I've read you can use wd40 on a cotton tip (cotton ear bud) and rubbed on the oxidation. Other than that what Grant suggests should work too, dampen the foil in the coke and then rub the rca jacks

Well this amplifier arrived sure needed a good clean seems to have come up well as of yet not tested

The one thing the seller did not mention was the Rust/Oxidized RCA inputs jacks:steam::steam::steam:....Any idea on how to remove this from them?

Trust me on this Neil, I almost definitely made this amp myself, it was also me who came up with the name "Mistral" :)

These amps were not made until 96, maybe 97.

Also, they could be supplied with the phono board inside, which is basically an LFD mmo board but from memory different caps but pretty much the same as the MMO.

It could be changed to MC by soldering across a couple of pins, or was it cutting the solder joint, cant remember which way round.

But it was far more than a get you home phone stage:)

A phono stage board could be retro fitted to these amps, but as it happens this one definitely does have the phono board inside, I messaged the seller and asked.

Btw, not a huge difference between the mistral and the LFD int zero, wiring and caps tbh, same main pcb and transformer.

The Int Zero LE had a bigger transformer and heatsink which actually meant about 90 watts, its the same transformer that went into all the bigger lfd amps at the time.

I did suggest to Richard that we should make a super mistral with this transformer, cant actually remember if any were made though, might have been...

Very interesting post Jeff.

Green scouring pad (pot cleaner) with a little Brasso or T-cut on it. Be careful not to rub the plating completely off though.

It may well clear itself in a few days. Some blockers allow you to greenlight sites, or to disable on pages/ sites etc. Mine did it a while back, but a few days later it was ok again.

It's a nice combination. The TT looks in top original condition. And the rare Mk.III elliptical is towards the top end of how good a Decca can sound. It even has the correct arm rest and lifter. The price is very fair.

gawd knows.. the missus of the original proud owner, probably had it stuck in the garage, (underneath the hole in the roof) after the hubby died because she was happy with a transistor radio and it didn't go with her flock wallpaper.

The arsewipe who's selling it doesn't have a clue, but he has got a smartphone.. the only good result is that the seller is being billed 4% of the reserve price (at least £54)..they do say that you pay to learn... :D

not that I know anything about speakers but surely that's a mistake, if they were trying it on would they not have a BIN. I guess they needed top quality speakers to partner the top of the range system pictured.

I thought these looked good value. Going to Edinburgh for the weekend and could pop over but suspect I wouldn't be able to bring them back as hand luggage.

Yeah. It could be a mistake. Stupid one though. :)

Those Goodmans Goodwoods are not a matched pair. One of the bass units has the vinyl 'skin' (which appears to be coming unstuck in places) over the whole cone and forming the roll surround and the other has a vinyl roll surround and a doped cone. Also the centre dust cap of one mid driver is pushed in, easy enough to sort though.

I bought them in sixties corner cabinets and that's how I've kept them so far. They sound incredibly lucid.

The pair on eBay are a bit pricey, but do look in very nice nick.

Not eBay, rather a physical auction house called Criterion on the Essex Rd very close to the Angel, Islington in London.

A pair of Cambridge Soundworks Newton T500, lower estimate of £100 and knowing this place they could well sell for £50. They take online bids, if anyone's interested.

Auction starts at 3pm today I think.

Anyone have an idea what these are actually worth? (Assuming they even work!)

I had a pair of BC1's for many years. The bass units look like they may well be right with one a later factory replacement. they were only rated @ 40W and I blew one of mine and ended up "upgrading" to the 55W's direct from Spendor.

The HF 1300's are right but the missing Coles unit is only available "used".

The bass units will be prone to sagging, and I doubt if the joker selling them really has a clue as to how they should/might sound but if the bass units are "right" they are still a good price for the parts.

Hi Taz

Their an interesting design but worth what i payed for them - sound wise good for their size i tested them with "Dark Side of The Moon" and was quite taken with the clarity as Geoff has stated their is no low bass but its very light but its noticeable but the instrumental detail is clean verdict i will keep them as they are too cute not too apparently the cone magnet is nearly the size of the cabinet.

Theirs a pair on eBay ending today @ £29 its a BIN price so take a look and give them a go if you want to if not i will put an offer in for these too great for the money ideal for my just put something on to play music with no fuss.

You aren't that close to them either. Fair old round trip. Not sure what the 'multi channel' switch does. Possibly it defeats the internal crossover for fully active operation? Hence the separate binding posts for each driver. Seems unlikely but can't think what else it might do.

TazSob

They are a distance away, would have asked a mate to pick them up for me who works as a delivery driver or arrange courier if they were worth the trouble. I occasionally buy records and CDs from eBay. There does seem to be a trend towards UK sellers advertising / transacting in US dollars (presumably those who sell more items overseas) following the depreciation of sterling. It may work as an export strategy but it's putting me off as bidding prices rise.

Never sell at that price even though they look minty mint.

Speakers like this no-one thinks are any good. But they are super efficient, an easy load, and will work best close to a wall - all factors that a lot of people need in a speaker and that most modern speakers don't have.

You're like me, rarely buy any hifi that's delivery only, wouldn't trust couriers with something I'm looking forward to trying esp vintage and usually drive some distance if I have found a deal. The other thing I do is if I'm traveling to another town or city I'll look up local ads on Gumtree and see if there is another deal to be had, found the more north you go the cheaper items can get

I think these MAY be RB65's - if so, they are a 3 way with a 12" bass unit with foam surround which may have rotted out unless replaced.' Lively' and somewhat unrefined top end, coloured midrange and oodles of bass. Below the Achromat range at the time - in line with the old Wharfedale XP2's although no XP2 with a 12' driver - sold loads in Comet in 70's early 80's. Loads of fun for possibly not much money. Worth a punt, in my opinion, foam surrounds notwithstanding.

This guy does not know what drivers are in the speakers. Loads of other HIFI stuff in his other ads, so assume he has a bit of an idea. States they would look good in any home, no mention of how they sound.

They look hideous though. Cheap nasty terminal plate on back doesn't say much for them.

Terminal plate doesn't say much for them, the seller doesn't say much, the carpenter who built them doesn't say much, but would look good in any home.
Depends on if you have a wood burner.
Well to be honest, i have seen far worse looking speakers. You would think he would give more info on the sound. He has amps, CD player, etc in other items, so just seems dodgy to me, could be wrong though.

The mid and upper bass drivers look to be from the B&W '6' series, as does the port. They seem to be made from the remenents of a B&W 684, the tweeter is not correct though so maybe they got blown, hence the re-build.

I often wonder what happened to the hundreds of thousands of radiograms sold in the '60s and '70s...

struth

They got scrapped in their thousands. They mostly had valve amps in and garard decks, and were piss poor. There was a trade in the amps for a while. The nicer ones were stripped and kept as furniture.

Brum to Dorset isn't really a huge distance ... rattle down the M40/A34 what can it be 2 1/2 hours each way? Saturday morning pick up, early start, meet mid-morning, be home in time for a late lunch. He might even meet you part-way.

You can see that packing up this lot safe enough for shipping would be a major hassle.

It's not possible at the minute. I can see why he wouldn't ship but I could have arranged a courier. Went to Manchester a few weeks back and although we left Birmingham at 3pm we didn't arrive till gone 7pm, so it depends on the traffic..

A couple of aerosols of paint and you're sorted. It'll be ideal for some background sounds at those barbeque parties.
