- those are almost all actual photos of what i will be receiving.
the seller is an experienced TT shipper, and further, he is located right here
in OREGON, so any worries about TT shipping should not apply at all here.

i should have this baby by early next week, i imagine. stay tuned...

Looks in nice condition, I have PL-12D and PL-512 Pioneer decks, they are very good, and reliable.

A very attractive deck, my dad had a PL-512 for many years with a Shure ME75 ED cartridge, incredibly reliable and well made.

Mine has the Shure M75ED in it too. Even the drive belt is still OK after all these years, same for the PL12D

I think the PL12D coped better sonically with an M75-ED, but I suspect the 112D will be better with more modern cartridges tracking at 1.5 to 2g.

Good luck. Depending on the stylus fitted, the Pickering should happily take an "VE" or even "TE" stylus..

i've heard some really good things about the PICKERING cart,
enough to suspect that it'll be a magnitude of order better than my existing
ADC VLM MK-II with it's two identical styli.

i'm hoping the PICKERINGs' styli will be healthy.
i'm no expert, but it appears to be just fine, judging from that MACRO photo above...

In a better deck, the VLM is certainly the more refined and "delicate" sounding cartridge (I own lots of XLM's and my new VLM went to Alex_UK with the Techie a couple of years back), BUT, in the 112D, the sound may well be a bit smothered by the turntable itself, with a boring and bland presentation. The Pickering XV's with elliptical styli are the opposite in my opinion, lively and crisp but a bit too wiry into a better deck - IMO.

May well be worth getting a cheap techie headshell (clones are available for well under a tenner on our favourite auction site) for the ADC as these may well be better for this cartridge than the chunkier Pioneer shell.

and compare the two carts on the fly...

I had a couple of PL-112Ds. The PL-12D is my preferred choice, but if you just want something simple that's reliable then 112 is OK. (a Connoisseur, Goldring or Thorens will run circles round them though)

Finding ADCs is becoming harder these days, why not be adventurous and bung a Denon DL-110 high output MC cartridge in which will work into your MM input, at least the arm has enough mass for it to work nicely and its not a fussy cartridge anyway and it has a nice open, lively sound to it. Its reasonably priced and you'd find a good second hand one for around £50. So much better than the dull M75 series Shures.
