I'd NEVER EVER tow a caravan
It's a fucking horrendous experience, on ALL levels!! First, you've just strapped a huge obstacle onto your car, which it was never designed to take, and which has completely upset every aspect of its handling, and secondly, you have to drive everywhere at 50 fooking miles per hour!!!!
I'd die of BOREDOM within half an hour!

Was how you got a holiday back then if you had a family and didn't want to go to butlins. Wouldn't want to bother with one now but Enjoyed the caravan and the boat hols at time A lot of towing tho but it teaches you a lot. Preferred driving a lorry tbh

It's not all bad with the right pairing you can motor pretty quick. Might have altered the law on speeds now tho. Used to drive a big merc van with an even bigger trailer for a long time too. Was the designated trailer man and lorry man with another few jobs. After a while you lose your love of motoring

Yeah, lorries are cool, or at least some of them are... In terms of caravans, when "back then" are you talking about? I've been going abroad on holiday since the early 70s, either by car or plane, but mostly car - and my parents long before that.
I guess it's a British thing, like Butlins!

We started going abroad probably about then too. Mum tried it and decided that it was for her. Flew tho and hired a car But we kept the caravan especially for the boat. Dad liked fishing hols so we would tow both around.

This is my old nugget, 323CI. Poor old thing is looking very sorry for itself at the moment as I haven't used it for just over a year and it's got a green film over it from being parked under a tree. At the last MOT the main central brake pipe that runs under the tunnel had to be replaced, apparently one of the worst jobs on the E46 models as the gearbox and rear axel have to be dropped out. I'm planning to get it back on the road and to start going out again after I've been housebound for so long, just as long as the MOT isn't too scary.
