Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

In terms of white, I suspect the standouts will be the Identity Sauvignon Blanc (at £8), Squealing Pig and Lacheteau Sauv Blancs, although the Chardonnay/Pinot Grigio should also be nice (in a different way), and a bit more full-bodied than usual, because of the injection of Chardonnay.

Anyway, let me know how you get on

Have added some to my order, the Chardonnay/Pinot Grigio blend has definitely piqued my interest!

Soz for the delay, mate. Just been busy...

Okies, you should DEFO give this a go, as the grape variety is superb (normally used to partly make up French claret), but with the warmer Italian climate, it should really be a stonker (perhaps for your birthday celebration):

    https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...nc-la-tunella/

This is also superb value and liable to be lovely (if you enjoy claret): https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...-mayne-graves/

French 'regionals' (good ones like this) always offer value for money, so this should be nice (smooth and fruity): https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...ux-de-peyriac/

This should also be gorgeous and a style not often seen in UK wine outlets: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...cilia-beretta/

This also looks to be excellent value, and should be a good 'glugger': https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...granacha-2017/

Portuguese reds are also seriously underrated ans this looks like a good one: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...capalha-tinto/

However, if you're willing to splash out, this should blow your mind, especially if you haven't enjoyed Pomerol before: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...gazin-pomerol/

Should be an absolute STUNNER, especially with a nice steak!

However, the Cabernet Franc I recommended first should get you 80% of the way there, for considerably less dosh. I guess it just depends how much you want that extra 20% of magic only a top-notch claret can deliver

As for whites, for your good lady:

    This should be good: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...uvignon-blanc/

Don't be put off by the price, as there's a WORLD of difference between Sauv Blancs at this level and those half the price, in terms of a more fruit-forward nature, buttery richness and less stringent acidity.

I'm sure that the Pinot Grigio would also be very nice, as the owner of the shop, clearly knows his wines and likes to source them (rather selectively) from small, good quality vineyards: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...io-grigo-luna/

And if you fancy a slightly 'left field' choice, to rival a good Chablis (touching on Puligny Montrachet territory), this should be a stonker: https://www.mccaskiebutcher.co.uk/pr...vier-leflaive/

    Hope that helps

When you've seen this post, I'll move it to the wine thread where it belongs.

Tried a couple of your recs Marco -

Drier than I thought it would be with Chardonnay included? Think I prefer just Pinot Grigio. 6/10

Delicious & fruity, really 'jammy' 8/10

Interesting, mate. I wasn't sure how it would go, as I don't think I've tried that combo before, so was a bit of a step into the unknown. Your comments are certainly something I'll bear in mind

Maybe try the Canti, PG only:
