My Dad introduced me to Alma Cogan's music. This is one of her LPs from the early 60s when she was trying to move away from the novelty songs she was not far in the 1950s. Classy stuff. Apple Lossless CD rip.

I have cheated a little as the CD it came from is a (beautifully remastered) compilation on Music for Pleasure of her two Columbia albums. I like to rip a 'twofer', split it into its original LPs and then scrounge the cover art off the internet! Copies of these albums on original vinyl seem to be rarer than rocking-horse doo-doo. :(

Final track on this album is (I think) the best version of Noel Coward's If Love Were All. Her final, posthumous album has a clutch of incredible Beatles-covers from when the songs were pretty much freshly minted.

I think it's still available on CD (as 'With Love in Mind') or they crop up on eBay and Amazon sellers at least. There was an MFP double LP version as well, but to me (nerdy collector) it doesn't have the same romance if it's not on the original label. The original album didn't sell well as EMI didn't know what to do with a serious Alma Cogan perhaps thinking she was encroaching on Shirley Bassey territory, hence I've not been able to find the Columbia LPs.

To be honest the UK music '80's "scene" mostly bored the arse of me..tho I appreciate that if that was what you grew up with, your views will be different :D

I picked up on the USA garage / Oz bands through friends and a little Indi shop in Clacton-On-Sea. Interesting Times....

I'm also happy to admit that there are many albums on my shelf bought because of fora like this...

It had never really struck me before, but now you mention it yes she does. It's probably Alma doing the imitating, as on another album she has an affectionate dig at Shirley Bassey on 'I get a kick out of you' --

Tonight I'm playing a little Stacey Kent, limbering up for her new album ('Tenderly') which is due out on Friday. Saw her again as Ronnie Scotts back in September and she was excellent.

Jazz (of course) -- slender voiced, bit of a storyteller in song and good with a wordy lyric. I've seen her live seven or eight times now and I don't think I've heard her put out a bum note. Her husband and musical director is British saxophonist Jim Tomlinson who plays very Getzian tenor on her albums, as well as (occasionally) soprano sax and flute. Some people compare her with Blossom Dearie but I think the similarities are slight and only superficial. Another of my favourites. I think there's quite a bit of Stacey on Spotify.

Deep Purple "Come Taste the Band" 35th Anniversary Edition on CD.

I started getting into the original version of this album a few weeks back, having previously been a stalwart Deep Purple Mk II line-up fan. Sorry for being so late to the party but the Kevin Shirley remix is a real WOW ! - each of the drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and vocals is so much clearer and more upfront. I'm normally sceptical of the value of all this remastering, remixing and re-releasing gubbins but CD2 of this set is top notch.

Ever since (slightly) participating in the "White Album" discussion on this board, I've been listening to some of the stereo Beatles' albums that I've only listened to in mono for the past five or so years. I bought the mono and stereo remasters at the same time, and somehow settled on the mono mixes as preferable. Now I find that for both Magical Mystery Tour the The White Album, it's kind of "six of one, half-a-dozen of the other" proposition. The mixes are slightly different, and both mixes of each of these albums sound good.
