wheels and the leaks were instantly fixed. They don't build 'em like that any more!
Sure UFO has its flaws, as does the second season of Space 1999 but these series I loved as a kid and despite seeing those flaws more easily as an adult I still enjoy watching both series.

As 'Quinn Martin' productions go, they don't get any better than 'The Invaders'. That's another one I wouldn't mind seeing again. I seem to remember that they had something dodgy about their hands that gave them away.

Just watched a recording from this week "The Poseidon" remake with Kurt Russel, there is some serious bass through out with the ship explosion/fireballs, and this strange noise ? "Turn It Down" As advised here by another member "Turn It Up Till You Can No Longer Hear Turn It Down" who then disappeared off to bed:D

I'm surprised at Macca recommending watching something made after 1985. But I've watched two or three of these, and found it to be watchable escapist entertainment - place looks great, and I could happily holiday there despite the show making it look like nearly everyone is a crook. Not too taxing on the brain though. I'm glad to see that Robin Masters has shelled out for Higgins' "gender reassignment", though it hasn't helped with his/her acting, which is even shitter.
My mate's wife apparently love "Oak Island" as she is always trying to put it on when I visit, but my mate insists it's crap, so she has to go into the other room to watch. Never fancied it myself - is it anything like "Acorn Antiques"?

Love those American "mystery documentaries". Always the same formula: start out asking a question, waffle for ten minutes, take an advert break after which they repeat the footage you sat through before the break, and this carries on for a whole hour. At the end of which no one is any the wiser.

One of the last good years in music was 1994. Or maybe even the last. That Primal Scream album, Stone Roses 'Second Coming' and Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' all came out. Still play all of them now.

Matter of taste I suppose, but Massive Attack, Faithless, Orbital, Underworld, Chemical Brothers and Prodigy all had good things going on early to mid nineties. This was my "rave" period, so I suppose I'm biased.

The Jesse Stone TV movies are outstanding, really atmospheric and deep. Seriously good acting and great cast. I have them on DVD.

One I watched last night had Rick's girlfriend played by someone strangely familiar. Turns out she used to be Tony Soprano's daughter. Seems she's used the intervening 20 years to grow a pair.

Nothing in particular. Just some escapism, not too mentally taxing, some nice cars and nice scenery. Hawaii looks like an ok place to visit. Think of it as "Dragons Den goes to Hawaii", but without any Dragons. And no Den either. Just a big ass house by the ocean where I could see myself living.

When I was a nipper, my grandmother ran a sweetshop on Scotland Road. Amongst her stock was some really cheap ice lollies, one of which was a 'Pendelton's Twicer' than which, according to the adverts, nothing could be nicer. As we grew older, the rude connotations of the name struck us, so we couldn't risk asking for a Pendleton's Twicer as we'd be laughing too much and my grandmother, who was of a puritan mindset*, would want to know what was so funny.
*She once washed my cousin's mouth out with soap and water after he said 'bugger' when he stubbed his toe.

I had to look up what a Twister was so that's a good indication that I'm probably already out of my depth on this topic. But according to Wikipedia it is both an ice cream and a lollipop. And it is described as a 'lollipop on a stick' which implies that it is possible to have a lollipop without a stick. So Gaz is wrong in that the stick is not integral to the lolly. So now I don't know what to think:

This all came about because of the bizarre procedure they have at work for getting ice cream in. Instead of everyone putting in thir order they would just go out and buy a random selection of ice creams so you'd invariably get stuck with something cack that tastes of coconut or something equaly vile. Lemon sherbert I was stuck with once.
So I said I wanted a choc ice but apparently they don't exist anymore. Which I was sceptical about. Anyway they insisted that if you wanted to order your own choice you had to name a brand. I've got no idea, I never buy ice cream but some helpful young lady suggested I order a 'Magnum' Her reason? ''I think it's a bit like what you call a choc ice''. As though I'd been frozen in time for two centuries and just been revived FFS. But it is exactly like a choc ice. Just on a stick.
I only know about Twisters because they were my daughters' favourite lollies when they were nippers. The cheapest lolly was a 'milk lolly', which they could be fobbed off with when tiny, but they soon cottoned on to the fact that milk lollies were a lot smaller than Twisters.

When we were kids and dad had buggered off to pastures new, we were too skint for ice lollies. so mum decided to have a go at making them herself. She bought some moulds, sticks and an orange liquid made from God knows what. We both came out in a fierce red rash as a result, so that was the end of that. Got us a couple of days off school though.
Fast forward 25 years, and the toxic lollies were obviously still in her thoughts, and each time I visited my mum with the ankle biters, it was Magnums all round :)

Loved the fact that when they were filming easy rider, after the long riding shoots with him riding his high handle barred bike. When they had a rest he couldn't get his beer to his mouth because his arms had seized up.
Another thing was when Jack Nicholson went off on his 'venusians' part. He was so stoned that it took ages to film it. He broke up laughing for ages half way through and everyone thought it wasn't going to happen, but they kept rolling and he just started again and did the full take. Just brilliant.
Toni basil who in the 80s had the hit 'oh micky' was also in the film.

I first became aware of 'Sleep' when it was mentioned by Cerys Matthews on her radio show, though it wasn't until the TV programme that I heard any of it. Whilst you only heard part of the six hour long work, I found I wasn't really listening to it. Maybe that is the idea, otherwise it might be too distracting and actually prevent people falling asleep.
I often fall asleep listening the bedside radio, only to wake up six or seven hours later with it still on! The only effect is that it can sometimes influence my dreams during the REM stages.

Christ I thought Quantum Leap and Brittas Empire were both unwatchable back when they were originally broadcast. Both are on again at the moment, forget which channel. Might be Forces TV.

The making of 'Freak Out' was shown recently: I prefer early Zappa (with The Mothers of Invention) to his later output, especially when he was going through what I call his "vaudeville period".

There is a sequel, also with Arnie, 'Conan The Destroyer.' It's much the same formula.

I watched “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” on Prime Video a couple of nights ago.
Directed by Guy Ritchie, and basically based on true events and the birth of “black ops” in WW2.
Mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it, worth a go if it sounds like your kind of movie and have Prime.

The Northman is an epic revenge thriller, that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father. A highly convoluted plot that mixes Viking history with Nordic mythology, I found it hard to follow, especially as there are a host of characters and it is largely filmed in 'murkovision'.

Made the mistake of getting some beer in for it and before they even got to the national anthem I was falling asleep, so I taped it and watched it this morning.
It was a massacre, not even close, so not an especially exciting game but it had its moments.

Yeah, we should get back into Reacher, good entertainment. Only thing is, Prime does my head in with all the adverts you can't fast forward through. And I'm not going to pay them even more money to get round it, no way.
