Having just loaned a copy of this album, (as I did not know it was out until I saw Idlewithnodrive's post) I have to say that since Manson has had all the 5h1t going on with his lawsuits etc. I didn't know what to expect. I can now tell you that I think this album is REALLY GOOD!!!! If I had to define it, I'd say its a little like crossing Mechanical Animals album with The Pale Emporor album - the only difference (IMHO) being that the production isn't as good on this as it is on the other two (Mechanical Animals is an absolute CLASS ALBUM from start to finish and the Pale Emporor isn't too far behind but it cant compete with Mechanical Animals)!!!!!

I shall wait for the price to drop a little and will definitely purchase this to go alongside all of his other albums that I have (which is nearly every one that he's done except for 2). The only reason I haven't got those two missing ones is because I never got round to getting them........... that can easily be rectified!!!!

After loaning a copy of this album, (as I did not know it was out until I saw Idlewithnodrive's post) I have to say that I think this album is REALLY SO GOOD, I've just got to play it again (Sam)!!!!

I'd still say this album is like crossing Mechanical Animals album with The Pale Emporor album - the only difference (IMHO) being that the production isn't as good on this as it is on the other two (Mechanical Animals is an absolute CLASS ALBUM from start to finish and the Pale Emporor isn't too far behind but it cant compete with Mechanical Animals)!!!!! I'd even go as far as to say that I can hear a slight Grunge element in places aswell.

I shall still definitely wait for the price to drop a little (because I'm a tight fisted b45tard) and will definitely purchase this to go alongside all of his other albums that I have (which is nearly every one that he's done except for 2). The only reason I haven't got those two missing ones is because I never got round to getting them........... that can easily be rectified!!!!

Yeah I only paid a quid for it at a car boot - if I'd paid full whack I'd be gnashing, it's far from being my favourite Massive Attack album, but I thought I'd give it a second play. I'll give it a third go in another five years :)

Mostly agree, definitely a return to form. I loved everything up until "Eat Me, Drink Me" with "Anti-Christ Superstar", "Mechanical Animals" and "The Golden Age of Grotesque" sharing honours for best Album, depending on when you ask me. He lost his way a bit after that, imo, until this Album. It’s very decent.

Interestingly, after a 30 year hiatus, Propaganda released a new album late last year I have discovered - the self-titled Propaganda:

Propaganda - Propaganda (2024)

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250214/4d3f5436e2f57b007d0d184ea435e411.jpg

And after a couple of listens, whilst it is not “A Secret Wish Pt.2” it’s rather lovely in my opinion, with special mention to the new vocalist Thunder Bae, who has had a few EPs but is a new one to me.

It looks like it is available on (double) vinyl and CD, as well as Tidal and Spotify, and I would definitely recommend giving it a listen.

Got to say I was never keen on them, or Kraftwerk. There's something very bleak about German music. I suppose that's part of the appeal for some but I was never into all that dark 'world is doomed' stuff when I was a teenager either.

Bag o' shite!

I was going to put on Happy Mondays greatest hits CD, the one I took to NEBO. And guess what? Empty bloody case :( I don't expect I'll see that again, CDs aren't valued like vinyl copies, and are more akin to cheap biros, ie easily replaced. Oh well, I'll get a replacement at some point.

I'll go with this instead, also on this morning's TOTP.

No, it was being played in the pub when we left. Whoever owned that CD player prob found the disc next day, but didn't where it came from. Never mind, replacement's only about 3 quid, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. It's the empty case on the shelf that'll make my brain itch.

Mid 70’s country rock, probably classed as Americana now, several songwriters in the band, Jack Tempchin who wrote some songs for the Eagles and Jules Shear who had success on his own and with his band the Polar Bears.

Soft Machine - 'Volume Two'

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/01/Soft_Machine-Volume_Two-Cover.jpg?20150830022145

More 'quirky' and less jazzy than 'Third', Volume Two is a classic of the Canterbury sound with its imaginative combination of pop, prog, nonesense rhyme and puns.

It's a double CD of live versions of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters compositions.

Did I say I didn't like "Us + Them"? I don't remember. I dont really like his solo stand-alone titles: "Pros and Cons of Hitchiking"; "Radio Kaos"' etc. - they don't capture my attention, or they are far too miserable.

My apologies Barry, you said the exact opposite really (post #31253) I hate it when my memory lets me down :( The only solo studio album I have is "Is this the Life we really want?", which I quite like, but I've no plans to try his other albums. I did hear "Radio Kaos" at a friends, and I don't recall being too impressed. Maybe 40 years on it'll sound different.

The Jam - Sound Affects; one of my favourite Jam albums - I'll play it today in memory of Rik Buckler (The Jam drummer) who died yesterday. I met him a few times over the years and I must say, what a great down to earth guy!!

R.I.P. Rik and thanks for the music!!!

Agreed! That's one of Lenny's best recordings.

I saw him back in the late '60s, early '70s in Manchester. I was amused by the backing singers who were with him - they looked like they had been just finished their day's work in a typing pool!

Kinobe - VerseBridgeChorus? (2001)

https://i.discogs.com/t7K2uMun3sN3rQuRiVuXPLSaeakkv3qzWTbdQLzxxDA/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:598/w:600/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9SLTEyNjU4/NTctMTIwNTA3Njg0/MS5qcGVn.jpeg

Most famous for "Slipping into Something" (Comfortable or otherwise) I love all of Kinobe's early works, but this, their second album, is probably my favourite. The opening track "Butterfly" is one of my top songs of all time, with a beautiful vocal by Victoria Horn, who seems to have done precious else, which is a shame (although she does backing vocals on "Summer in the Studio" also on this album, based on a sample of "Summer in the City" by The Lovin' Spoonful.)

An essential downtempo/chillout album in my view if you don't already have it - the early 2000's was the pinnacle of the chillout genre in my humble opinion.

Yes, RIP Roberta. I did spin a few of her tracks earlier from a "Best of" album.

Newly discovered to me, is "Cloves" (A.K.A. Kaity Dunstan) - she provides the vocal on the John Summit single, Focus, which I really like, so I have now played this, her debut album a couple of times.

Cloves - One Big Nothing (2018)

Nothing like the John Summit EDM track, this is female singer-songwriter stuff, with a bit of pop and edginess, and nicely produced.

It's even got BB King on it. There was an interview with him during which he was asked who he'd like to collaborate with next, and he said 'Fun Lovin Criminals.' So they got him in.

Brilliant album, it gets a regular play and is still in good nick.

I'm on my second copy - it's 40 years since I lent my first copy to someone, and when I got it back a year later it looked like he'd took a dump on it and wiped it off with sandpaper. That was the last time I lent anyone any of my vinyl.

 I remember around 5-10 vinyl albums I lent to "friends" back in the 80's - none of which I ever saw back, so whether they dumped or sandpapered them is (literally) their business, not mine... But as my old Granny used to say, "neither a lender or borrower be" - she was probably right.

In other news, I just got a "track playlist" song via Tidal - "Out of Touch" by Hall & Oates. Now, I absolutely love the track "Out of Touch" by Uniting Nations - I was today years old until I realised it was a cover!

While the band were recording the album, the Eagles were recording Hotel California in an adjacent studio at Criteria Studios in Miami. "Before we could start recording we had to scrape all the cocaine out of the mixing board", Geezer divulged to Uncut in 2014. "I think they'd left about a pound of cocaine in the board." The Eagles were forced to stop recording on numerous occasions because Sabbath were too loud and the sound was coming through the wall

Yes that is the one I , the other is Faust IV.
The Faust tapes is, to my ears, just a collection of odds and ends; probably released to fulfill contractual obligations. But whatever the reason I find it interesting listening, though not something I would play frequently.

Today the LP will set you back anywhere between £25 and £60!

That is how I remember it, though it must be nearly 50 years since I last heard it. There were a few vinyl "bargains" about in the 70s, another being a reggae sampler record on Virgin called "The Front Line", which was just 99p. Also Pink Floyd's "Relics" was only 99p.

One of many records I used to have that "disappeared" when I moved house. Maybe one day my ex missus will phone to say "Guess what I found in the attic".

Thought I'd go with a bit of Strolling Bones too. A 'best of' LP that hasn't seen daylight for about four decades.

Saw the CD of that the other day, £2.50 I didn't get it though. They had a copy of Jimmy Nail 'Crocodile Shoes' - nearly got it for you but thought you'd probably want it on vinyl.

Got a VG vinyl copy of 'Emotional Rescue' you can have that next time you're down here.

It seems every time I visit you end up one record poorer, but I appreciate the gesture :) As for Crocodile Shoes, well, I'm all nailed out - Auf Weidersehen Pet and Spender is all the Jimmy Nail I need.

Sent from my iPad using TapatalkMine probably used to be Age of Love by Age of Love but occasionally when on a night out I'd hear something else that was my favourite at that moment. Until the next track came in [emoji23] Like Energy Flash by Joey Beltram.

On our club nights there were certain tracks that were guaranteed to fire us up, Xpansions 'Move Your Body', 'Bells of NY' by Slo Moshun and 'Back by Dope Demand' by King Bee were ones that come to mind. Those were the days :)

I've just had a look at my two copies and to my surprise find they are both first pressings i.e. A1-U, B1-U. So they would be worth about £50 each on the used market, not that that interests me.

What did interest me was the term "pinch pleat spine" used to describe the appearence of the spine of the record sleeve. The top 1" and bottom 1" of the spine are indeed pressed flat as in a pinched pleat in dressmaking. It was not a term I had heard of before, but is often used as a homonym for 'first pressing'.

Sadly my copy of Relics (MFP 50397) is a somewhat later pressing: A-3, B-5. Shouldn't be surprised as the title on the front of the sleeve: "Relics Pink Floyd" is coloured in pink, whereas in the original issue it is black and white, like the rest of sleeve artwork.

Yeah my copy of Relics was an early one, just black and white. Though some folk I knew coloured theirs in themselves  I agree about record values, won't make any difference to me, maybe Anita or some other next-of-kin will benefit, but I'll be gone by then.

Funnily enough, I ended up playing my daughter some Stranglers last night - she was making pancakes for Shrove Tuesday and she asked me if it was done and I said it should be "golden brown" and that's how it started!

And when she asked how long each side, you said "5 minutes and you're almost there" which unfortunately proved to be "Burning up time" one of the best things with kids is making them cringe with dad jokes :)
