Just unpacked the CDs I picked up on Saturday and have spent the evening spinning them. On Fleabay I got for £72 squids the complete Orbis Blues Collection from the 80s. 92 albums and the bound magazines. I collected these when they came out but the local newsagent stopped getting them for me after 75 and my ex slung the mags in a skip along with my Yamaha CS80 and my fully restored WEM Telstar organ. Anyway this is a great library of the blues and I'm having a great time spinning 76 onward as I'd note heard them before. :)

What? She WAITED until you had restored it - and THEN ferried it to the skip? That's nasty. That's REAL nasty.

Ooh!
Is that one a live version of the current album release?
I have the current one on vinyl, and it came with the CD inside too (other artists/record companies take note - it should always be done this way, especially with the premium prices that get charged for vinyl). I haven't opened the CD yet.

The word "Classic" seems to get tied onto any old tat these days :eyebrows:
If you mentioned VH1 or 1984 then I'd agree with you, but 5150 is not classic and it doesn't hold a light up to the other two mentioned in this sentence.

Am I the only one who loves the Lloyds Bank advert music?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6eZ3WQCjhA

It's from Birdy - Fire Within (2013)... just ordered it...

http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/a450/ninanina2/Birdy.jpg (http://s1036.photobucket.com/user/ninanina2/media/Birdy.jpg.html)

Yeah it piqued my interest too, I found the album version not quite as "pretty" as it appears to use more electric than the advert which seems to be acoustic only.

I like the new Jeep advert too, although I have not researched that yet.

Daft Punk: Random Access Memories - lots of fun this one although it does drag on a little bit too long for me, not being a massive fan of synthesisers.

Mazzy Star: So Tonight That I Might See - recommended to me. This what we used to call 'chill out' music back in the day. Lovely production, very atmospheric. great if you are in the mood for that sort of thing.

Rage Against the Machine: Eponymous Debut - been meaning to buy this since it came out, a recent post reminded me. . Classic take-no-prisoners rock/hip-hop is this.

I've just picked up Tull's A Passion Play - An Extended Performance. I really like Steven Wilson's remixes of the Tull albums that he's done so far. I bought this one specifically for the Chateau d'Herouville tapes. I already had Nightcap but wanted the extra bits and pieces that are included on this edition. I've long enjoyed the Chateau d'Isaster tapes going back to the 20th Anniversary box-set, which I still have on vinyl.

Great remix. The original wasn't bad at all, but the Wilson remix is excellent. The surprise was the extra minute and half or so in Magnu and the ending of the Demented Man/King. I've never bothered with these big sets but I did buy this one; my favourite of their studio albums.

last purchase was a Yehudi Menuhin complete Bach sonatas and partitas for solo violin. A double CD that arrived from eBay in practically as new condition for £1.67.

I'm really not sure how they do it/why they bother. Before that I had another Menuhin Bach double CD for £1.70 and before that Murray Perahia's Goldberg Variations for £1.20. All delivered prices, all in as new condition.

Some amazing bargains to be had on eBay if you look... one way is to do a search on CD, then list lowest price or nearest ending.

I just ordered Skid Row, first album of the same name. A lot of great Hair Metal on that one! I’m learning to play Little Sister, great lyrics there!

My son in law brought over some Nora Jones to hear on my system , I was most impressed! While the instrumentation was very basic, and well recorded, her vocals were outstanding! Very laid back, relaxing music. Quite the opposite of the Skid Row

UFO "Obsession" 1999 (Classic Rock series) version.

I needed to in order to compensate for getting the 2016 (same as the 2008) remaster on a whim a few weeks ago, which is bizarrely boosted at the top end. Schenker's fabulous solos combined with the cymbals render it distractingly tinny. Seems like another example where a remaster is effectively a remix.

Thankfully the 1999 version is much closer to the vinyl mix, warm and well balanced. It's back to being a fine album now !

Nitin Sawhney - Live at Ronnie Scott's... quite pleased with this album....

I was listening to first few tracks at my desk in work today and I know its going to grow on me - I'm pleased.
The wonders of Amazon mean that whilst I wait for the CD to be delivered, I had access to a lowfi autorip to listen to today via my iPhone. I am still impressed by such things, things that millennials just seem to take in their stride.

Lots of Robert Plant:

Fate Of Nations
The Principle Of Moments
Manic Nirvana
Now And Zen (great album title!)

Also

Pat Metheney And Lyle Mays - As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls (another great title)

Count Basie (16 instrumentals)

Stan Kenton (The Legendary Big Bands)

The last two were only a quid each. Although some may say I overpaid for the Stan Kenton...

some more master tapes arrive

https://i.ibb.co/V21BrNP/cd.jpg (https://ibb.co/dGTK1cz)

The 'Stones and the Curtis are original issues from the 1980s. The ZZ Top is the 2004 re-master, couldn't find an original, but according to the DR Database it is only slightly more compressed than the first issue.

All dirt cheap, it's a golden age for the CD aficionado.

The Curtis still has the old shrink-wrap on it, never been played.

Nice selection, apart from the Oasis - If I saw that in a skip I'd leave it there.

Whenever I go to car boot sales I'm always seeing CDs which I would buy if I didn't already have them. If you drew up a CD 'wish list' I'll look out for you - I already do this for a mate.

Most of the CDs I buy these days are found in charity shops for 25p or 50p. Because of its diverse population, a lot of the CDs for sale in the charity shops in London are new to me; and at that price I can afford to take a punt. Success rate is about 85%; with those that I don't like being taken to another charity shop.

The CDs on offer in boot sales are usually of no interest to me, or if sold by traders are overpriced and sometimes are in poor condition.

Yes, you do seem to do well at charity shops, but up here there is a real dearth of anything to interest me. Though I know your tastes are more varied than mine, and you may well come away from the same shops with a decent haul.

i generally do ok at car boots, and don't mind paying a bit more (never more than £1) for something I want. You can spot traders' stock a mile off - they clearly sit out there every week in all weathers and look like they've been fished out of the canal.

My last CD purchase: three Tracy Chapman albums. My next CD purchase (arriving tomorrow): three 808 State albums - talk about variety!

I'm going to have to be more discerning with my purchases in future though, I only have about 700, but that's close to the limit of my wall shelving, and I'm too lazy to put up more. So it'll be one out, one in :)

Once I hit about 1,000, I started throwing away the jewel cases, and filed them all in plastic slip cases with the booklet, the back notes are all filed in boxes in the loft. Think I got to about 5,000 before I pretty much stopped buying CDs “blind”. All ripped to FLAC now, playing a CD is almost as nostalgic as vinyl now!
