Just finishing this one, and I have to say the Tannoys are doing their magic, piano on "Year of the Cat" track actually sounds real, I wasn't sure before thought it might have been electric piano, and the string section os so smooth. Oooh each record is becoming a new adventure!

Yes I was 20 when I saw them live at City Of London Uni. The Cars has just their 2nd album I believe, I thought he was in his twenties not 34. They were really great.

This is the most recent, St Germain is the performance name for Ludovic Navarre, his first album from 95 is Boulevard, more Acid jazz with crossovers, then in 99 was “From Detroit to St Germain” which I am trying to find at a sensible price on vinyl, then in 2000 was “Tourist” sold 4 million worldwide a cracking mix jazz downtempo album, my favourite, then the eponymously named album.

This has to be one of the best Blues/Rock albums ever, driving bass lines, superb guitar lines from Mr Trower and wonderful drumming, and on top of that the material is all excellent. It has thunderous bass and drums which drive the energy of the songs along and compliments Robin Trower's playing greatly.

I think this may be one of my favourite Doobie albums, it has a sense of immediacy in the recording and playing, as if they went into the studio and just laid it down, and then went home or on tour. Even though the cover is a photo from a live show Diddle Arena, Western Kentucky University the album was recorded at Burbank Studios, Burbank, CA.

I keep coming back to this album, it is well worthing tracking a copy down, brilliantly produced and the drums and bass on it is a great speaker work out, loving it on the Tannoys.

A friend recommended this to me today, they are a Russian duo, called “Iamthemorning” as written. They also use other musicians, notably a couple from Porcupine Tree, and others, this is their fourth album.

It is rather good and interesting, well worth a listen.

I came across this by complete accident due to a link to Ommadawn, the singer/writer, Clodagh Simonds apparently invented the word Ommadawn in a book. It turns out that this album is a highly sought after folk-rock album with all sorts of cross-overs. It is extremely good and sadly rather expensive to buy. Clodagh Simonds is also in a current band Fovea Hex, I have dipped into some of their material on Tidal as well and it is excellent.

Got this fantastic record a couple of days ago, one of my favourite albums. Some great music and huge dynamics.

If you have not heard it give it a listen, it is a concept album.

Wikipedia "The album follows Billy, a mentally and physically disabled man from Wales, forced to live with his uncle David in Los Angeles after his brother Benny was sent to prison after an act intended to support striking coal miners results in the death of a taxi driver, following his dismissal from his mining job due to "market forces." This arrived in the post today, I treated myself to this NM copy, do not know why but it is quite hard to get hold of and can be quite expensive. I have always loved Neil Young and Crazy Horse, they have that raw in your face sound that just grabs you, well it does me anyway. It is a great live recording IMO.

One of my favourite YES albums, as a teenager I had it on cassette and would often listen to it so I know it quite well. Some people pooh pooh it as have too many fillers and infills, but I do not agree with this, the four pieces generally flow and are well constructed IMO. I think you need to listen to it at least 3 times to get to grips with it, a one off listen and you may not get it.

Not sure about this UB40 album, some tracks very good, but on a couple they seem or feel lack-lustre, maybe they were struggling to capture their essence, in fact at times it feels over produced and missing their rawness, possibly a bit to commercial.

I picked this up as well today, I have to say this is an excellent album, Leo Sayer did some very good songs, especially on his early albums. IMO there is not one bad song on this album. They actually could easily be released today with a modern feel and would do very well.
