Indeed to be granted a certificate for an officially certified chronometer, a watch has to keep time to within a minute a month. According to the booklet that came with my watch, the watch will either gain or loose a few seconds a day, depending on its position (that is whether it is laying on its back, or is vertical), so with normal arm movement the two effects will largely cancel over the course of a day.

I don't know about current Rolex watches, but mine is an old model and is not an automatic.

For my own interest as well, I just Googled how well Rolex watches keep time, my Explorer gains a bit just like the rest of them, but we are told losing or gaining 5 seconds a day is way within chronometer guidelines, at that it may gain or lose 35 seconds a week, 2’ 20” per 4 weeks, and around 30 minutes or so over a year.
So if yours does keep to the time you mentioned, you are indeed a very lucky person!

I had a vintage Rolex 9964 a few years ago and I'm pretty sure I remember it being a manual wind movement. They even made a quartz model at one point, the Oysterquartz I think it was called.

Thanks for putting me straight about purely manual wind up Rolex watches!

I have radio controlled clocks all over the house. They are among the best things I have ever bought.
I dont know why they didnt catch on more with watches. I may get another radio controlled watch. If casio hadnt botched up being able to easily fit the battery I would still have one
