Hey all,

Stumbled across this forum recently, while doing extensive research on turntables and phono stages and all that lovely analog stuff! :)

My current system is a Rega P3-2000 > Marantz PM7001 (using internal phono) > B&W 601s3

However, I'm currently in the process of getting a Linn LP12 built from scratch from my local dealer. Should have it in a few weeks!

My musical tastes are mostly metal, prog rock/hard rock, ambient. Some of my favorite artists:

Iron Maiden
Metallica
Slayer
Testament
Saxon
Deep Purple
Judas Priest
Pink Floyd
Jethro Tull
Genesis
IQ
Pain Of Salvation
Porcupine Tree
Opeth
Tool
Dream Theater
Mastodon
Queensryche
Rush
King Crimson

etc...

Hi Simon,
A warm welcome to AoS from me.
So, how do you go about getting your dealer to build you an LP12 from scratch then?

Welcome :)

Them were the days when we had deliveries of fifteen LP12's a week and had four people setting them up almost permanently... Hope it's worth the wait ;)

Hi Simon, you'll love the LP12 when you get it. That's a great list of music to play on it...:)

Hello Simon and welcome to AoS. Is your dealer building an LP12 new for you? Which arm and cartridge are you going for?

Hello Simon and welcome to AoS. Is your dealer building an LP12 new for you? Which arm and cartridge are you going for?

Yes, Peter @ Cymbiosis (based in Leicester) is building me an LP12 from scratch. The shop is one of the main Linn dealers and they specialise in the LP12.

As I'm building on a budget, I'll be using my current RB-300 arm and Linn Adikt cart on the LP12. Will upgrade the arm at a later date.

Spec will be:
Afro Plinth (1989 spec, corner braced)
Trampolin 2 Baseboard
Latest Linn Top plate
Hercules II power supply
Latest bearing that was pre-cirkus

Will upgrade in a few months to a Cirkus bearing, then new arm and cart a few weeks after that and then external power supply (Not sure what to yet, might try the MOSE/Herc combo). Most of the parts are 2nd hand (except the Tramp2 and a few other bits) but all in top shape and hand picked by myself when I visited the shop.

Very much looking forward to picking it up and playing some records on it!

I think you'll hear a massive jump in performance when you put the external power supply on it.

Yeah. I was actually going to upgrade arm and cart next but I was advised to get the Cirkus first before changing arm/cart. I'll most likely move to an external PS too before upgrading arm/cart.
