Sonora microRendu arrived yesterday afternoon, set it up, and the initial 2 month Roon trial, it looks rather nice. All worked fine and then I switched to my/dnla o try with Audirvāna and initially all good, tried to go back and the lost any sound from anything, and streaming was screwed. 🥲 After tea I powered everything off and rebooted the Mac and restarted the microRendu, into Roon and presto all worked fine, why [emoji848]. This morning powered up and put some test listening track on below.

It sounds rather sweet!

New Faithless album ‘All Blessed’

Coincidence - I was playing "To all New Arrivals" when i saw this post :) Now moved onto "Reverence/Irreverence".

I thought I was on top of Faithless releases, but "All Blessed" seems to have passed me by. I'll remedy that quickly. I read Amazon's description, which says it's their first studio effort in TEN years - surely not! So I looked at my copy of "The Dance", and there it is, 2010 :eek: Where did that 11 years go to? That's a worry.

Anyway, the Amazon led me to an album called "The Last Summer" by R Plus, which is Dido and one third of Faithless (Rollo). So I think I'll check it out. Apparently "All Blessed" has no Dido contributions (she is a perfect fit for Faithless) so hopefully "The Last Summer" will make up for this :)

PVC is colourless, it is made black by adding carbon 'black' to the mix, which not only helps with cueing, but being a (poor) conductor helps to dissipate static.

But despite the above, I detest coloured vinyl for aesthetic reasons, and have none in my record collection.

Spinning now, probably my favourite Manfred Mann's Earth Band album, although they are all good, this one is IMO the most avant-garde and is certainly one of those standout prog/rock albums from the 70's along with, Golden Earring's - Moontan, and Atomic Rooster's - The Devil Bites Back.

If you haven't heard it once then give it a go, some driving rock with soaring organ, sublime guitar solos floating over and interesting songs, with a few effects along the way.

Those song titles take me back, mostly late '71 to '72 I would say. I had about half of those singles, I hadn't progressed to buying albums till '73 :) They certainly could cram the tracks on those compilations back then, but on most people's record players the effect on sound quality went pretty much unnoticed.

I was 14 back in ‘72, I started listening to radio stations in my room on an old valve Pyle set in ‘68, and was recording the Top 20 on a Grundig R2R in 1970.

Similar to me Adrian, I turned 14 in Jan '72. My brother had got an old (even then) Philips reel to reel for Christmas, and we used to hang the microphone over the back of a dining chair in front of the telly speaker to record Top of the Pops.

The sound of our budgie chirping and the kitchen door creaking became an integral part of our less-than-pristine recordings of "Telegram Sam" and "California Man", and the absence of these sound artefacts on the shop-bought singles took some getting used to :) Happy days

A friend also did much the same, I graduation to cassette tapes in about 1971 I think on a small Pye portable.

Mike, I rather liked The Brian Jonestone Massacre, a modern take on psychadelic/rock, I will listen to more of theirs.

Also Matt Berninger's album is rather good, I had not associated him with The National, some of theirs I like.

Earth: 'Pentastar- In The Style of Demons' is possibly a drone step too far for me, although I got a Black Sabbath feel in parts, I kept waiting for it to develop but did not. Perhaps it needs another listen.
