Cunning Plan - CD tower storage Bass Trap ?

What do we think .........

CD towers made of wood with plastic CDs in are hardly normal bass trap material - but
I could do with a CD tower or 10 and I have corners free to stick them in.
Might even look good

or could it sound worse ?!

It would certainly diffuse the lower frequencies, but I would be concerned that the CDs would rattle.

I have Ladderax with closed doors for LPs which are probably more reflective than the walls.
I'm shuffling LPs today so I could try with all the doors open.....
Is that IKEA LP racks, if not whose ?

That's quite a deviation from being level Marco re the record racks compared to the CD racks.

I would try levelling the bottom one (wood shims) and the rest should be fine. However the other issue, is the floor where they are sited, it could be sagging under the weight.? Is the floor overly springy in and around where they are? If so you may have a potentially serious problem. You could put a wee bit of tape there to mark where the position is now and see if it changes/moves but by then it could be too late.

First thing I saw when I looked at the photo was the amount of lean in the record racks - I would be worried if it was my room.

If the corners are the handy place for the racks, then why not do it ? Certainly won't cause any harm.

As for Ladderax - I still have a selection of cabinets which are ideal for record storage. Unfortunately, I gave away the ladders...:doh:

I can just fit an Ikea thin CD rack in 2 out of 4 corners
Ladderax is great. I have loads of it. Be glad to take record cab's off your hands if they are the dark wood.
Still to test open and closed with the system !

Lol... Worry not, although the shelves may not be level (it looks much worse from the camera angle in the picture than it is in actuality), they're all secured firmly to the wall with heavy-duty brackets, screws and rawplugs, so they ain't going anywhere, dude :)

And as for the floor, you're talking about massively thick suspended wooden floors, befit of a 100+ year old property. There is no sagging under the weight, so don't worry. Thanks for your concern, however! :cool:

Lol... Thankfully, OCD is not something I suffer from. If it were supports for my kit, however, that'd be a different matter, and they'd be as level as a very level thing (which indeed my Mana stands are) :)

The main thing is that the record shelves are safe and secure (within easy reach and catalogued correctly), and from the listening position you're not aware of anything being uneven. It's a massive improvement on before, where most of the CDs and records you see there were simply lying all over the floor! :eek:

Besides, what takes your attention much more than anything else, when you're sitting down, is how good the music sounds (not if the shelves are a bit squinty), which is the most important thing!! :gig:

The other point, of course, of most relevance to Mike, is that installing extensive CD/vinyl shelves *can*, in some instances, improve and/or address issues relating to room acoustics.
