CD Storage

I'm looking to transfer my CDs from the old jewel-cases to plastic CD sleeves to save space. The 125mm square cases are fine for the CD and the front booklet but too short to also house the track listing paperwork that sits at the back of the jewel-case ( needs to be 140mm)......anyone solved this or any suggestions?

You can get some from Japan that house the mini LPCD just like you would an LP {I'm not talking the thin resealable ones} no they are thick poly..anyway they are open ended 145mm x 145mm

John, if you don't go the larger size route, the best 125mm square ones I have found are from Wilko - very good value at £1.95 for 50.

You can get around 100 in an IKEA 'Kassett' Box, which are £2.75 for two. So you can neatly store 100 CDs for around £5.25.

I scan the entire cover art (including disc) to a .pdf document, so I don't ever need to access them after this and keep the rear liner notes separately in 'Kassett' boxes.

About 12 years ago whilst running a radio station from home, the ability to store physical CD's was more and more important, and at the same time with the nice ability of being able to call up playing of discs easily. Such a solution might also fit in with your question as you no longer would have to be removing and placing back into CD sleeves.

So back then the Sony Mega players were very attractive and can house up to 400 discs, I ended up with 2 x 200 and 1x 300 disc players. A second option that i use every day as well is to record real time your entire CD collection on to Yamaha CDRHD1500 recorders, here a Disc so called, is 3 hours duration, and for even better quality use a DBX150x to compand ( a word describing the dual action of compression and expansion ). For me this has been the perfect solution to many years prior of putting CD's in and out of covers. The yamaha with a 500 gb IDE hard disc fits about 650 CD's with amazing if not better quality than the original CD due to using the DBX.

Well looks like I've found the answer at a Bootfair this morning.....with 250 hanging sleeves (double sided so potential storage for 500 CDs and associated booklets) 1250 * 1400 (at a push).
Plus what appears to be 400+ CDs/DVDs of MP3s ( which I will of course dispose of)
£10 !

Now to find boxes big enough to store all the jewel cases in the loft.

Thanks Richard.....the car boot find doesn't quite do the job in relation to storing all the booklets and back sheet together, so am interested in these. Could you loan me one to test it?

Yes we had a great time at festival and back to work with a bump last weds for me. Looking forward to doing it all again next year. Had a nice day on Tues enjoying all the new music I wanted to listen to and stuff I'd heard for first time there.

I've found my perfect album for that post festival haze.... Beck - Morning Phase, I've never been his biggest fan but this new stuff has its hooks pretty deep in me. Certainly my album of the year so far.

I'm at the stage where I rip all my CDs and never listen to the actual disc. I still keep them though. I found some nice storage boxes online that hold about 50 CDs (in single file) in their cases and I have about 8* of these all stored under the bed.

I generally use Wikipedia or something if I need to know something about the album.

*I do need some more though.
