Crap Weather for October!

What about the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom?

We've been here before lol, but it's another area where you and I are so different. I need to have a nice cosy fire to snuggle up in front of during the winter months, and also be able to go into any room I use in the house and for it to be nice and warm.

It also helps prevent dampness in the house, as cold rooms encourage it, so I'd have invested in a proper fire in your lounge and heating system as a priority when I moved in, single or not, and long before I spent money on TVs or hi-fi!!

For me, a house has to be cosy/warm and inviting at all times, and if it's not it gets me down.

It's 19C in the living room right now. That's comfortable temperature. Don't like a warm bedroom. Only thing I do in the bedroom is sleep so no need for heating. There's a fan if it gets too hot in the summer though.

No damp problems in this house after 119 years so I'd guess there won't be ever. I doubt that they were heating all the rooms at once back in 1901.

Lol, as I said, we're quite different in that respect. You know I don't like a warm bedroom either, but neither do I like a cold one. Cool is different from cold. It's about striking the right balance, which is comfortable. You want every room in your house, which is used regularly, to be INVITING to enter and stay in, not the opposite.

I don't like walking into any room in the house and finding it chilly, especially when I've become accustomed to the warmth of the main room that's been heated, such as the lounge. Nothing worse than going for a pish, only to be met with a loo that, in comparison, feels like a fridge!

It isn't good for you either. So is that fan heater the only form of heating you've got - what happens in the middle of winter when it can be -10C or below? You're not going to convince me that it stays toasty and warm all day with just quick blast of hot air from that thing?

That's what I pay each month, and that includes items left on 24/7: such as preamps; my electrostatic speakers, as well as fridge and freezer and anything else on 'standby'. The main thermostat is set at 18C for the central heating, and in the less-frequented rooms (spare bedrooms), the individual radiator thermostats are set low.

There is no heating in the kitchen, as it is only used when cooking, which heats up the room.

im not much more.. heating is on when it is below about 21c. up here thats a long time lol. i use a lot more lekky than gas tho. it doesnt cost that much to keep a house warm all time if your insulation is up to scratch

I think ours is about £80 a month. It'd be a LOT more if we didn't have the wood burner. And of course that doesn't include what we spend on logs or smokeless coal, which costs around £40 a month.

Del won't get dressed or undressed in a cold room, so when it's autumn/winter, her 'dressing room' (the spare room, lol) or our bedroom, must be a constant 18C. Same goes for the loo, especially when she's taking a shower.

We've got central heating radiators in the kitchen, but they're rarely used unless we're having folks over for lunch or dinner during the coldest winter months, and the oven isn't being used.

Sometimes, if it's really cold, it's increased to 20C.

currently 23c in my house downstairs.. probably a degree warmer upstairs. just comfy.. good insulation so once up at that it stays fairly warm without the heating being on for long. boiler is a newish and very economic one. water on demand so no tank to keep hot either.
