Lots of them out there :rolleyes: I caught one casing my house years ago, must admit it was funny when I stuck my face in his through the window :eyebrows:

However, today made me wonder how often this really goes on? :scratch:

I had booked an eye test for 3:15PM in the city so I thought I'd give myself plenty of time to get down the post office to send a letter recorded delivery & get to the bus stop...

So there I was in the living room joined to the kitchen, looking out of the window when someone came walking through the gate (I happened to be looking out of the window at the time)... This guy came up to the front door & then bent down & lifted this half brick that I use to hold down things like electricity reading cards... He then started lifting up foliage of plants near to the half brick... :scratch:

At this point I pulled back the net curtain (Alex is on a roll :eyebrows:) & pounded on the window. Matey turned round & saw me looking out, at which point I shouted FU*K OFF..

There was a rapid exit, he bounded over the gate & ran down the road like a bat out of hell :lolsign:

Having thought about it I reckon the guy was looking for a key to rob the place. As I live on my own I don't need to leave a key outside anywhere as I'll always have it on me.

Makes me wonder how many times things like this happen that I just don't catch! :scratch:

sounds well iffy to me mark, maybe you ought to invest in some kind of cctv or alarm? it's much like that where I live, right by the entrance to an unlit and ungated park. i've got cctv and alarm, and just for good measure, i keep an old table leg with a 6 inch nail driven through it right by the door. just in case of any unwelcome visitiors, like my local tory mp, lol ;)

Exactly... I mean I cannot imagine I have been lucky enough to catch two people on totally seperate occasions attempting to rob the place ;)

There must be more, I just haven't seen them :rolleyes: Admittedly the dickhead today appeared to be looking for a key, well that's the conclusion I came to at any rate ;) But the intention is there...

By the way I have a few golf irons kicking about :lol: Bring it on stupid is all I can say :cool:

Where I used to live there were a couple of takeaways, two off lisences, a co-op and a pub. Obviously this meant pissed up idiots at all hours though I never experienced any real trouble. Now I live out of the way in a village with one shop, no pub and no hassle, so glad I made the move.

Oh, as we use wood in the fire, I happen to have a nice axe and a handy hatchet lying around...

Hi Steve, yes that can work ;) But a good friend that I used to live with in the same cottage in a village had all his hifi kit stolen along with all his records etc :rolleyes:

E2A:- I think what I'm attempting to point out here is that if you happen to see someone looking your place over with a mind to burgle it then it's happening far more in reality than you are actually seeing. I mean I can't be that lucky that I happen to have stumbled on just the two when they were looking the place over :scratch:

Hi Mark. There have been no incidences reported in the last ten years in the village re burgalry, but there have been cases in farms not too far away where farm machinery has been taken. All the farmers around here have at least one 12 bore for 'pest control' so the theives are taking a risk..

Yes the picture thing did occur to me afterwards, I have a good camera, but it wasn't to hand.

Besides which these situations are not predictable & spur of the moment things happen, like me hammering on the window & dick for brains jumping the gate.

I have a strange talent (don't laugh) to be able to imitate a dog rather well. I can even imitate different models of pooch.

When I don't want to answer the door (usually canvassers) I sometimes run into it hard barking madly. Rarely do they hang around.

Its a bit mental but it makes me laugh...:lol::lol::lol:

A empty burglar alarm case or CCTV camera box mounted up beyond reach on a wall seem to be popular tricks if you are in a busy area Mark. They will certainly deter passing chancers, as do Beware of the Dog signs on the front gate.
Webcam and movement detection software seem to be fairly popular in some countries, as do AK47's.....

As they say, it's a case of making your house harder and less worthwhile to them than others in the area. You can't beat a bright yellow alarm box on the side of the house. I always set mine, even if I'm just popping down to the shop.

Absolutely superb, it sends me motion detect e-mail with photos as attachments and I can look at my music room live at any time, even from my phone. If any tosser does gain entry I'll have plenty of photos for the police, even in darkness. Gives me a little extra peace of mind.

I've been think about cctv myself, i have a lot of vintage engines and bits and bobs lying around at home, not much in scrap but worth a lot for what they are, i've already had a few bits of metal knicked off the driveway

I have also just discovered that the pikey type thieving scum have knicked 4 stainless steel steel slides and 4 stainless mirror panels from my yard, all about 12 ft long and worth about £300 in scrap but would cost about 6 grand to replace new, i keep them for projects to save the councils money, i hate to think what i would do if i caught them:steam:

If the scrap yards only paid into bank accounts and not in cash it would stop a lot of the thieving dead,

I like the idea of CCTV for my front and back doors. I will investigate further.
