Excellent album and excellent recording quality. Through my Maggie 1.7i's and SVS PB-1000 Pro subs, the performance is right here in my room and the sound is completely divorced from the speakers and subs. The front half of the room is completely gone as well.

Disagree, Roxy Music's debut album was IMO their worst; the only good track on it is 'Virginia Plain'. Unusually for any pop group, their following titles were better, much better.

No, don’t agree, their first was the grounding for the future way for them, in writing and style, set the scene for the superb ‘For Your Pleasure’ album.

Roxy had a completely unique sound in 1972, I was 14 at the time, many of my school mates just did not get them, including Virginia Plain. It wasn’t until around ‘75 that they moved to a more pop/rock sound, presumably driven by Mr Ferry’s wish to become famous and rich, but even then kept their distinct style.

Avalon is easily my favourite of all the albums that followed "Stranded".

Just to be pedantic: "Virginia Plain" never appeared on the vinyl version, just went onto the CD for some reason. Never bothered me, as I was still buying singles back then, and "Virginia Plain" was an essential of that summer. Very good summer too, as Silver Machine, All The Young Dudes, School's Out and Metal Guru were all keeping it company in the charts iirc.

Hi Adrian. I don't think I'd classify it as Glam Rock but, it did sort of get classified (along with a lot of the groups that came out at that time) with the 80's Glam Metal scene. It's a good album if you like that kind of AOR/Metal vibe - the playing (musicianship) on it is superb (as is with a lot of bands that came out at that time.)

Give it a whirl on Spotify or via You Tube and see what you think. If you can still find the live set that they did in 1991 at Wembley stadium - that really hits the mark - especially the last track of the set called "Cant Get Enough." You know you're gonna get good music when you've got Reb Beech on guitar!!!!

It may take several listens, some tracks are complex. Omar Alfredo Rodríguez-López who writes and produces the music, manages the recordings by bringing individual band members and guests into the studio separately and gives them the score and asks them to play individually in strict tempo. He believes this enables him to get the best form each, often they never see the score before recording or hear it until all put together. Once he has all the individual parts he then mixes the tracks together. Lyrics can be tricky until you get used to Cedric Bixler-Zavala vocals to using a lyric site as you listen can help. All their albums have a theme of sorts or story, it might help to have a read of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mars_Volta#Discography. "The Bedlam in Goliath" is my favourite, but is a challenging listen for many reasons.

They released a new album in September, their first in 10 years, I am waiting its arrival.

They are one of my recent favourite bands, and have all on vinyl, although I was a latecomer to them a few years ago.
